Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

By all accounts Petty wasn’t up to form in the VFL practice game, and BBB did a great job (yes maybe on a NQR opponent) so why in the world make that change, yet ??

My reason is coz Petty is a better player and there isn't room for both of them - no knock on Brown who did his job but he was up against a guy who is inexperienced, 10cm shorter and 15kg lighter....the Petty and JVR combo looked dynamic in the couple of matches we saw it last year so time to keep building that synergy

I was looking for the CBA stats. Which app did you get these on? I could not find anything on the AFL website.

I’m a big fan of Petty and I admit I have not seen the replay of the WB game yet or the Casey practice match but from the reports on Pettys performance you’d have to question if he is ready for a return to AFL footy

The last thing we need to do is rush him back for him to underperform or worse get an injury - I would have thought we use BBB or Fullarton until Petty is actually ready to go

Sparrow had a job on Dale and did a good job curtailing his influence. Just because you can’t see a player execute their role, doesn’t mean they aren’t doing it.

I would keep the same side and give Petty another week. Remembering that we are about to hit a very short break between two Adelaide games and Ben Brown won’t be able to play both. Petty can come in for the Port game and give Ben a rest.

Yes I agree if he's not ready he shouldn't play, up to the coaches and conditioning staff - but Goodwin did say in last nights presser that everything has been building to get him ready for round 2

Thanks

Sicily got a week for kicking out when he was targeted early. That is very soft.

Expect it to be overturned at appeal

I don't.

Not only did he upend a guy, which we know can be dangerous, but when the guy hit the ground, he actually kicked him, not heavily, but nevertheless a kick. That is a big no no.

That is not getting off. 1 week is pretty good I would have thought.

PS: Just re watched it several times. It's not a tap, its a kick and he deserves 1 week for that at least.

Petty in for Brown for mine: time to settle our best forward line in, and while Ben was decent he was playing on a flanker. I think JVR+Petty is our best tall forward setup this season

NO WAY. Petty was almost statless on Saturday

Brown straightened us up and could have had 3 goals. Instrumental player and I still have doubts re Petty's fitness

With their current scenarios, neither Petty of BBB should play 2 games in 5 days.

We may be a bit lucky having BBB this year, if he can play semi regularly.

Tom Mac could also prove to be handy as the year unfolds.

I find the Sicily decision to be quite strange. Kicking a player deliberately is horrendous behaviour and should be penalised strongly. I would have thought if he's guilty, it should be a three week penalty, irrespective of any harm to the recipient. Alternatively, if he didn't connect, I can see an argument that he should get off altogether. Irrespective of my view, I expect Sicily to play next week.

Geez this place bounces wildly back and forth on Sparrow. I said this after the 2021 grand final and I'll say it again now. He's a great role player who has limitations with his disposal but absolutely busts his backside and always cracks in hard.

He had 0 CBAs today so naturally his disposals are down. 6 score involvements is solid work though.

And his effort is all over the tracker sheet. 2nd in sprint distance. 2nd in average speed. 4th in total sprints. 2nd in average speed in attack.

Stop with this madness that he'd get dropped for a kid.

Where did you get these stats from?

We will have to agree to differ then.
Petty cannot have gained one ounce of confidence and would be going into an important game (yes, they are all important) bewildered.  Let’s hope he has a good game next weekend at VFL (unless of course there is another bloody bye) and gets right to take to Adelaide which he can look around and see why he doesn’t want to live there.

I agree. I think Petty and BBB should play one game each in SA. Petty against Port, to give Ben Brown a break after 2 games, and then possibly Ben Brown to replace Petty against Adelaide if he needs extra time for his foot to recover.

Then we will have to backup against Brisbane which will be tough, before a bye.

I think the Lions and Pies may be a bit shell shocked and hopefully that hurts their confidence and creates doubt in their game.

Lions should never have lost to an undermanned and then injury hit Dockers.

Pies would have lost by a lot more, with normal goal kicking accuracy by Swans and some very soft frees to the Pies for goals.

No, according to PF Petty couldn't get a kick playing for Casey, not ready yet

100% agree. Kicking someone purposely is a no no. I think 1 week is fine given the force he did, but if he got let off I'd be pretty annoyed because it's just something that can't be accepted.

I don't think any changes but Petty in is tempting. Play Brown for 1 more week and then bring petty in for Adelaide games.

Give his suitors a good look?

I am amazed.  BB kicked two goals, took a number of marks up the ground, will take the main defender next week, ran all over the place. Clearly fit enough.
our man Petty first game back in a practice match, only on for 3 quarters and had little impact.   Not sure the FD will agree

i do agree JvR and either Petty Brown or TMac need to be settled as our talls

it would be good if Smith came back as well as Oliver has, but that race has been run I think.

When Oliver, Trac and Viney are all having dominant games it's hard for our next midfielder to rack up a lot of disposals. They can't all get it at once!!! Sparrow stays in.

This fascination of change for changes sake (or to appease our curiosity - "the grass is always greener on the otherside of the fence" approach), is not conducive to strong team culture. A strong team culture builds belief and confidence - which is crucial for players to be in form.

Yeah, agree.

We just had a very solid win.

Goody does not change the lineup if we win well.   No changes,

perhaps a small tinkering with the substitution player. And emergency group.

He has in the past. He dropped Tomlinson after a great game and a win.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
