Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lachie Hunter Loses Bid To Overturn 1 Week Suspension

It doesn't appear the umpires are accountable for their performance these days.

I totally appreciate how difficult the game is to umpire and that the AFL needed to stamp out umpire abuse at all levels of the game. This is reflected by commentators glossing over or ignoring umpiring mistakes. Having said that, it seems it's gone too far the other way with the same umpires showing up week after week making bad calls, getting sucked in by the theatre of the game to make crowd-pleasing calls and/or failing to learn from or improve on their mistakes. Further, to me anyway, they seem to have at times, increasing influence on the momentum of games. The North v Carlton game, earlier in the year was a classic example of this. Do these guys get dropped like players for poor performances?

I guess now that the AFL in their infinite wisdom have decreed 4 umpires to be better than 3 (or 2 or 1) then they need 4 x 9 = 36 per weekend.  Much harder to drop under performers.

Lloyd said on Sunday footy show that he deserved a week because Hunter’s attempt at winning the footy was insufficient.
What a pielkop!

And who decides what is a sufficient attempt at winning the footy. What percentage would be required to make it not a suspension.

What a joke this has all become.

When every ex player says, with injury prevention at the forefront of their opinion, that Hunter did this perfectly to avoid injury as players have been taught, then why is one bloke, inconsistently, doing this job of penalising players.

To those complaining about the Tmac one. The free was deserved for Tmac doing his usual “I can take on every tackler!” Crud that never works.

True that.  But once he got hit in the head it should have been reversed. You can’t go belting guys in the head.

Jonas get suspended for a dangerous tackle that cost a goal, nice job by the umpire not to see that TMac got dumpred on his head. Far worse that what Sparrow did as TMacs head actually impacted the ground. Go figure.

Hunter gets a week, another trial by certain parts of the very useless media.

Izak Rankin, media says no case to answer, sneaky word out of the AFL is the same. Have a look and the incident, way worse than Hunters.

Im just about done with this game, AFL need to review how this completely messed up the system is.

It will be touch football in years to come.

One could almost think the media are working to help some teams and hinder others. There's a clear favoured group - Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton and Brisbane. We are not and having won a flag puts us further down the rankings.

But quite often the umps still pay holding the ball even when players get a toe to it or it’s knocked out in the tackle. And the ump obv didn’t think he hit his head. But all of this could have been avoided if Tmac for once played within his limitations.

What are you on about?

The tackle that TMac got caught in has just been deemed illegal by the MRO.

Unless Port take it to the Tribunal and succeed, Jonas' tackle was illegal. The result should have been a free to TMac, not a free to Jonas.

MRO is a joke. Melbourne finally showed courage with the Roo report. We must now stand up again. The AFL has seen us as an easy target if we fold now all of the hard work will be undone. We must show we are a strong club and don’t mess with us.

Rozzee keeps his feet there is nothing to see here. No way Trac or Oliver would contest in that way and leave themselves way open. They would pick it up and take the tackle.

If Hunter didn’t keep his feet, massive head clash.

AFL want to protect the head - players need to keep their feet.

Could not agree more with this. Well said. The Rankine bump was almost identical to Hunter. We must continue to challenge this moron, and highlight his obvious negative bias towards the MFC.
So his assessment of the Rankine and Hayward incidents is that they were reasonable in the circumstances, and yet Hunters wasnt! The AFL need to step up here, and bring some sanity back into all of this. This is a high contact sport, and yes head injuries are going to happen as a result. Not because players are being careless, it is the nature of the beast.

If Tmac did the right thing and disposed of the ball instead of trying to take the tackler on like he always does and fails then the tackle never occurs.
Tmac did a typical Tmac blunder by not doing the smart thing.
I don’t care about the suspension, the fact is, He took the tackler on, He cost us a free against (right or wrong decision), he cost us momentum and a goal, He made the umpire make a decision. All these things could have been avoided if at as had half a brain cell functioning when ever he has the ball in his hand, He has zero awareness.

I agree with this.

He had a player in the inside ready to give off.

We're taught from junior footy to always give the first option. Instead of giving that first option, he tries to take on the tackler as he always tries to do and deservedly got pinged. They then go and score a goal.

He does this every single [censored] game and its beyond infuriating.

I don't agree.

Here's the incident:

From what I can see, TMac picks it up looking away from goal, turns to look up field, has Viney as you've said, but has Jonas in the way. So he tries to side step Jonas and get his hands free to, potentially, handball to Viney. Jonas then gets him high:image.thumb.png.dd04d59e7d87569524d5f165a214545e.png

Should right there have been a free to TMac. Jonas then proceeds to dump him illegally which should have been another free kick to TMac for a dangerous tackle.

But the main point is that I don't agree that it was simple for him to offload to Viney in the time he had.

Are you serious?

He literally just had to give the quick option to a running Viney in front of him who was breaking away easily from Bonnar.

Jonas came running in from the side and before the tackle came there was probably 2 seconds that McDonald could have just placed it in front of Viney.

Then as @Gorgorothsaid, McDonald needs to learn his limitations. He does this every single game. His attempt at side stepping or baulking a big key defender in this instance is pure stupidity by McDonald. It cost us a direct goal in the end. I disagree with you in that he didn't have enough time. It was there to give off with the quick hands.

This is a sign of a cooked footballer who thinks he's playing footy at 24 years of age.

Cannot believe there’s people on here who blame Tmac for an incident which resulted in him being the victim of a reportable (and reported) offence. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though.

Tmac makes blunders, no doubt. But this was a shocker from the umps - lets say the same incident happens in 20 other games I reckon 15 times Tmac gets the free for high contact. I'm not usually one to blame umpires but they were going for Port in the last quarter - clear as day. Paying marks that hit 5 other blokes hands or the ground, and getting 50m gained for port on the throw ins. Absolute [censored]

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
