One of the greatest players:  elite talent, humble and fair.

Classy farewell statement.

He will be a much deserved AFL Legend.

Travel well Dusty.

The article above has been amended to include the retirement of Hawkins.

This link is just about Dusty and deservedly so.  dustin-martin-retires-calls-time

My favourite thing about Dusty is that he didn’t have to be dirty or disadvantage his opponent, he just beat them as honestly as you can, every time.

Perhaps the greatest big game player of all time.  Congratulations on an amazing career. Loved watching him turn it on.

Legend player. up there with the greats

3 norm smiths. that will never be matched. definition of a big game player

and he may as well trademark the fend off

One of the greats and a privilege to have witness during this era.

His performance in finals and especially grand finals was ridiculous.

True legend of the game.

It's been an absolute pleasure watching this man go about it, the term generational is thrown around too much at the moment but he is someone who has defined his and then some. When you see kids at junior level running around doing the 'don't argue' you see this effect.

Not that I would have begrudged him the chance to head north for a few years, it is rather fitting to see him retire as a one club player. Thanks for everything you've given the game Dusty.

Hope he has got something to do, now that Football is finished…

Yeah you wonder what he'll do. But he may just disappear & enjoy retirement.  Or he could move to NZ

As a matter of interest, who would you prefer to have been at Melbourne for their careers: Buddy Franklin or Dustin Martin?

There's no wrong answer, of course.

I think I would prefer Martin.

Good on you Dusty Martin, another Legend of the game clocking up the magical 300 games, 3 Premierships and if you don’t mind 3 Norm Smith Medals what more can you say.💕

Love that he goes out as a one-club player. Love even more that he keeps to himself and doesn’t voice his opinion on any little matter (cough***** Dangerfield ******* cough)

That's a bit unfair. Dangerfield is President of the AFL Players Association. It's in his remit to have opinions and state them publicly.

Agree with your other comments about Dusty, though.

Although they did bring in a high fend off rule to stop him from disadvantaging his opponent

Great player and career hard not to respect what Dusty achieved on the field

Hopefully he finds life after footy rewarding as he is coming off a pretty high base

Always thought he would follow Dimma north but it appears not

And to think he could have been ours ... Tom Scully, Jack Trengove, Dustin Martin.

Easy in hindsight of course.

Great player.

Perhaps the best combination of toughness and skill i’ve seen

Certainly the best finals player i’ve ever seen

No contest  Martin and Jackson

Buddy can suit himself

Imagine if Richmond managed to offload him when he had all those off field issues…

One of the greatest players, perhaps the best, I’ve ever seen play. The way he tore finals apart was something else.
Absolute champion, the actual definition of one, not the BT definition.

I like players who can "turn" a game with one kick in the right way at the right time.

Dusty rarely got high 20's possesions but they were often worth 30+ in another's hands

.Melbourne mids could take notice ..its not a question of getting cheap possessions ,it's what you can do with the ones you get after you've earned them

I remember seeing him sitting at the draft next to his bikie old man.
There was no way in the world we would have picked him up.
And if we did the media would've given us the WTF cause they had already decided Scully and Trengrove we're going 1 and 2.
And .... Even if we did pick him up we wouldn't have been able to control him and lost him anyway.

When Martin tried to shop himself around and got no takers was the best thig that happened to him IMO.
Decided he was gonna show 'em all.
And did.

Great player.

Can you just imagine.... Martin, Curnow, Trac, Oliver, Gawn, May, JV in the same team.

Good seeing a full blown introvert let his actions do the ‘talking’.

Loved the way he bowed out at the end. What else would you expect.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

The superstar Demon midfielder made a successful return to the fold after his devastating injury last year and the subsequent fallout from the treatment he received, during which time he sought to depart the club. Petracca's professionalism and strong play, both in the midfield and up forward, were outstanding and resulted in him being runner-up in the club's best and fairest count. However, early this week, the club's new CEO, Paul Guerra, confirmed that the under-contract Petracca has again requested a trade, adding that he would only be allowed to leave for a “quality offer that turns our head". No doubt some Demon heads are already spinning.
