From what I have observed over the past two seasons, our team seems to be playing under a heavy burden: there’s not a lot of ‘lightness’ around the place. I wonder if the culture agenda has been over-thought at the expense of players simply enjoying footy under a good system, as in 2021.

I don’t hold out great hope for 2024 - I think the Clarry situation will not easily be resolved, in terms of him being back to his previous best. I know we’re not supposed to mention the war, but I think what’s needed for 2024 is a united team, playing with a bit of freedom.

While I respect what you have written I font like the nature now that you can’t reveal what the actions are.

If it’s Maysie at the BAndF and this debate has continued I don’t have an issue with that. I believe speaking the hard truths is the only way to resolve some issues. Perhaps the public nature doesn’t sit with everyone but really by next season ( actually pre season commences) the Club will have discussed all the issues and a way forward implemented.

More  likely you are referring to a star player and his situation snd as it has been requested that privacy be given you are like me bound to refrain from further comment. It is ongoing so here’s hoping about its income being positive.

I have faith in the Club handling it despite your concern. Some events have been prior to recent and can’t be loaded into todays fish and chip wrappers comments.

I fully expect a 2021 attitude will be back starting from our training blocks in late November. Nothing less will be required for us to climb the mountain again successfully.

58er, not Maysie. The last sentence may be more of a clarifier.

Whilst Oliver and Smith need to really grow up, the club should immediately tackle a particular player who I understand has negatively impacted the culture of the club. I know that's 'Big Footy Scandals' speak, but that's my understanding and I'm conscious of what can and cannot be said on Demonland. The last three weeks have been a car crash.

Could not agree more @3183 Dee. The boys to me don’t seem to be enjoying what they are doing when out on the footy field. Whatever happened to simply having fun?

Our ‘systems’ are so rigid, it allows for little enjoyment. It was quite noticeable to me this year, almost as if the fear of losing was greater than the motivation of winning.

I'd like petrol prices under $2 a litre, a Hella Mega Tour announcement, and probably to lose a few more kgs.

Oh I'd also like Ryley Sanders and James Leake as our picks for 6 & 11. Mick Stinear to play a role with our men's team, and Mick Warner and Mark Robinson to be sued by Goodwin after we win the flag.

... I'm not fussy.

I don’t think the car crash reference means anything. I think RtG is saying it’s something that’s happened in the last three weeks, which explains why it’s not about Maysie.

Ha, ha, time to take if the beer Goggles. Last two years it is pretty obvious.

what, you mean when he's not been injured he's been - by some margin - the best ruckman in the game and a captain of a side that's been in the top four pretty much the entire time, and a universally admired and respected part of aflm by internal, opposition, and media?

Viney showed more leadership this year than Gawn. He has had his run, him a Goodwin have let the ship drift. That is my opinion, this is a forum, so stuff it up your rear end soon shine.

1) Goal kicking accuracy in the crunch games. It's all well and good to kick 22.7 against North or 19.12 against West Coast in low pressure early season games, but when the heat's on we were found wanting in this area. Badly.

The only finalists that got away with inaccuracy were GWS in the semi and Collingwood in the GF but they had midfielders and forwards that kicked the clutch goals that we could not in our finals.

2) Midfield accountability. Two games we lost directly because the oppo's star midfielder took direct control of a game of footy. One of them was the 3 point Port loss in round 10 where Butters had 41 touches and 2 goals in driving wet. The other was the Carlton 2 point semi loss where Walsh had 34 touches and 2 goals (insane stats for a high stakes final) including allowing him to kick a goal within the first minute of the last quarter which erased out third quarter ascendancy. If neither of these events occur, we win these games due to the close nature of them

Beat Port and we finish second. Or failing that, beat Carlton and we're off to Brisbane. So very costly.

I'm sure there is a shopping list of other items we need for next year, but these two stick out for me.

Max will be 32 next year and playing solo ruck, it’s not exactly ground breaking to say he’s now at an age where his main focus should be individual performance. Hopefully he’s dealing with a new born and another kid too.

Viney, Tracc and Lever are the guys who are in the right age range to be captain.

It’s not unreasonable to suggest one or more of those guys should take over the title whilst Max stays as a vital leader in certain ways.

Agreed on the captaincy. Max is contracted through 2025 and himself said he can't see himself playing beyond this contract. That means he's got two seasons left and will be 34/35 when he retires. It's reasonable to assume he hands off captaincy soon.

Lever is our most rounded leader and has been for years. He's the general, an on field coach, a vocal leader at training also setting standards, handles off field and media well. Personally I'd make him captain with Max or Viney vice.

I’ll be interested, also, to see how the coaching change (Yze 🔁 McQualter) will affect things.

This coaching change is the biggest watch for me. Our midfield has elite top end talent, but hasn't maximised it the past two years. A fresh voice and mind to structure ours mids differently could push us back into a dominant team. We lost our centre stoppage impact this year, but more importantly we actually got beat up there defensively. Seeing Carlton late in the season pile on 3 quick centre bounce goals against us when the game was on the line was heartbreaking. The ball movement through the midfield needs a refresh too, so McQualter could be our biggest trump card this coming season.

Agree with Lever. Would actually be a shock if he isn't our next captain

He's the media's go to man and represents our club in impressive fashion on and off field.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
