Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

That’s because the player is usually playing for their next contract, and it’s often a big one. There is motivation.

In BBrown and TMacs case, neither will be getting another contract at their age with their injury history.

Browns knee is stuffed. He’s been managing it for years, but it’s at the point where it doesn’t seem it can be managed effectively anymore.  TMac has played 1 full season in the last 6 years, and even that was off limited preseason due to injury. His foot’s stuffed. We’d be negligent to offer either a new contract. We need to find other tall forward options in a hurry.

Im not arguing with anything you're saying.

The art of coaching is getting the most out of the players, Im not making any predicitons, I'm simply saying hopefully we can get lucky and get somehting out of one of these two next year.

I am not going to make assumptions on their personal positions.

Im going with glass half full, you seem to be more of a pessimist?

Tmacs body has been breaking down since he hurt his back midway 2021. He's had several issues with his ankle and a number of surgeries on it. It's plain and clear that this is now affecting him as he can barely turn or break out into a gallop. It was embarrassing watching him in both finals.

Brown knees are just simply cooked. There's no further explanation needed.

Thanks for the injury update. I agree with the fact they are old and injured so we are unlikely to get much out of them, but i am not going to cry about it and shoot anyone down who disagrees with me.

They have an offseason to get their bodies right and find some form. I'd take anything over nothing.

Pardon my ignorance but if we are able to retire one or both of BBB and TMac my understanding is that their salaries for 2024 are still part of our TPP.

Unless negotiated otherwise, that is correct.

Wasn't arguing or having a dig. Apologies if it felt that way! Was more stating why I think they're both cooked and we need replacements asap.

I’m not sure to what extent you can negotiate. If the last year of TMac’s contract is for $700k and he accepts a payout of $500k, which figure counts in the TPP. I’d think it’s the former.

There can be clauses in contracts around injury management, amount of matches played, negotiating payouts at less than full contract amount (AFL need to sign off) etc. There's options, but it remains to be seen how the club will handle it. We could just keep trying to get them up again next year, but it leaves us two list spots down and seriously undermanned for tall forward depth.

I had hoped at the start of this season that we could manage both of them well enough to give us the equivalent of one fit forward. Unfortunately neither of their bodies held up and it proved to be very costly for us.
If we go into next season needing to get a good return of games out of them then our season is already starting to look like them- cooked.
At best I think Tmac might be able to come in and play 5/6 games when we are stuck.
Considering Grundy will be gone and Pig has retired we will have cap space and unless we are bringing in a gun that we haven’t heard about perhaps we are happy just to let them see out the last year of their contracts. No need to push them out the door if we are not spending the money on somebody else. Both have been great servants to the club.

T Macs field kicking is horrendous and why he was moved away from down back in the 1st place.

That's  5/6 years ago. And is over reacted to. He is abetted kick now anyways amd I also believe defence would be worth a try.

I think it was when he kicked 5 (?) against the Crows (?).  He's a good set shot and has kicked over 160 goals for us - that's a pretty good target in the modern era.

Quite enjoying this thread, apart from the dunking on current players, but am thinking about possible inclusions for next season.

Hayden McLean from the Swans could be a useful tall, although Joel Amartey would be a better fit for what we are looking for. I'm wondering if McStay or Cox could be lured away from the Pies, assuming they will have greater cap pressure after the weekend.

Given the way he gets treated by their fans, Silvagni may be open for a fresh start too.

Love them both but hopefully arrangements can be made for both Tom and Ben to finish up. Perhaps not looking that way though with neither making an announcement post the SF loss.

Contracts with Casey plus part time MFC coaching and commitments for sponsored learning/qualifications?

I think that there is an agreed strategy in place between the club and both players dependent upon a number of different and, at present, unknown factors. These factors may include how the players themselves feel after their after season break, the attitude of the football department after the trade and draft, their understanding of the players vision of their future and a prognosis of their potential fitness to face another pre-season.

Brown, I can imagine might want to continue working in football through a coaching stream whereas I would think Tmac might well be looking outside football for a future.

Both know they are close to the end of their footy playing days and both can retire knowing that they have a premiership to look back on.

Good luck to both of them.

I do not pretend to know what will eventuate or have the knowledge to venture an opinion but do have faith in the ability of the club to make the right decisions.

Things went bad in 2019 for Tommy, the only game he looked himself in sure him injure his knee. Didn’t get better in 2020. We tried to dump the salary after that. Played some good games in 2021 but really it was half a good year out of the last 5.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
