  • Demonland changed the title to Marty Hore Re-Signs for 2025

He's our back up interceptor/ 3rd tall if Lever goes down. We had to keep him after delisting Tommo. Good luck Marty, have a big pre season and stay injury free, we may need to call on you next season.

Well we weren't contracting Tomlinson for $500k again or anything near that figure, so it's a decent back up alternative.

He'll end up at the filth Tommo as a DFA.

Have to admire his persistence

Not unhappy with this.... and may surprise

Well done Marty

Good player, hopefully his body holds up and can cover for Lever when injured.

Plays a role, is positive for culture, presumably taking very minimal salary cap space and even if you think he's a list clogger he's only clogging it for one season where the alternative, draft pick 127 or so, would have a minimum two.

In reality, signing him now is part of the planning process for hunting one of the still significant free agents available in 2025.

Also, there's still a real chance he'll take the step to being an AFL-level regular. He's not some useless clutz.

He's depth, he'd know it. I feel like we were waiting on whether we'd get Derksen from GWS. That failed, so we need coverage.

He might get a game or two next season, but it would be if we have multiple injuries I would think.

No point having depth players as injury cover who are always injured themselves. Poor decision.

Wasn't helped this year by injury, wherever he plays he needs consistency to even be in the mix. Hope he has a more settled season next year.

Again injury cursed his year.  He looked okay in the limited games through the year.  He’s depth cover in the backline.  He is versatile and reliable.  Given we grabbed him back into the system at start of 2024, it’s fair enough that he gets another year.  With Tomlinson gone and Adams being a 50/50 prospect still under development, I thought Hore would get one more year.

I'm thrilled with this one. I genuinely believe he is a Best 22 player that's capable of holding his own in a premiership side. I just hope he can have a great preseason, some luck with with injury or specifically lack there of, and secure his opportunity for a spot in the side where he can string multiple games together.

A lot worse players than Marty on the list.

Well said Mrs Hore

Required depth. Good for him as a person too, would've been rough if he got dumped again after one year (in terms of his ability to build a different career outside of footy etc).

good luck to Marty but gee it must have been borderline.

Agree. Hope he can make it, but never feel good about seeing him in the lineup. Way to slow with ball in hand and fumbly at the wrong times!

Good luck Marty!

I was a worst critic but I think you are exaggerating. He is good overhead but just a fraction slow with ball in hand after a mark like JJ used to be.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
