Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trade Rumours 2023

Second year in a row North have screwed us (with afl help this time).

Last year we were eyeing off Port’s pick 9 in a Jackson trade that would’ve had us in line to get up further to get Humphrey. North messed that up when JHF became available.

This year we want pick 11 but it’s hard to see how we beat North for it, they just have so much more to offer. And we’re surely no chance of getting all the way to pick 1.

The compo is not the hard to understand. If you're a [censored] team down the bottom, you'll get higher compo. Hawks got SFA for Buddy. That's how it works.

It’s hard to understand when the compo for a player who is borderline AFL quality is pick 3.

If McKay was contracted who would offer North pick 3 for him? He would hardly be worth a second rounder given his output.
If his surname wasn’t McKay he would probably be a delisted free agent by now.

does anyone in their right mind thing Essendon would have traded a top-3 pick to get McKay? Or even their current top 8?

Yes, Dodoro is a great guy to deal with. Very fair and makes trading easy

Tell me the AFL would bend over backwards for North in this matter if Clarkson wasn’t their coach. Laughable.

Look at the excuses they gave for turning us down in 13 and 14.

In fact in 14 we were right in line with North, and the afl said, you’re getting free agent compo, you’ve got young talent (we had stuff all), you’ve traded for veterans (which actually hurt our future) and you’ve got Roos and Goodwin coming.

Would be so easy for the afl to say ‘you’ve got Clarko, deal with it’.

The response is - ‘you’ve got Clarko…let’s help him so he doesn’t quit mid season again’

You do understand that the way we play has a significant bearing on the ability to score goals? At the start of the year we were attacking heavily through the corridor.

The club collects GPS data on every player. They know who is running hard. The rewards as a fwd can be tenuous. You can do 20 sprint leads and the ball is not kicked to you for example

It is probably the hardest position on the ground to play consistently. Its why many don't succeed

Very aware it's one of, if not the toughest positions to play.

Anyway we are poles apart on Chandler's second half performance it seems.

Statistically his average player rating in the back half (Rnds 13 - 24 vs Rnds 1 - 12) was down 17%.

Can he correct and put in a more consistent season in 24?  I'm sure he has the potential but that is his challenge imv.

James Frawley (aged 26) compo for FA to move to Hawks got us Angus Brayshaw. 👏👏👏

Frawley had been an All Australian, three times in All Australian squad, twice represented Australia in international rules, twice in top 5 in MFC B&F including runner in 2010.

Mckay is not within a country mile of the player Frawley is/was at the same stage.

AFL handouts to Kangas is transparent bias and favouritism to a high degree.

id have the following in front of Mckay as a KPD.

We all know the system isn't fair, so no point worrying about it as it isn't changing anytime soon.

We can't complain as we got the exact same thing for Frawley at a similar time that the Hawks got pick 19 for Buddy and were punished for being a good side.

The only way to end this is to get rid of compensation for free agents entirely.

If I hear one more person compare Frawley to McKay I will lose my mind.

There’s a thousand ways to change it but the first step is just removing top 10 picks and the compo being after a clubs pick and make it mid round and end of round.

If we got pick 11 for Frawley we would’ve taken Lever and been fine.

Review the entire system to change it drastically but announce right now it’s never going to be top 10 again.

And fire the idiots who can’t work out how to index wages to the new CBA.

I don't think anyone disputed Frawley was band 1.

McKay on the other hand.....

I believe Frawley’s wage was borderline or even below tier 1, the afl helped us out. But he took 10-20% less to join the Hawks super team. Had he taken other offers he’d have cleared it easily.

McKay is joining a perennially bad team and not making what anyone could call a premium wage these days. Plus North have been helped x 4 first rounders. It’s either incompetence or deliberate. With the afl it’s hard to know which

Is it fair to say that this in on Essendon for going hard for a bang average player as if he would be their saviour?

Just don't trade for him let him stay at North, honestly AFL is very amateur in how they handle FA and the whole trade process.

Can't have a more manufactured system! I guess it's all about entertainment and drama not so much about the Sport.

@BangBnagBang agree. 18th ranked AFL full back and he’s worth pick 3. Not mid range 1st round or end of 1st round (perhaps reasonable) but pick 3. Ffs.

It's all about help from the AFL.

North will get Reid and another top player and WC will get Curtin and an extra couple of top players.

AFL will say they did it themselves by pick swapping.

No one is fooled.

Given the amount of talent the Roos are bringing in, especially in the midfield I hope we are getting in the ear of someone like Will Phillips.

Hasn't quite come on early in his career and if they have so many high draft picks trying to get a game he may look to move.

Good mates with Bailey Laurie as well I think.

Aim higher. We poach Sheezel or Harley Reid in 1-2 years time. Let’s pick the carcass of that loser club so those talented kids careers aren’t wasted.

I wouldn't be surprised if they played finals in 2025. AFL seems to have a way to get things done when there is a desire to do it. They have some talent now and will load up again this year. There's no doubt they are on an upwards trajectory.

Anything less than a premiership in 3-5 years must be deemed an utter failure.

They’ll now have more first rounders on their list than even Gold Coast! It’s mind boggling and the rest of the clubs should complain to the AFL and/or actively target them to even out the competition again.

Whether they like it or not, are successful or not, Norf will help build the Tasmania team. They will have too much talent to keep on their books and wont have salary cap concessions like GWS and GCS were afforded with the living-away-from-home allowance.

They have a short window to make it work before they have to start renewing a crop of players as soon as 3-4 years time at which point there will be a garage sale. That is if they can get out of the bottom 4 - stay there for another 1-2 years, players will start to leave the club. With their defence essentially non-existent, 2024 is going to be similar to this year, so i expect more pain. They will win more games against the bottom 4-6 teams, but cant see them really challenging for top 8 until at least 2026.

Yes they will have around 14 1st round picks if they add/hold the current selections (11 currently after removing Cunnington and Ziebell). That’s a huge group of talent to develop over the next 2-3 years.  AFL might have to say sorry to other clubs in a few years. They’re good at apologizing 🤯🤯🤯

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
