Did Tommo get soundly beaten by McKay? I don't think so. Harry kicked a checkside beauty and a ripper outside 50 but also flapped like a balloon for a dicey free.

Harry had 9 marks and 5 inside 50 so nothing to sneeze at but Tommo wasn't that far off.

Really good game from our perspective. Got that solidity behind the ball back. Really good signs.

Contested possession +29.

inside 50s +20.

clearances +9.

Smashed them all over the ground. I don’t know what most people want from the team. Without looking, I assume it’s just groupthink from the Gameday thread.

Everything was pretty good except the ball movement in the front half and finishing inside 50.

Set shots aren’t always going to go your way and we were on a crazy hot streak before this last fortnight.

But the forward structure is just hot garbage and the midfield have suddenly lost their ability to link up to create the scores too.

At our best we could move the ball somewhat cohesively from arc to arc before things got hard inside 50. Oliver’s a big loss but we should have enough talent to look somewhat fluent.

Take the win, onto next week.

I hope for all our sake that we can find an extra 5-10% in our skills

McVee is the find of the year, he’s a smooth mover, doesn’t ever seem panicked and lands in the right spot all the time

valuable, he is very good and still going upward with his game and taking others with him.

Yeah, coz they were so ruthless last week against the second worst team in the afl when they got smashed in the last, giving up 6 goals.

IIs this a bloody pies footy forum or a Demon's one?

FMD.

I think there’s a few bots planted by Collingwood on here binny.

The free kick was rubbish but to get done 5 times inside 50 isn’t good. A couple were on hard leads with kicks that hit Harry right in the hands which are nearly impossible to stop.

He also did very little with the ball which is a shame because he has the tank and skills to contribute as a rebounder.

But really he was picked to lose the battle but hope we won the war. Poor guy was sacrificed for the greater good.

Salem was awesome tonight.

Was great to see him in full flight running through the middle in the third quarter.

Bowey was also great before he was concussed.

Bowey was outstanding. Plugged into a hole and holds his own - with knockout vision upfield.

Held the team with the so called 'twin towers' to 40 odd points. Fantastic defensive display.

Whilst it wasn't a particularly enjoyable game there were aspects of the Dees brand that showed up tonight.

Hard to score against, contested possession, time in forward half.

Was a long way from perfect but for all the moaning about forward woes and connection, we still had 15 marks inside 50 which is an ok number.

A lot of our forwards lack craft though - Fritsch is really the only semi-consistent natural dangerous forward we have. I would normally include Koz but he's way off the boil post-contract. Really hate the way he's playing, flies when he shouldn't, can't find space, flops about for free kicks and no longer wins hard balls. He looks like he's being told not to play to his hard edge instincts.

Yes, they all for a second took the idea of a bribe seriously 😂  Not surprising given some of the tripe that gets served up as journalism for the footy

When you play in a competative sport sometimes during the season you graft your way into form. You get the neccesary wins. We have the personnel, we are tuning up. We are right in it.

The channel 7 commentary is starting to do my head in, Cripps tackle every commentator thinks is fine, viney's tackle they all say will get him in hot water.

The trial by media needs to stop. I mean its not like the mro is an objective body anyway but the bias inherent in the telecast is sickening.

Viney absolutely no chance of playing next week after all that.

You mob in Melbourne need to have a good hard look at yourselves. Less than 50k at the G in good weather on a prime Friday night game against a team in the Blues trying for top 8 is a disgrace. This aside it was a good UGLY win and I will take that. We are doing a Geelong and building. You don't win the flag in June.

If Cripps gets a week, the AFL is done… not even close to dangerous.

Vineys is a little more complex. A week or a fine, it’s a line ball.

Can’t share the enthusiasm here, ‘wins’ like this paper up cracks - we are a bloody ordinary footy team and more often than not have been for a few years - we should be better than what we are, but we need to see that we are not, it’s not about the opposition, it’s about us and how we play and make decisions on the ground.

Our coaching has been sub-standard for awhile against the best and we never want to deal with the hard truth. Anyone looking objectively at our performances knows we are nowhere near another premiership - who amongst the current coaches will challenge the club with this view and cause change? Who will speak up against the mantra that we ‘are learning’, we still ‘don’t know what our best forward set up is’ etc etc - it’s always glass half full stuff from our coaches, particularly Goody - we are always ‘trying to get better’ … but unsurprisingly, never do…

my main point is we haven’t learnt, or developed any further than where we were mid way through last year, if anything we are worse. This to me comes back to our coaching which I believe is sub-standard and complacent. Our ‘window’ is closing, I’ve been following he demons for 50 years and time goes quickly and I just feel we are missing a golden opportunity with some ‘lazy’ management

The writing is on the wall in so many examples yet there are talents that do work to keep the faith and hope - these attributes need to be investigated closely and ramified across the team and its talent supplies. A win against a very desperate Carlton is still satisfying - to say the least - yet it was our individuals (rather than our team) that had greater desire much of the time, resisting a Blues fightback and rebounding somewhat in the final quarter.

Winning ugly is better than losing ugly.

Liked our defensive solidity. the 3rd tall is a must from here on.

Delivery inside 50 not good.

Shooting practice this week Chocco style.

No one expects us to win next week which takes the pressure off. without that burden we might just produce a performance and surprise the pies.

Go dees

What bye? Don't we have the same number of days off this week as we do for the bye?

I know FAF we have the least number of days off for the bye of all clubs.

Apologies for digressing from our magnificent win  - carry on!

I totally agree that Cripps shouldn't get suspended, ridiculous if he does.

More to the point its so frustrating that a players fate seems sealed before the mro even looks at it.

61 to 44 is the real stat that matters.  And of course 134.1%

Very soundly. McKay nearly kicked 50% of the blues score.

Thought Tomlinson was poor tonight and poor against the bombers. I’d be getting games into Turner.

BT said the players look like they have heavy legs. (I normally don’t listen to him).

The talk of loading could be a reason for our poor execution and I hope that’s the problem, because I have no idea.

But for Gods sake, if that is the problem, can we freshen the Players up for Kings Birthday, because I believe I’m not the only one who really wants to beat Collingwood.

Tommo got beaten fair and square tonight. Seemed to trail his opponent all night.

However, it allowed May and Lever to play far better games than in recent weeks and it’s absolutely unquestionable that we operate better when we have three +190cm defenders.

We are now 3-0 since round 1 2022 with the May-Lever-Tomlinson combo.

I’d like to see the combo continue against the Pies.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
