  1. My ire was raised after the siren of the GWS prelim - Maytard walked around celebrating the win by adopting an uberaggressive body builder closed fisted pose complete with a full baring of the teeth when he crossed paths with some of his mates (ie Cameron) in what appeared to be a well rehearsed gesture. The guy is a moron who seems to have no insight into the legacy he is creating and that the game has moved on ......Do hope the Fitzroy fwds kick an absolute swag on him.
  2. In 1965 I was 7 years old and a rabid Demon's supporter. My grade 1 teacher Jan Dalton and her husband Denis had become family friends and would visit for meals on occasions. One eve in '65 Jan and Denis arrived without a bottle of the usual red but with a brown parcel which was handed to me. Upon opening it I saw a Demons guernsey with the number 5 on the back. Jan said Denis had swapped jumpers post match at the '64 GF but couldn't stand having the red and blue in the house - thought it'd be better off living in a household of D supporters......#5 has always been my fave.
  3. Number 11 Maxy Jimmy Stynes Greg Wells Gary Hardeman (for a season) Legends all
  4. Giv Each to his own but you don't think Peter Thompson had any global impact ( without choking ) ?
  5. Food for thought re the wingers though I felt Hunter was the more effective of the two throughout the season. My thinking is that our back 3 talls have the role of overhead interception, spoiling opposition fwd talls and feeding it off to our attacking half backs and wingers. For mine May,Lever and Tomlinson are the most reliable and effective combination to fulfill the talls function and they have repeatedly delivered. I think we've had some issues with the smaller backs/runners - Hibbo has been on/off injured and now is gone, Salo has been down with both McVie and Bowey being good to serviceable. We don't appear to need much honing defensively but the delivery into the fwds from the running half backs, wingers and onballers has been way below average and seems to have contributed markedly to our going out in straight sets again. It's no good our onballers being great accumulators but not being able to hit a target either whilst on the run or from a mark/free. Surely elite players can train to improve one of the most fundamental skills of the game...I, as Binman noted on the poddie last night, watched the GWS foot skills and delivery into the fwd line and felt insanely jealous. How come our boys can't kick a footy anywhere near like that? New skills coaches who can rectify this and also help the upfielder's connection with fwds be more sophisticated than a Hail Mary bomb would go a long way to sorting out what is a mess. Our fwds - they, alongside their upfield comrades, all need work on snap & set shots. For mine, the fwds who looked the goods in at least one of the finals included Fritta, Smithy, Nibbler and Kossie ( to a lesser extent ). Spargo worked well upfield and kicked more effectively than most Redleggers . It's clear that we need another fwd tall to replace TMac and BBB - be great if that replacement was fit for purpose, ready to go, not TOO old and competitive in the air. Feel that Chandler and maybe Charlie have left the door open for others - Kossie could do with a clear message on playing to his strengths and be made aware that his weekly selection is not a given.
  6. In the COLD light of day I reckon an apology for the manner in which the past 4 finals have transpired from Simon to the supporter base might slightly ease the frustration and disappointment....
  7. 16.28 in two final appearances - thing is it is no surprise as it's part of a pattern that has been evident for 2 seasons. My obs on this: * aren't they highly paid, elite players and therefore reasonably expected to be capable of effectively leading, passing and converting shots as goals ( at least 50% of the time / a 50% conversion would have won us both games) * isn't it the role of the coaching staff to id issues and work with the players to rectify them at rraining? How long have they had to sort this out? Are they able to do their job? The last 5 mins of Blues game was akin to watching a train crash in slow mo.
  8. I'm more concerned with the sanity of the board in extending a coaching contract PRIOR to the finals campaign......
  9. I'm going to be interested as to whether Cripps and Pittonet are tasked with going the heavy in the early stages - try and distract the D's who may be on a short fuse or hypervigilant about protecting each other.
  10. Posted on Maynard thread but more relevant here: I watched and re-watched, then put on continuous repeat for 3 1/2 hours the viral vision of Fat Eddie McGuire taking his lordship's control of the room at his fave Chinese Eatery. Living it big on a Tuesday night with the boys. Bruvs be one of da bois. There was something eating away at me or,or was I overanalysing or chewing the issue to the pulp that be evocative of the journalistic coverage on the matter of a player disposing of the ball in accordance with the rules of a game then being knocked out stone cold unconscious by a head hunter. The aggressor had leapt full bodied toward his opponent at a height, velocity and angle that culminated in his airborne bunched shoulder nailing his opponent's body to the ground. There was intense frustration at not being able to touch the kernel of truth that I somehow knew to be in the Fast Eddie clip......I was certain I couId smell a rat that would not give up the truth of the matter. I closed my eyes and rubbed and as I did so it hit me like a Maynard shirtfront - it was all in the audio with the video being such a compelling study of a first class f*#% tard that it distracted the viewer. The fact was that the post had been, perhaps intentionally or perhaps unintentionally, edited 3 frames short and really went like this: So close your eyes and read. Be very quiet. Still. This is the complete transcript of the Eddie Burger's "Very Public Announcement" " Ladeeze n gennlemen - we have just heard from the AFL tribunal that justice has been done.....(end of edited version)...........................................................over."

  12. And if it works in the next 3 games why not beyond???? Reckon Brodie has shown his class throughout all that has transpired for him this year. Proud to have him as a Demon.
  13. Anyone viewed the footage of McGuire at an eatery last night post the tribunal decision? What a massive preeck.....
  14. The coaching staff have a huge task leading into this Friday night. Time to really shows us what they've got and the measures will include: * having the team focus on the tasks at hand for the blues game amidst all the maynard noise * using the attack on gus as a motivation to win * rectifying the delivery into the fwd 50 * rectifying how the forwards present and finish
  15. Slower and less effective than TMac? Tommo isn't the fastest nor the slowest but he always competes and he puts in a good shift in the vast majority of appearances. Would be a good, safe and reliable in at either end of the park for mine....
  16. Good call - glad to hear you're not on call 24/7......some bosses are slave drivers.................
  17. You're Binman's PA mate - ain't you meant to be the one sourcing materials ??
  18. 100% - we've got to post a winning score against an opposition who features two gun fwds....job for the coaching staff to sort this out...c'mon Goody - let's see what you've got.
