Bailey from the Lions is the perfect example of the sort of player and role that the Colt could fill for us.

The alternative is players like Sparrow and Jordon who can play as pure mids when required (eg to give our starting mids a chop out) but don't look natural forwards when resting at half forward flank. 

I suspect Windsor will actually start forward and of course rotating on a wing and will give us some much needed added pace across half forward, especially when Pickett rotates up the ground.

Not sure Tholstrup has Bailey's pace, he's a bit of a different style of forward/mid. One of Tholstrup's advantages is he can probably fill a lot of roles as a forward. He can play closer to goal as a goal kicker, he can chop our talls and compete in the air a bit, he can hit up higher as a lead up mark linking player. As well as develop in to a midfielder in time. I see him a little like the Rivers of the forward line with the way Riv has been used as the 7th defender who can cover various jobs. He'll give good defensive effort but not sure he has the pace to really be similar to Bailey or ANB for that matter.

Sparrow's skills let him down at times across half forward but he's often effective there purely by having the athleticism and size to muck up contests that others who get stuck at half forward are either too slow or too small to be a nuisance. Tholstrup's size, burst and aggression couple with skills to back it up make him a nice match up for certain bigger half backs who have given us trouble in one way or another. No pressure kid but there's a certain Collingwood half back that we need to match with an aggressive big body

    I'd be wrapped if Kolt developed into the dangerous small/med goal kicking forward that we are so lacking atm. I sit at the G with someone who screams every time ANB fumbles and stuffs up an opportunity. It's quite entertaining to watch

    So much better than the interview on SEN with those peanuts Gossage and Cummings who were already trying to plant a biased “go home” seed.

    The kid sounds switched on and very well spoken for his age.

    I would suggest the alternatives are the Spargo and ANB types that can be effective in a specific role but are not forwards, have little forward craft or nous, and are just not dangerous in advanced positions. 

    Resting mids are one thing but @drdrakeis alluding to a bigger issue that has reared it head the last two years where we have relied on too few to take advantage of too many I50s and we just didn’t have the cattle to connect and convert those opportunities. We can now only have ANB in the forward line who isn’t a natural forward and that is a far healthier place to be.

    Some comments from Rookie me show why we picked Koltyn:

    A brilliant creator and finisher, many of Tholstrup’s disposals create opportunities for inside 50 targets, always looking to take the game on with his penetrative kicking. His bullish nature and strong contested work, along with his aggressive kicking decisions lead him to be a handy pinch hitter in the midfield as well.

    Not enough of our mids though kick goals also. We need Trac to kick 50.10 not 29.34 or similar I guess but Kolt looks as though he will balance the ledger and I suspect that his mate Caleb on the wing may well tip that balance further!!

    A great example of  recruiting for needs not only pace run strength and power BUT goals from both will be expected and plenty we hope.

    Looks a little like Dermott Brereton back in the early eighties.

    If he's half as good as The Kid were onto a winner.

    I remember Brereton was zoned to the Saints like alot of Hawthorn players were down on the Penninsula.

    Didnt Glenferrie switch his family address to a residential unit just outside Saints zone. Literally on the opposite side of the road.

    Probably cost the Saints a flag or two. The eighties were a hot mess.  Almost bankrupted the league.

    You’ll find that would be very much tongue in cheek, well at least from Scotty Cummings.  Our boys played together when the family moved back to Perth in 2022 and they speak fondly of Melbourne.

    They loved their time there and love getting back over there.

    I might be late to the table with these comments but I definitely see a striking similarity between Koltyn and one of the all time great Demons of the past in Alan Jakovich : Size, shape, mullet, goal kicking celebrations, and cockiness.

    We can only hope and pray that we’ve landed  another potential superstar

    Whilst i would agree Nibbla is not a natural goal kicking forward it's bit of a stretch to say he has 'little forward craft or nous' and is 'just not dangerous in advanced positions'.

    After all, Nibbla:

    • kicked 19.11 for the season 
    • had 14 goal assists - the fifth most behind Tracc, Kozzie, Chandler and Viney (of the permanent forwards only Koz and chandler had more more with 23 and 15)
    • had 112 score involvements - the fourth most behind Tracc, Kozzie and Viney (of the permanent forwards only Koz had more more with 135)

    It's worth noting that as a high half forward he gets less opportunities to score goals than players like Chandler and Koz who operate closer to goal, so they are pretty good offensive numbers.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
