“Someone like Saad or Hunt who can play on after a turnover and get a counterattack going”.

I recall someone called Hunt used to play with the Dees. He had decent run and rebound off half back.  Oh well we have Salo, Riv, Bowsa so I think the cattle are there to rebound just “need the courage to use the farknnnn corridor more”. ie not slow and wide.

Reckon you could add McVee and Disco to that list.

2024

where are the improvements

+ Oliver back for a full season

+ Petty JVR development as key forwards

+ Howes + Woey + AMW + Daniel Turner all to push for senior footy

+ add in McAdam + Fullerton

+ 3-4 young draft picks

You missed Salem having a full preseason and no thyroid issues!

We haven’t - unless we are able to watch Casey regularly - had an opportunity to say if Disco is a dasher or not.  What do regular Casey pundits think?

I agree 100% re Judd though.

Surely given all the kerfuffle that is going on in recent days, we need an in depth period of self reflection, and recommitment.

Who amongst you is genuinely serious about getting the best out of yourself and from the team as a whole?  Not who would like to, but who really wants to?

Who is prepared to make sacrifices - personal, recreational, physical - for team success?

There seems to be far too much self indulgence at least in some  - I probably sound like a cranky old bugger (which I am) but if you are not prepared to go all in full time maybe you should look elsewhere or get another job?

Yep.

Feels like a massive slap in the face to supporters when we fork over our hard earned and just want the players to do their absolute best and yet they're getting on the gear before a game, drinking their own bathwater and pretty much doing whatever they can NOT to make us proud of supporting them.

I exclude the womens team from this.

The club should just go into the season completely forgetting 2021. Start fresh, forget the straight set loses. Just pure belief and hunger again.

Sounds like a cunning plan.

When the coaching team are back on deck I imagine there will be a bit of a competitive edge to the group with the inclusion of Andrew McQualter.  The playing group will also be a bit shaken by what has occurred at the club over the break and the injection of 6 new players, half of whom are senior will also shake the group up. This is a perfect environment to drive some critical changes within the group and get them refocused on the ultimate goal, continued success and a Premiership on our home ground at the G in front of 100,000 people.

Some luck for a change. A full strength dees team is very hard to beat anywhere. We almost beat Colingwood in QF with a VFL fwd line. Imagine if Melks Petty and Brayshaw were there.

Ive done well avoiding 90% of the footy media since GF day.

Got caught recently when some smerk faced [censored] talking with Garry Lyon said Pies are a great side better than Melbourne . Sickening vomitious stuff. Lyon replied yes Dees are a better side then corrected himself and said Pies are.

Bulltish.... Lyon did it on purpose. Good delivery too.

That’s a bit  rich and not in line with the real situation. Unless you have reliable info on each player you are only putting 5 and 6 and coming up with 15.

The AFLW team are in our 2021 spot and last night was a revelation on their competitive ness plus team ethos. North tried hard but we matched any thing they threw at us.

We don't appear to need much honing defensively but the delivery into the fwds from the running half backs, wingers and onballers has been way below average and seems to have contributed markedly to our going out in straight sets again.

Correct. The main 'team' flaw' - forward penetration and maintaining the possession thereof. Our wingers do need to lift and perhaps, take a few marks of their own in the process of two-way movement.

Whats needed. Well as an average fan with no inside info i said to my son. Something is nit right with the midfield . I had no idea what, just that it had something exclusive about it. The fact Dunstan could not get a look in. They said his ball use which appeared no better or worse than those in the group. We now know Oliver was having issues.

Whilst Oliver and Smith need to really grow up, the club should immediately tackle a particular player who I understand has negatively impacted the culture of the club. I know that's 'Big Footy Scandals' speak, but that's my understanding and I'm conscious of what can and cannot be said on Demonland. The last three weeks have been a car crash.

I'm wondering whether on the back of the stuff that's been going on lately, adding in our clear issues when dealing with pressure, we need to invest heavily in sports phycology. I feel like the incidents that have happened are a reflection of players not dealing with stress and frustration in a healthy way, while on field we got found out in pressure situations and inability to execute when needed (ie inaccuracy in front of goal, not entering the forward line with logic and poise, not staying cool under pressure at the end vs Carlton).

These point to issues between the ears instead of issues in on field ability.

That said our forward tactics do need a serious looking at, while having JVR and Petty have as good a pre-season as possible will go a long way towards helping the cause.

While I respect what you have written I font like the nature now that you can’t reveal what the actions are.

If it’s Maysie at the BAndF and this debate has continued I don’t have an issue with that. I believe speaking the hard truths is the only way to resolve some issues. Perhaps the public nature doesn’t sit with everyone but really by next season ( actually pre season commences) the Club will have discussed all the issues and a way forward implemented.

More  likely you are referring to a star player and his situation snd as it has been requested that privacy be given you are like me bound to refrain from further comment. It is ongoing so here’s hoping about its income being positive.

I have faith in the Club handling it despite your concern. Some events have been prior to recent and can’t be loaded into todays fish and chip wrappers comments.

I fully expect a 2021 attitude will be back starting from our training blocks in late November. Nothing less will be required for us to climb the mountain again successfully.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
