I was at the game and maybe you see different things on TV, but I thought Grundy put in a solid effort and that Bowey and Spargo were very average. Hunter was really good, Lever and Brown good, and Oliver just never gives up.

6 Hunter

5 Lever

4 Oliver

3 Brown

2 Rivers

1 Grundy

Our bottom six were very poor.

6 Lever - steady and reliable all night

5 Hunter - very damaging with the footy, smart and creative

4 Ben Brown - played CHF and key forward  and kicked good goals

3 Grundy - battled hard against two opponents and reminded off his ruck craft

2 Oliver - battled and battled as a warrior all night but fumbles and turnovers were costly (and some defensive switch offs were costly)

1 Bowey- got less of the footy than others but disposal efficiency were effective and created 3 goals and intercepted well

I wonder what they are going to do with McDonald hasn't got going if van Rooyen plays well in the 2's he could be in trouble.

People will say "poor disposal, despite getting a lot of it".

But Oliver went at 62% DE. Last week everyone gushed over Petracca's game and he went at 50%.

With respect Nicko the votes are not a    1,2, and 3 "best in Show"  (or On Ground) tacklefest.

Yes some players did not look like they were up for a tackle inc. Fritta. Tackled poorly. Still earns his 3 goals to prove his class.

The DE stat is often overrated and sometimes underrated.  And often a poor guide.  To be honest, it's a confusing stat especially when looking at the output of Petracca last week.  He was dominant yet his DE percentage indicated otherwise

The eye test is more pertinent and even that's subjective

Brayshaw went at 63% last night and had 27 possessions.  Sure, he was a bit wasteful as Oliver was but many of our players just didn't get enough of the ball and were largely invisible.  That's a much bigger concern

We had at least 12 players who underperformed in terms of actual possessions.  Didn't get near it

At times Fritta may look lackadaisical but at one point last night he never gave up  defending and laid 3 tackles from memory  within seconds in one passage of play-he never gave up putting on the pressure. Credit where credit is due. Does anyone know exactly when this happened-will try to re watch it on  replay. 3rd or 4th quarter.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
