I saw this and thought the same. What a jerk.

Is it me or are people really coming out of the woodwork to have a crack at us. I’m not sure I have ever seen this type of attack on a club before. I think about the Cats PF struggles, Sydney and GWS capitulation in GF and even the Doggies with that talented list missing out.

What am I missing here? Why is there so much disdain for our club?

I would say that the club/fans just need to suck it up, we failed. But I'm confident we will be back and victory will be sweet.

So if one of those three shots at goal that hit the post went through the goals, it would have been Carlton that’s fragile.

We lost to Collingwood, one of the premiership favourites, by 7 points and beat them the time before that in mid season. We also beat Brisbane, the other favourite. 

That doesn’t suggest fragility to me.

A general comment reading this entire thread.

My take at least is that I felt we did show backbone throughout the season, consistently.

Goodwin and co had to go back to the well numerous times to reinvent the forwardline due to injuries.

Outcomes are not a measure effort, or 'backbone' - but we are indoctrinated into a belief that those that work the hardest get the rewards. And outcomes are never guaranteed, doesnt mean its not painful though

In today's world of click-bait headlines and sound-byte journalism, our society, more than ever, thrives on the binary. It's a win-or-lose mentality, and nowhere is this more evident than in the world of AFL media. Too often, the media, in its pursuit for engagement, adopts an exceedingly simplistic approach to analyzing the complex dynamics of the game.

A team's performance on any given day is boiled down to mere outcomes – victory or defeat, heroics or blunders. The multifaceted nature of preparation, team dynamics, strategy, individual performances, and sheer unpredictability of the game often get lost in this binary view.

If a team wins, every decision leading up to that moment was right; if they lose, every choice was wrong. Players are lauded as invincible heroes one week, only to be derided athe next. There's little room for nuance.

Equating outcomes directly with success or failure is a dangerous misstep. I'll contrast it with parenting.. (not sure why, but it makes sense to me)

Imagine for a moment if parents adopted the same black-and-white thinking with their children as the AFL media does with the Dees (or whoever) If a child came home with a failed math test, would a supportive parent label them a failure outright? Or would they try to understand what went wrong, provide guidance, and encourage effort and improvement?

They face challenges, setbacks, and triumphs. A parent knows that defining a child's worth or potential based on one test or one moment is not only unfair but damaging. They understand that resilience, effort, perseverance, and learning  😀 are more critical indicators of long-term success than any single outcome. Of course this approach 'doesnt sell papers'.

As a society, we'd never tolerate such behavior towards children (humans???),  so I'd invite you to take a step back when reading things that are not nuanced and are black and white.

If you are feeling inflamed by Campbell (or whomever, at any given point in time) - just remember. You are the product.

Our last 4 finals results does suggest mental fragility IMO. The only way to stop it is by playing better football next September.

The club stuffed up two years in a row and now they have to cop a fair whack. I do conceed we seem to cop more of it than other clubs do however.

Other than Barry Hall and May out of season, all those blokes he hit weren’t really tough guys.

Let’s be honest we are a soft target. Right now we deserve the criticism that is coming our way. We are also a very “nice club” that doesn’t like to rock the boat which also makes us an easy target. I would like for us to as a club openly stand up for ourselves and fly the flag a bit more than we do whether it be umpiring, tribunal decisions, facility funding. But honestly supporters getting precious or offended by people in the media criticising our Demons or Gary Lyon not sticking up for the club instead of calling them out is symptomatic of our soft underbelly. Honestly who gives a [censored] about the outside noise. It’s up to is as a club to change the narrative.

I don't recall anyone calling The Cats pathetic for the virus excuse, in fact they made that the narrative. 

The club does need to take stock though. Attitude can slip easily and while I doubt what Ralph reported was accurate it does make me wonder what was actually said.

Demonland is very fragile at the moment. Getting all worked over commentary in the media. It's just noise mainly. Some fair criticism for sure but nothing the club is not already aware internally.

Not worried by this. His comments are glib, superficial and easy.

When any club is knocked out in consecutive finals they are fair game for "tough talk".

There's no nuance, no grey area allowed.

We here can note playing a man short, losing incredibly narrowly both times with a team that was already diminished by injury, rotten umpiring...dozens of small things that would have had us win, not lose against Carlton. That's all we need to know. Campbell Brown is  bit of a donkey. Care factor: zero.

This kind of ‘pile on’ was always coming once we went out is straight sets the way we did.
