Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

That is incorrect. Our last 5 games were against Freo, Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong and GWS. Only the last two were wet.

(A) Brisbane R2 humid dewy (loss)

(N) Essendon R5 wet (loss)

(A) Port R10 wet (loss)

(H) Fremantle R11 dry (loss)

(A) Ferals wet R15 (loss)

(Alice) BWS wet R16 (loss)

When our ability to mark is taken away from us 30-40% of our game gets taken away from us.

These weather affected games take away one of our greatest strengths in our marking ability around the ground.

We play the dumbest brand of footy in wet and dewy conditions we treat it like its dry conditions.

Very infuriating to watch.

In: Tomlinson, Oliver, JVR, Woewodin

out: Harmes, Fritsch, Chandler, Grundy/Gawn.

I think we need a few weeks with Petty up forward, Tomlinson down back and only one genuine ruck.
It’ll never happen but I’d like to see it. Brown, Grundy and Gawn all in the same side will never work

Maybe Chandler gets a rest...... ANB seems wedded to Goody. Goody likes his 'efforts' . All very commendable but the game is won on outcomes. Trying alone is inconsequential....achieving is what it's really about..

We tried hard yesterday; ran ourselves ragged doing so. Achieved little.

If ever the maxim " work smarter, not harder' had relevance it must be now.

Dont expect to see Bullen at Casey anytime soon.....unless we're training there.

Are you trying to say ANB has some dirt on Goody.😂

Time for selection committee to review and change, stability needed after the next fortnight. Really not sure about the two rucks, worked well on KB, but decision to be made with them and or 3rd tall forward

JVR, Oliver and one of Woey or Howes to come in. Forward entries and lack of separation with our forwards a clear problem so look for some change.

Consider playing Hunter and/or Bowey more in the forward line

Play Trac forward more, match up issue for opposition and consider rotating him with Pickett

3 talls JVR, Smith/Petty and either Brown or a resting ruck can never play all of this 4 combo inside forward 50 at the same time. Pickett and ANB or Spargo are you other small rotations

B.     Lever May  Salem

HB.  Mcvee Tomo Rivers

C. Langdon Viney  Hunter

HF. Pickett  JVR    Bowey

F. Trac      Petty   Smith

R. Grundy, Oliver, Sparrow

I/C. Woey/Howes, Brayshaw, Gawn, ANB

Sub:Melksham

Brayshaw is part of the back rotation

Woey/Howes rotate with Langdon, Hunter, Bowey

Grundy, rests forward for a tall when Gawn comes on and Gawn plays a kick behind the play and then Grundy has a spell on the bench

ANB plays as a defensive forward while Trac, Pickett do stints on ball with Viney, Oliver, Sparrow rest

Don't mind that at all PSD.  Might even avoid the pockets a bit with "more thinking" minds getting the ball into the hot spot more often.

I still think the idea of the 2 rucks  is ok...but it's not nuanced correctly.  One of Tommy Macs great influentialabilities was/is to be the link forward going in....  he would oftendrag a defender to the side before moving forward ( losing contact ) and marking.,..quite often too far out for a direct shot ( sometimes  though)..His next kick was often toa positionwhere one of our forwards would get 'into".. This straightened us up immensely.. We seem to lack that connection at the moment  but no reason Grundy or Gawn couldnt do likewise. They dont NEED to be the contesting forward.....just get it to them  ( whoever are )

Little point focusing on our elite defence if we are incapable of kicking a winning score. We have been defence centric for way too long now. It does not recognise the potency of our midfield. All very well to say defences win premierships but this is an outdated idea. The reason I keep banging in on about May forward is multifaceted. Sure he is not actually a forward however, more often than not he dominates his opponents. With that knowledge a workable system becomes a realistic choice for those who might operate around him. In action he becomes a reliable foil for the likes of Pickett and friends. It is certainly worth a try as nothing else seems to gel presently. The clear choice for chf is petty as they already work with one another. Tomlinson must be afforded the opportunity to demonstrate if his newfound poise can provide confidence in the back. Why wouldn’t you bring in some young blood to reinvigorate the side.? Turner, Howes et al seem to be making the grade at the lower level…give them a crack! Reward for effort is a central tenet of robust culture. The players know when that is ignored in favour of what appears to be a bizarre nepotism. Something is clearly off here and it’s dragging the whole team down. Goodwin seems to be more interested in saving his own backside by engineering the illusion that just because they occupy a section of the ladder that the body of supporters will be content. The truth is that we have deficiencies on our list maybe even glaring holes, but it’s much better to face them head on and get creative. Changing nothing will lead to same result as last year. And nobody wants that. Be bold Simon.

Agree with Bowser to the F50, Hunter got 30 on the weekend do we want to be messing with his contribution atm?

I really love what Hunter has brought to the team and he’s definitely been giving us a lot more than Langdon has. But of his 30 touches this weekend, I reckon 28 were kicks that went nowhere. He is not damaging like he was earlier in the year.

It’s perhaps too early to put forward a balanced view after what just happened in Alice.  But here it goes. We won just about every stat there is to win except for kicking a winning score so……..perhaps desperately clutching at straws that is a plus so……….I still have some faith that we can turn things around.

BIG game coming up next week! I’ve already bought a ticket. In the coming weeks we will definitely find out if we are contenders or pretenders. GO DEES!!!!!

I don’t think we’re that bad of a team to get any worse atm, I mean our remaining games are at the G as well. We’re obviously not as consistent as the top 3 teams. 4th is still a big chance. We still play lions at G. We matched port and beat Collingwood. Not all is over just yet. The next 4-5 games will definitely tell us.

Doesnt seem to matter a lot to us.... we cant enter the arc with meaning or menace...and cant hit the side of a barn... wet or dry .

We're in a spot of bother.

Lyons lot will expose us..... unless Badloss and coherts do some serious recasting of their runes..

Need to dust off the alternate game. The one we used preseason and glimpsed against the filth.

Time to chuck plan A in the bin. Times up on that rubbish.

It is well overdue - but there is no time like the present.

Until we start converting  this domination we want beat the saints or anyone “, disposal (+70), contested possession (+42), clearance (+19) and inside 50 (+27) counts, while they also had 20 scoring shots to the Giants’ 12

These numbers continue to happen each week & it’s unbelievable how dysfunctional our Fw50 or our ability to how the ball enters! These numbers are winning big finals & flags of which we want on current standards & such a waste!

And just let Kossie play, yes provide tackling pressure but let him play with some freedom and he is one who will benefit from a less congested f50

I think he was guilty of poor delivery like the rest and may benefit from being closer to goal

Agree with you.  We have been very poor in wet conditions and have not adjusted well, especially over-handballing against Geelong.  We have also fumbled more than the opposition and haven't seemed to have handled the ball as well.

My comment was simply in relation to the claim it has been wet in 4 of our last 5 games. It hasn't. We lost to Freo in the dry and were just as inefficient inside 50 and wayward with our goal kicking in dry games against Carlton and Collingwood.

There's no question about our attack on the ball or on any opposition who has the ball. It is. however, hard to reconcile the disparity between our skill levels and those of GWS' on the same field in the same conditions. They were so much cleaner with ball in hand and disposing of the pill.

Everyone in Australia knew that the Alice was going to be under water for about 2 weeks prior to the game. Is this not an opportunity to make selections according to these conditions? Why ffs then BBB, Gawn and Grundy all in the team on such a day? Just how many overhead pack marks were to be expected? Wouldn't we be better served with low centre of gravity players like Dunstan who could help grind out a win? Out - selection committee for remainder of 2023    In - bring in a savvy administrator to make the calls

There's  also the obvious three pillars of Demon weakness to be befuddled by - delivery into the forward line, forward craft in leading and creating space and accuracy shooting for goal. For eg,, would like to see Trac being directed to not have shots but lower his eyes to try and give someone who has an at least 50% strike rate a chance to convert. We do have a few players who can kick straight besides Fritta - eg Bowey, Petty & JVR.......BBB in dry weather when he can take a mark and have a set shot.  We simply are not kicking goals despite way enough opportunity to do so. Too many fwds missing too many opportunities - time to reconfigure?

In - A specialist forward coaching team     Out- Greg Stafford

Extremely poor list and player management cost us a chance at a flag in 2022 (historically dominant Casey season with no reward for those players while the senior team was full of niggles and underdone players) and it looks like history is repeating in 2023.

Not as bad as last year with some exposure to JVR, Smith, Laurie, and Rivers going into the middle. Not enough though.

But now they have added their ‘5th dimensional’ dropping of in form players like Brown in Rd 4 and Tomlinson last week.

This FD needs to refocus on the simple; what is the most straightforward decision to make.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”?
