6.  Kozzie - super clean all night, pressure 1st class all night.  4 snags for a small forward... noice!

5.  Gawn - just everywhere, sticking hands in everywhere to spoil/flick ball around etc.  Desperation off the charts.

4.  Tracc - Bit of a coin toss between him & Gawn.  When Tracc decides to take it up a notch look out.  Not many can go with him.

3.  Gus - a few fumbles in the 1st half.  Made ammends and then some in the second.

2.  Rivers - Great run and drive off HB.  Solid all night

1.  Ben Brown - got to plenty of contests.  Took some nice clunks including a couple on the lead.  Some clutch goals.  4 is a decent haul!

Apologies... Bowser, Lever, Tomo, Petty & Spargoat

Jeez, we expect a lot from Clarry based on these votes!

I was going to ask who will be the first person of 2023 to attack someone for their votes.

Gawn really played a complete game. He was a threat offensively and defensively to the Bulldogs all night.  His capacity to push back and either fill a hole or play genuine one-on- one meant that we could cover May's absence. Watching him live at the ground is a real lesson in what it takes to be a genuinely elite big man at this level.  English is a good ruckman who played a solid game but he got schooled by Max in work rate and effort, as well as craft.

The votes are in and mine wouldn’t impact the final standings. As far as I can see there are no votes for Bowser and only one mention of him and perhaps rightly so given the others in front of him but there is no player in the team I feel more comfortable with when ball is in hand and he is so clean. This kid is a jet.

Shout out to Kade Chandler. He’s now a good AFL player and not a perhaps player. When he settles in front of goal we’ve got another beauty. Judd McVee is also going to be very hard to drop when Salo comes back. Jason Taylor, you’re a genius!

Good summary Joeboy, don’t always agree but love the thread.

Sorry, this started out to be a comment on Bowser and no votes but mushroomed!

In no order

i just thought that Puckett, BBB and Spargo all played extremely well

and Lever, Thomo and Petty were rocks

apologies to at least Gawn, Tracca, Oliver, Chandler, AnB, McVee, Rivers, Bowey.
And gussy boy

both McVee and Chandler best 22 end of this year definitely next year

A final word on Max. Best ruckman I have seen ....... ever.  Can do it all. A great captain.

No wonder he is filling a wardrobe with AA jackets.

6-1

Gawn, epic, Hawthorn 2017, / Prelim 2021 like

Trac, Beast, so strong and made others better the way he draws and rides a tackle.

Lever, Totally on, one of his best red and blue performances

Pickett, Mr 1%, Was a Javelin missile, scared the Dogs like a tank full of Russians.

Oliver, Still amongst the best.

Rivers, Is a serious player.

Sorry to many.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
