Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maybe but remember; Brad Green after we won our first game of the year in Rd 10 in 2007 said ‘we can still play finals and we should aim for that.’

And you know what happened? ☺️

We finished 3rd last in 5 wins…

(cough)

I prefer not to speak that year, the beginning of some dark days...

As bad as they have been so far they could well be on the same wins as us after next weekend.

This is a ridiculous post.

They will have played three sides most picked to be bottom 4, and we will have played two top 4 and one (expected) top 8 sides.

We had the hardest first three weeks out of all teams. Freo had the easiest.

With Adelaide and GCS to come in round 4 and 5, unless they are 2-3 they are in serious trouble.

Remember, their return games are against: Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, West Coast, Western Bulldogs. Their fixture isn't getting easier.

i just cranked up my computer and did some serious and in depth calculations on the ladder.

the amazing result is that there is only a 2 game difference between the bottom and top of the ladder

amazing, huh?

The mistake Freo has made was that in the process of getting Jackson, they had 5 players leave, most of whom left because Freo either low-balled them or [censored] them off so bad they wanted out.  Lobb, Acres and Logue all played 20+ games in 2022 so they were clearly best 22 calibre.  Tucker played 14 and Meek 6 (no idea if injuries played a prat in those numbers).  That's far too much talent going out for a team supposedly on the rise with only Jackson, O'Meara and Josh Corbert coming in.

Tabener has to be the most frustrating forward. 100 games, 29yo and he didn’t even have a scoring shot when he is their main target

him and LJ as the key talls is the worst fwd line in the league by a mile

It's just so obvious that this method is not how you take a club to the next step. Those 20 gamers you mentioned were big contributors in 2022, especially Acres. With a list profile at the stage theirs is at, that many changes can upset the mould and take time to reset again. Then to go out and throw the money bags out there who is really only high potential who doesn't address a need. They weren't crying out for a ruckman and he doesn't fix their forward issues.

I just can't see how this can be seen as an organisation making good and sensible decisions in line with the vision of a club yet to break their duck. I see it as a club that was on the way to building a 'bloods no DH' culture and overnight has pivoted to the old fashioned Carlton mentality and caving in to the shiny object syndrome.

I think one thing Mark Neeld got wrong as coach was he thought that by virtue of playing x amount of games history tells you that's when you become good. i think the reality is you need a core of the right young players, surrounded by the right development coaches and program to play a significant number of games together with a similar game plan to build cohesion.

Fremantle i'd say haven't identified and adapted to the new trends in footy and have gone back to an outdated game plan with slow movement, they don't have the players to kick a winning score consistently and by clearing out the players to fit in Luke Jackson, they've destroyed that cohesion, and upset the player group by paying him so much money.

they're a live possibility to have a similar year to what we did in 2019 when we finished second last following a prelim.

Only one thing?

I think the idea of getting games into the kids was more of a Bailey thing over Neeld anyway as the latter went for more experienced recruits continually rather than keep hitting the draft.

You're spot on though with the core of right young players.  You need that committed and talented group to build around.

I was feeling a bit gloomy still after our performance so I wandered over to a Freo forum to make myself feel better, feeding from their negativity..... I wasn't let down and wow did I get my fill.

They're ready to burn the whole place down and start again and already wanting mass changes and the coach sacked.

I never had much against the dockers as they've always been rather irrelevant but reading some of the arrogance coming from supporters and administration when they picked up Hogan and Jackson really left a foul taste in my mouth.

So yes, I'm quite enjoying this whole 'death ride' experience and well and truly on board for season 2023.

This will be the second time in my life cheering on the Eagles on Sunday.  The first time ever was 2018 GF where I found myself watching as a completely neutral supporter until they kept showing Eddie pumping his fists and jumping out of his seat when the Pies got away early.

It was then I remembered the hatred of the filth > dislike of the eagles.

So let's go West Coast!  Bring us home a top 5 pick!

Wowee.

I feel sorry for Jackson. He is not playing well and the pressure and angst will build.

West Coast paying $3.30 for the win (under 40pts).  they certainly have a much more potent fwd line with Darling, Ryan, Allen, Waterman and Cripps.  Freo look lost and cannot score.  I reckon they are very close to being done for the year!

It's a real 'Moneyball' approach that looks like it's been created by a computer.

There's every chance this becomes a step back to go forward year for them. A lot riding on this derby.

David King in SEN this morning said jackson must be saying to himself ..."... what AM I doing here..."  in relation to both Freo and Freo's forward line.

Exactly.  Hes barely played 4 quarters in his life.  He's a cameo tall player with below average marking skills and getting paid 800,000 a year for 6 years plus.  Be happy for him.

And for us to get rid of him at his stocks high.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
