Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is a great interview with Koltyn Tholstrup on 6PR in WA. Koltyn spoke very well and wants to play Round 1 2024. Arriving in Melbourne on Saturday and at training on Monday.

Was expecting lots of ‘stoked’ and ‘super excited’ and ‘get around it’ and 18yo kid with a mullet and rude sports sunnies. None of that. Great listen, he sounds like a gem, hoping he can play like one too!

There is a particular wave front at Esperance allegedly famous among surfers, and known as 'the cyclops'.

Between that home town detail and the sunnies and being a bit of a beast, I think we might have a name.

“Kolclops” yes it’s ridiculous but fun to muse over. a nick name.

Yesterday he told me he was “adapting to Melbourne.” (It was cold and drizzling) and I said, “you know how the saying goes: don’t like the weather? Stick around for five minutes.” He laughed and said, “no, it’s not the weather, I like the weather, it’s the time zone difference.” Bless him. 🥹

This is a fallacy that keeps getting trotted out by many supporters. We have not finished in the top 4 this year or last. 2021, 22, 23 = 1st, 5th & 6th respectively.

Do we have to give our double chance back?

But seriously, the final ladder order is the positions at the end of the home and away season, hence this:

https://www.afl.com.au/ladder?Competition=1&Season=52&Round=781

And this:

https://www.afl.com.au/ladder?Competition=1&Season=43&Round=610

So we absolutely finished top 4 in 2022 and 2023.

You might be confusing the ladder with the draft order.

Weirdly, i did quick google but couldn't find much detail on this, but i think I'm right in saying the draft order for the teams that made finals is set post finals.

That’s correct @binman, draft order is set at the end of the season and final placings are confirmed. Premier should notionally hold the final pick of the first round.

Also, would happily give our double chance back to erase the memory of at least one of those finals losses!

I don't think that is correct, the final ladder is after the finals and the draft order and the next year's fixture (groups of six) are based on this.

The Premiers finished first no matter where they were placed at the end of the home and away.

Brisbane finished second, Carlton third, GWS fourth and we finished sixth.

Correct, the draft is based on the ladder after finals have concluded.

So it just depends on how you look at it, we were top 4 after the regular season finished, but finished 6th after finals.

So technically both are right, just depends how you look at it.

We were 2nd after Round 8 too. I think the post finals position is what matters. Sure H&A finishing position is important but only because of its influence on the final position.

Up close the kid looks like he’s got a lot of upside physically once he gets into an elite program.
I was expecting him to be thicker through the hips and legs based off his highlights but he is just a lump of clay.

That’s pretty exciting to think about given he’s already played senior WAFL footy.

I may have phrased incorrectly, I think we’re saying the same thing.

By end of season I was meaning post finals and season in entirety, not h&a season.

Agreed  try going down to Swan Street on a Richmond home gameday and advise them that the Tigers actually finished 3rd in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

JJJ - I hope you mean by 'a lump of clay' that he is ripe for molding, rather than being an inert blob which is how some could misinterpret it 🙄

Definitely the former.

There are plenty of inert blobs when the former players catch up though.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
