Stop talking about the dark yearsand our slow rise up the ladder.

Everyone has gone over this a million times. You'll just encourage the media to dig up horror stories if we're back on top soon.

I wasnt in Aust during those years but ive seen the game results published year by year. Far worse than the seventies even early eighties period.

Let it go !

Hear, hear … we should be like Carlton supporters who last night saw off the end of their most recent dynasty which lasted from Round 1 to Round 4, 2023.

Playing Essendon this week was obviously the inspiration for this piece. That 148 point drubbing in 2013 was a pivotal night in our history, and I personally find it hard to believe that it was only 10 years ago.

Anyway, you didn't have to read it, or even click on the thread.

I even said "for those interested" to cater for the likes of yourself who clearly aren't, but yet you click anyway, then come here to say don't talk about it.  Odd...  🤔

Speaking of ten years ago, Facebook has the Memories page which shows you posts you made on that day in years gone by.

Yesterday it showed me a post from 2013 where I had checked at the G with a mate.

Saturday afternoon, 18,571 in attendance and a 94 point loss to the Eagles.

That day was the first time I noticed the guide wires across the top of the G to limit the number of seagulls flying in.

There wasn't a lot to look at on the field that day..

Ahh, memories. Could always get a good seat at the MCG in those days, whatever time you arrived.

Look on the bright side. Our supporters knew all the names of the boys in the draft before any other club!

And the players got applauded off at half time because they weren't getting thrashed by as much as expected. That changed about 90 seconds into the third quarter.

Great memory, just double checked the scores,

8 Points down at quarter time (Hope)
10 Points down at half time (Hope)
72 Points down at 3 quarter time (Despair)
94 Points down at full time (Gloom)

I was there too. I’m pretty sure Howe took that hanger running with the flight on top of Embley in that game.

The huge mark he took against Sydney was also in a 100 point loss.

Back in the dark times regular hangers were just about the only thing to look forward to be it Robbo, Jurrah or Howe taking them in yet another belting.

That was the first game I took my oldest son to. An inauspicious debut.

Probably the last time we played the eagles at the G.

But a very good interview with Nathan Jones in the herald sun last Sunday. Spoke about those days and obviously missing the premiership, but gee we were lucky he stayed loyal and hung around.

Yes!!

That's not luck however, that is about building culture and belief. As time goes by I hope Jones will be revered in the same way as Barassi and Flower, for like them, he set the standard that others must aspire to.

I cannot help but look at the Jackson departure and think he will never understand what Nathan Jones's values mean and what influence that has on success.

In those days (11-13) I often wondered if I’d have a club to support the next day a la Fitzroy.

I don’t mind seeing things about the bad times because ‘bang! bang! bang!’ made the flag so much the sweeter.

We could win the next 10 in a row, but none of them will ever taste as good as the one we got after so many years thinking that that joy only happens to others

Also at that game…we were so bad in those days in the post match interviews they players were talking up how good they were for the first half! Hard to believe today

Yeah, watching it alone, Covid; think it was ANBs goal - put us 62 points up, I realised MFCSS was done and not even WE could lose it from here.

The boys were chest bumping and those last few minutes I knew there’d be red and blue streamers and glitter as the cup was presented.

Thought it only happened to others.

It's nice to see all these 10 year success stories but I'd like to think the new era had started now and there isn't as much need to look back to where we've come from.

Enough talk of a dynasty already.
We're miles off any of that BS.

Dynasty. What is this media rubbish?

We won the 2021 premiership. 🏆🏆🏆😊😊😊☀️☀️☀️
that was sensational amazing unbelievable

But the presume or assume that we will just roll up and win more.  It takes hard work and dedication and good fortune to win premierships.  Let’s just concentrate on next week.  Remove hubris … it’s very dangerous

On the other hand, you could argue that Jackson's values put family above career. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Well I wouldn't argue that. Struck me that he just needed to be coddled by Mummy.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
