October 18, 2024Oct 18 Good luck to the weid , great bloke Average footballer. One of Taylor's rare missis.
October 18, 2024Oct 18 Still has those highlights in the Geelong final which is a lot more than (I assume) we all on here have!
October 18, 2024Oct 18 Sadly, Sam Weideman just didn't have the aggression and determination to be an AFL forward. He lacked mongrel. Same as Josh Schache. Both were "powder puff princesses" when it came to hardness at the ball. Maybe Collingwood might take a punt getting the Grandson of Murray Weideman over to the Club? Anyway, I know Sam is a "nice bloke" but when it comes to playing as a forward at AFL level you gotta make an impact. The Demons lost patience with him and I guess so did the Bombers now too...

October 18, 2024Oct 18 I remember that Geelong final. He looked the real deal. Wasn't to be unfortunately. Best of luck Sam in the next stage of your life.

October 18, 2024Oct 18 like most i thought 'wow' after that first final against geelong in 2018 he never played a game like that ever again in just his 18th game: 24 disposals (10 contested) - 12 kicks, 12 handballs 7 marks (3 contested) 3 goals straight 4 tackles never came close to those sorts of numbers again

He was immense in that game. I remember him crunch tackling Dangerfield. And yes, best of luck Sam. Wasn't quite to be in the AFL.

Good luck to him for the future.

Congratulations on making it to AFL level football, Sam. And anyone good enough to play for the mighty Red and Blue deserves the highest of praise.
October 18, 2024Oct 18 I'm really disappointed. It's one less thing I can ****can my Bombers mates about.
October 18, 2024Oct 18 Suburban cricketer masquerading as an AFL footballer, unfortunately. He'll undoubtedly be a winner in other aspects of his life going forward. Good luck to him.
October 18, 2024Oct 18 Everyone always focusses on the mongrel like it’s 1985 but to me big Sam had 3 issues: 1. Confidence, you could see it drain from his body. Even with a fresh start at Essendon he looked so much better until the year went on and he struggled again 2. Mobility. This was hurt by the repeated injuries he suffered, even before he was drafted. You have to be able to turn, jump, explode on the lead to beat key defenders these days. Young Weid had a bit of burst but it never developed. 3. Reading of the play. Was never easy in the Melbourne forward line but Sam always seemed a step behind the play to lead up at the ball or to pick the flight of the footy in the air. He wasn’t overtly physical but he was brave in the air and could crash a pack, but so often defenders had done him in before the contest was even occuring. Edited October 18, 2024Oct 18 by DeeSpencer

October 18, 2024Oct 18 Disappointed to hear that, never got a decent go at Essendon, hopefully he gats a run somewhere else.

October 18, 2024Oct 18 Sam. He was one of the nicest young blokes. Always very generous with his time for a chat and a photos with my kids. Honestly he had the talent but like others have said, lacked the sheer aggression to be that contested marking key forward. His kicking was fine then seemed to worsen and his confidence went. Hope he moves on to the next stage in life. Will remain a Demon and we will have the 2018 finals to look back on. Good luck Sam.
