I am probably putting my neck on the line but I am quietly confident Clayton Oliver may win the Brownlow medal this year.

I am certainly not a gambling man though. As I know Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Jack Viney and Max Gawn will get plenty of Brownlow votes too.

Obviously, Clayton and the rest of the Demons players want more Premiership medallions. That should be the number one priority.

But nevertheless, it would be wonderful if Melbourne had another Brownlow medallist and break the 22 year drought since Shane Woewodin won the Brownlow back in 2000.

Definitely 3 votes last night.  Got almost the same stats as Neale but imv he was more damaging and is the king of the contested footy. And we won by 10 goals 😊😊

If I was voting I'd say last night was a 3 voter. 30 touches of which 20 were contested, 13 clearances and 5 tackles. If he gets a goal you would chalk the 3 up easily.

Consistency kings like Clarry usually go close to winning it. I expect him to poll very well this year but Neale will be up there too.

Jackson or Oliver could get 3 votes. 

TBH, I cared about the Brownlow during all the years when we were a poor side. We've won our share of them in my lifetime. Now I've come to realise that a Brownlow doesn't define a player's achievements.

Last year I was glad that one of our players didn't win it, as I saw it as a distraction with the G/F coming up. The same applies to this year. If we make it through to the Granny, I'd rather Clarry not win it. If we don't, it would be nice recognition for him to win it, but it wouldn't upset me if he didn't.

I agree @mo64, that feels similar to my own experience re the definition of the Brownlow. More so now, I put emphasis on the AFLCA votes rather than the Chas.

Will likely pass Jimmy on total Brownlow votes this year, incredible considering he's only just turned 25

Wines and Neale had the advantage of being excellent players in teams where there weren't many other stand-outs

I'm with @mo64 as well. I'm not all that fussed about it. My focus is on gong B2B not the brownlow

It’s always going to be hard with Petracca, I hope he wins one though. Also the votes are very inconsistent would be surprised if he got the 3 votes on Friday night

Cue close finish in the count, with Clarry needing votes in the last round. Gill calls “Melbourne…C…” followed by interminable pause to heighten the drama as to whether it’s our #5 or our #13. And then calls out “Spargo”!

Or alternative scenario with Trac needing the votes. 

I'd imagine if he wins the Brownlow, he'll actually start getting holding frees paid to him as of 2023.

He’s an absolute lock this year I reckon. Even with others potentially taking votes, Clarry has been a class above week in week out

This must be his best year so far in his career. His two games he missed due to the thumb injury may just be the difference, I thought his game against the dogs doesn't count as you could clearly see the injury was still bothering him. In saying that, he has been so dominant in so many games that polling no votes in those games won't stop him from winning it. Plenty of 3 vote games this year!

Stuff the Brownlow, if he wins it and we don’t take home the cup, he’ll feel like it’s been a wasted year.

Premiership medals are the only ones that count. Just ask Ollie Wines and Dangerfield.

He is neck and neck with Petracca in the AFLCA champion player award with try games to go, and 2 votes behind Touk Miller and Lachie Neale.

Neale shouldn't poll much in the last 2 rounds.

No idea how Miller will poll as he was the GCS best when they got belted by Geelong, and a couple will take votes off him this week Sexton 6 goals, Swallow, Anderson both 30+ touches).

Whereas id expect Clarry will poll a few both weeks.

So it's tight there with both Track and Clarry probably finishing top 3.

That would give him 4 Blueys, 2 AAs, 2 AFLCA awards, and a Charlie in only 7 years (and at age 25). And solidify his place as one of our greatest ever.

He is behind only Robbie as my favourite Dees player of all time. 5 Brownlows and 5 flags for Clarry won’t change that.

Connor Rose is another, he's had an impressive back half of the season and that was being reflected in the coaches votes.

I could not give a fig about the Brownlow anymore. Yes it has individual prestige but it is a much flawed assessment. Umpires have enough trouble adjudicating a game let alone giving their opinion on who deserves votes. I suggest winning or finishing high in the coaches votes surely would matter more to players.They are assessing the players that impacted the result and whilst mids still dominate they are more likely to recognise the impact of other roles. 

Either way I would prefer our players just add cups to the cabinet than  get distracted by Charlie.

Don't share the optimism of some on here.  I think Gawn has to poll at least 15 votes.  If you run the line through his coaches votes up to the last time they were reported he had 50 - including 4 10's and an 8.  That's pretty close to 5 best ons.  Oliver gets a lot of coaches votes obviously, but they can regularly be outside of the top 3 on the ground.  For mine Oliver, Petracca should get mid 20's, Gawn and Brayshaw likey mid to high teens.  Forget anyone else polling substantially from us.  Miller has got literally nobody taking votes off him and they won 10 games this year.  Miller often polls well in losses going by previous counts.  I reckon he's the one.  Neale will get plenty and I thin those two will finish ahead of our guys.  I expect we'll go close to the highest aggregate votes (likely with Geelong) but I also expect that by the time the count is done we'll all have bigger things on our minds.

As LilRedFE said, the umpires have enough difficulty umpiring the game without having to keep track of who the best and fairest player is.  And they naturally focus on the players they see most - midfielders. 

Coaches votes are much better, but I wonder to what extent they are affected by internal management of players by the coach, eg. coach gives a player a vote as an encouragement award.  My guess is that wouldn't have much affect on the outcome for the top players.

Another coaches award and B+F and never getting near the recognition he deserves in the Brownlow would seem more on brand for Clarry.

In all honesty something is badly wrong if he’s not well ahead by round 16, but he’s also been understandably off his game since Selwood hacked his thumb in half. I’m just glad he was back to something like his best against the Lions
