Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What’s the McAdam situation, is he ever going to play?

Wondering if it’s to do with his professionalism or is he just injury prone

Yep, and Zac Jones wasn't a great loss.

Dawson was the one who got away

Not many good ones leave Syders

Not a good start. Often professionalism and injuries go hand in hand. There are obvious exceptions but most top footballers and athletes have exceptional standards both on and off the field. They leave no stone unturned in preventing injury and also injury management or rehab.
Every team has a list of players who have injuries or are injury prone but do not miss games.

The only way McAdam can put this doubt to rest is by playing a block of games that are not interrupted by injury.

Early days is the key here. His start with the Dees has been no worse than what it was for Steven May.

Adding Hayward alongside Fritsch and Pickett sounds familiar... Gunston, Bruest and Rioli...

The more i think about it, its a waste of time and effort to go after a player that we don't need and would be bottom 4-6 anyway.

We need to go after a-grade talent. For example Sam Taylor goes out-of-contract next year. As the prominent AA FB, he would be an ideal candidate to replace Maysie and keep us relevant for the next decade. Reportedly been offered a 6 year deal at circa 1.3m. Give him 7 years at 1.4. We have the cap space we have the need.

It is trades like this that keep Geelong and Sydney relevant for so long. Would be FA so wouldn't cost us anything on the trade front. We don't have anybody in the up and coming that would compare to him especially if we end up losing Petty.

I did some digging on their other recent outgoing player trades.

Lewis Jetta, Tom Mitchell, Gary Rohan, Nic Newman, Darcy Cameron, Zak Jones, Aliir Aliir, Dylan Stephens.

A lot of those were traded for absolute peanuts in return, too. Dawson for a future end of round 1 pick. Nic Newman for a pick that the Swans didn't even use. Aliir Aliir for pick 34. Darcy Cameron for pick 56 which was then packaged with Zak Jones to get 32.

Ex-Sydney players seems to be a lucrative trade area for the receiving club both in cost-effectiveness and total value.

Sydney might be doing okay from trading Dylan Stephens (plus pick 25) for North's 2024 first round pick. Yikes.

Agreed. With Jason Taylor steadily churning out quality players everywhere except over 193cm, we really need to make that investment.

Fullarton hasn't had a chance yet and I instinctively like him as a prospect, but we can't keep churning through other club's surplus.

Taylor, Weitering and Harris Andrews are all free agents at end of 2025, for what it is worth. ;)

Hayward, Florent, McCluggage, Cumming, Henry all worthy of consideration as free agents.

Do we look at Dev Robertson as midfield depth? Can't get a regular spot in the Lions side and with possible disunity among the group perhaps wants to get out? We liked him in his draft year.

Edit: and of course Max Holmes if there's any chance of landing him.

There is no disunity NOW within the Lions playing group. Whatever occurred is not the real reason for their disappointing form.

Only ONE player has had anywhere near his last years form of the list of 2023.

They like us have had to be mature and both groups are in total unison now.

Dev Robertson had a chance to move back to Perth after 2023 and turned his back. He would not be in our first five mid players to look at recruiting go next year. I watch the Lions each fortnight if not going to the G for the Dees. Very good group of players just lacking a little toughness really. Pity they didn’t beat the Pies last year.

How do you know how Adams will develop this and next year? No club will pay $1.4 mill each year for a Full Back either.

they will in the not too distant future

intercept defenders who play on the #1 tall forward are, arguably, the most valuable players in the modern game

see:

  • harris andrews
  • jacob weitering
  • darcy moore
  • sam taylor
  • steve may

would be amongst the highest paid players at their respective clubs; hell, even esava ratugolea is on significant coin at the pear

it won't be long til the best paid players in the game are on that sort of $1.5m a year mark

Weitering the Melbourne supporter you mean? 😜

I thought he'd recently extended, but happy to hear he could be on the market post 2025. Would be the perfect May replacement and since he gives his bank details away to anyone, he might need the extra cash.

52% career accuracy....just above Florent (who's getting a mention here)  @ 50% and ahead of the specialist small forward Papley @ 47%.  Papley averages 1.6 goals a game.

Do we need another medium forward though?  We have Fritta (1.7 goals a game @ 57% accuracy) & Smacca, who once he gets up to speed appears to be slightly more effective than  Hayward...

Screenshot_20240410_072117_SamsungInternet.jpg.76ca0ff7aeaa322f716df4a10d1f53c5.jpg

We seriously need more mid field class / depth and a KF for 25 and beyond,  assuming Petty's not extending beyond next season and this is BB's last year.

We might also need to replace Maysie if Adams doesn't come on this season.  I'd be seriously considering  Sam Collins for an interim stop gap.  30 yo when he comes out of contract in 25/26.

Just my view but i'd like to see us putting  effort / cap space $$ into these three areas.

Thanks DD.

My worry is Heywood is more of a mark and kick at goal fwd, rather than a ground ball player. Smacca is more dynamic and has different qualities, such as athletic and defensive qualities. Case in point is Kozzie. I’m not against Heywood, just not at a price that is too high. His strength and marking ability would be a  ask us a better team.

I agree more midfield depth and a KPB is a priority

Stats and influence on a game are two different things.

Sorry but where does he fit for us? A mid sized forward isn't an area to be addressed over midfield depth or KPP both back and forward.

Think some of you guys are a little hocked up on goof balls sometimes.

The KP recruiting failures from JT is not actually the case. Can you provide (other than Weid) his failures? Back it up with draft position too.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
