very good question. Needs to pass the baton, but to who.

May? Or Lever?

Lucky we selected an impact player as the sub FMD seriously what were they thinking. Bringing Hibberd on in the last could've been a shot in the arm, nah let's go with the softest player since Jack Watts who can't provide fresh legs cos he could only really sub in for TMac who was just as pathetic.

This team are a bunch of chokers, can't win on the big stage. Won off Broadway when we had the crowd numbers because about 30k neutrals jumped on the bandwagon. I am filthy.

Massive choke. I’m disgusted

max tried his heart out. May was magnificent. Rivers did well. Clearance work was good.

but I question some players mentality. Some appalling decision making. And as for skills? Some of our disposal was atrocious.

plenty of heart. Can’t fault that. But I’m tired at looking at huff and puff footy. Take the game on sometimes ffs.

fckn disgusted

May is a fugging legend.

Dropping a retiring Hibberd who smashed Jamie Elliot last game will be a huge blight on this club. Simply why.

Perhaps because his body's shot and he can't get up to play two games in a row.

  • Demonland changed the title to POSTGAME: SF vs Carlton

Umpires definitely swung their way in the last quarter, but we've been the better side 2 weeks in a row and still contrived a loss so. angry and frustrated. Definitely deserve the chokers tag.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.

When Burgess walked out, it wasn't just our fitness but a whole lot of professionalism that left too.

Goodwin is too close to this group. Too much warm fuzzy culture and complete neglect to the forward half.

He has completely coached the attacking nouse, system and instinct out of this team with his stupid squeeze em up strategy. We squeeze ourselves up. We can't transition to save ourselves.

Yep, you win for stupidest post of the year.

On a dry deck FMD 🤦🏻‍♂️

There was a guy with a mop and bucket in the centre square at 3/4 time mopping with water and whatever else in the water. Then two of our players slipped over where he’d been mopping!

Along with recruiting some forwards, we need to recruit a good PSYCHIATRIST to sort out the heads of these guys.

Seriously here are some challenged people on this site...

The team was undermanned and gave it everything...if you can't see that you know nothing.

Signing off for AFL season 2023.

West Coast smashed the 2018 finals series without Nic Nat, Gaff and Sheppard. You can be successful despite a few injuries to the integral part of your best 22.

I sold my soul to the devil for the 21 premiership. It’s my fault. Sorry guys.

Alright who's up next for soul-selling? Any takers!! 🤣

Lots of hyperbole in this thread

Not buying that at all. It's a final and of course he was going to be right.

If that’s true then say he is out “managed” and not “omitted”.

Worth it.

No it wasn’t we couldn’t even bloody go!!!!

God we have some [censored] on this site.

Injuries, umpiring, suspensions, and kicking for goal cost us big time.

you just have position yourself and hope it goes your way when it counts.

it didn’t.

if you people think these guys didn’t give all they have just look at the reaction after the game.

geelong was I this position for ten years between 2011 and 2022.

it really hurts because it felt like we had a massive chance this year - perhaps more than any other in my lifetime (57 years).

just got to get there again next year.

Get some new assistant coaches around goody. We need to freshen things up because we’re as stale as last weeks bread.

And the Dogs won the 2016 flag with half the team out. We weren't short of players we were short of smarts

I’m utterly deflated.

I love this club. I love being at the ground. I love following us week to week. So I hate that we’re not going to be there on prelim final weekend, again, when we should be.

It’s not one issue. Too many things went wrong. Some were in our control - as everyone has said, the TMac/Schache situation was a debacle. TMac was terrible all night, it’s unfathomable that we didn’t sub him. The goal kicking, the ill-discipline, the fumbles, the botched passed. Some were out of our control - the absence of Petty, JVR, Melksham and Brayshaw, the umpiring, Carlton continually kicking crucial shots.

Too much went wrong over the last 6 weeks. So the first 22 weeks of the H&A season is for nought.

Our depth isn’t good enough. Our foot skills aren’t good enough. Our forward half play isn’t good enough.

But at least we give ourselves the chance to compete. I’m sure at some point I’ll reflect on that positively.

They did it in 2018.

They should have done it this year too.

May and Sparrow were huge in the last quarter

Blues knew that if they shut down Fritter our forward line was rooted

Can Tmac please, please retire? Please?

Would love to go back over the past 10 years of post, it is the same story we tried hard but just don't have the foot skills.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
