Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Compensation for the loss of Angus

I know some may feel this is too early and it's certainly out of place in the thread about Angus' retirement, but hearing something positve here will give me some relief.  What if anything can the club expect from those %#&#^s at the AFL?

I'd say we'll be getting nothing for Agnus. Unlikely to get much for Angus as well. Maynard should be held responsible but of course wasn't.

If I could fix my typos I would.

Nothing, we were the ones that signed him on a long term deal knowing he could be done at any moment.

Medical retirement should mean Gus is taken care of by the league and not salary cap.

The only other thing we should’ve got / should get is access to a replacement player by the SSP.

It’s crazy to have the deadline last week and Gus announced now. Provision should be made for medical retirements before the first bounce of the season proper.

We should be pressing very very very hard and in a robust fashion for compo

We (wrongly in my view) played the good corp citizen at the time and let the AFL run a wet lettuce prosecution and said nothing in the media, so they owe us

I feel like we may be positioning for this as the media statement is very very clear about this being consequent to the QF knock specifically and not the cumulative effects (noting he’d been ok for 6 years).

I wonder if we might be mentioning potential legal action . That’s what I’d be doing

Not quite sure what you are expecting when you say ‘compensation’ but I would expect we would be able to remove his salary from the salary cap and a spot would be opened up on the list ala long term injury protocol

I suggest Maynard might consider that an unworthy slur. Not so much actionable ,just stupid.

I trust Angus will give us some genuine joy rather than being the basis for some "wanna be's "pathetic retribution.

Sorry what? Why is it unworthy? He has form and was he not on the record about going out to do some damage?

in any case, that’s hardly a slur, especially relative to some of the other disconnected-from-reality comments and behaviour from their fans. Speaking of deplorables…..

Frankly my dear I couldn't give a damn what Maynard thinks about anything. I have a strong view about the reckless intent of that incident. I'm not going to discuss it any further.

If the AFL has created a substitute for game day to compensate a team that loses a player due to concussion, it would seem to me a logical step for the AFL to allow a team to replace a player on its list who is forced into a medical retirement because of concussion. Clubs should not have to be forced to wait to do so until the next available draft period. If nothing else, it puts unnecessary pressure on players contemplating retirement due to concussion who may feel they are leaving their team one short.

That first paragraph is a terrible take. He had gone years without concussion and then was knocked into next year with a huge hit that could have caused brain damage to anyone.

Agree that we should be allowed to sign a replacement player. I’m not sure what other compensation we can reasonably expect.

C'mon, all you legal eagle Demonlanders! Who can Gus and the club sue? Gus is now an invalid from being a player and should be compensated. This has ramifications long beyond his playing career and the retirement was premised on changes already developing in his brain since the big hit.

Can we request Maynard to be dressed in sackcloth and walked through the streets whilst people throw fruit at him and hurl abuse?

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
