Interesting article on AFL.com about the metrics the Eagles use to measure their players, and how it played into them resting Reid this week.

Anyone know any more about how this stuff is measured, and what it means for someone like Windsor? I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s given a rest soon.

Neither have Geelong or Carlton.

When we played Brisbane we were clearly cooked, that's the only win by Geelong you could potentially rate...

So like both of those teams, the only win you could say was impressive by us was Port in Adelaide, but also backing that up off a 5 day break to beat Adelaide in Adelaide was solid too.

Meanwhile, Collingwood played Port in Melbourne, and Port away from Adelaide are half the team they are at Adelaide Oval. Not comparing apples with apples...

I love how some of our supporters think our results are somehow occurring in a vacuum.

Let's see how that compares with the other sides who came into this round with winning records (and prior to the three games so far):

As for the losses, yes, people are upset that we lost to Brisbane who otherwise suck. But Carlton and Sydney have lost to sides with worse W-L records so we're not alone in dropping a game to a weaker side, either.

IMO he is a forward, who while not a ruckman, can play there for short bursts.

However, when played as a ruckman, he is quite good around the ground with his marking.

I watched him closely against the VFL Tigers and several times he didn't even bother contesting when rucking. He appeared to shy away from body contact. His contested marking though was very good and he is mobile.

I pretty much said this last week and got howled down for it. Body contact in ruck contests isn't his thing.

He hasn't got the physical attributes that you want in a second ruckman that can chop out Gawn, especially if he has to go up against the like of Grundy, Briggs, Jackson, Draper, Goldstein who'll just monster him physically. This is why they have trust in JVR because at least he competes hard when he chops out. Similar to how Cam Pederson use to be when Gaqn went down back in 2017.

He's a tall mobile 200cm forward flanker who can push up the ground and perhaps be use as a link up between the two halves using his athletic ability. 

Still think Verrall can still play a role some stage this year as a 2nd hand Similar to how we use Jackson.

He wasn't on his Pat Malone. So many kicks went to oppo players in the clear when we had time to deliver. Windsor across the ground to CHF to a tiger all by himself when Fritsch was expecting a handpass as he streamed towards forward and just before half time in last 40 secs a kick from Fritsch went direction to an oppo player that nearly resulted in a goal. Also Tom McDonald in the centre of the ground that gifted Martin a goal against the run of play. Chandler also had quite a few clangers.

We are an average side, going nowhere. Beaten no one and a  team that would have beaten us by 100 points if they didn't put the cue in the rack just got smashed by the giants.

Reality check time.

Post cats game.

We are an average side, going nowhere. Yes we we won by 4 goals, but the scoreboard flattered us.

And we've still beaten no one.

Sure the cats were unbeaten, but coming into the game their wins were against teams 9th, 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th on the ladder.

And they also had two less days recovery. 

Reality check time next week against the blues, who will smash us.

Their mids will destroy us, and yes we have a good defence but we can't expect them to rescue us every week.

And fair warning, I don't want to hear the predicable excuses trotted out by the pollyannas  about the impact of the five day break.

Yes, first half was a Clanger fest. Not wishing to be naming names, but it was on for young and old. Two of those clangers howlers coming from the most experienced players, resulted in goals. Tigers score was the lowest against Demons since…  . Well Norm Smith was still coaching, but Ronald Dale had recently departed to make his own way in the footy firmament. 

“Forty two points!” if Deep Thought was re-programmed to do appearances on the Sunday Footy Show. Not only would Kane Cornes be out of a job, the Velvet Sledgehammer would be speechless and Damo re-assigned to AUSkick.

So subtract those two gift goals and we would be going back to when Methuselah was an orange boy to find the lowest score.

So despite the ‘G being universally cited as having the ideal dimensions for Australian Rules. Giving players the opportunity to execute their skills in “Space… is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how mindboggingly” bad the foot passing was.
