Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

CHANGES: QF vs Sydney

The only change I could see is Salem in for one of Spargo or ANB.
Bowser played a great defensive game. Watched the replay and couldn’t believe his tackles, ferocious for a little fella.
Salem has been poor defensively, might be better half forward.

So we drop Stevic, as he caused the last one, overruling the umpire standing a few metres away, who paid a free for a dangerous tackle.

It was a blatant mistake by Stevic who said Rivers held the ball. Wrong, a dangerous tackle is not a legal one and he should have kept his whistle  out if it.

Stevic had plenty of possessions but needs to stop targeting Gawn and Jackson. Plus every single disposal was a 50/50 allowing the opposition ruckman a chance.

Combine this with the howler you mentioned above and I think you are right and we should drop Stevic.

Salem would be the obvious replacement as his disposal is so much better

Could Bowser play Spargo's role??

No,  have to train for that and learn the running patterns and fwd set up.

first week of finals isn't the time to try that,  and whilst Bowie is a nice kick, Spargo is just as good and exceptionally good going inside 50.  I know he has been a little down but id back him in to turn it around.

And, we were loading…

Unless you’re being facetious, Sydney would have also had an elevated regime too. They were just better than us. Reid got a hold of a backline without May and we never looked like kicking a score without Gawn being in the square.

No I'm not and yes I agree but you can't compare our regime to theirs when they were 6-4 after 10 rounds and we were 10-0. I doubt they were doing anywhere near the amount of work that we were at the time.

Anyway it was at a time where multiple players were banged up anyway especially our backline.

Yes, we're the only club with a sophisticated loading regime. You've been brainwashed.

Not loading at training. But 10+ games Infront of ave 50-60k supporters in games under 10 points is a special kind of loading I've never seen before. They won't doubt themselves in any situation. Very dangerous and a chance to pinch one

What's your background in this field? Just admit that you have no idea of how clubs conduct their loading. You're guessing to support your narrative. And you also don't know how much loading impacts results, if any.

No chance of Melksham out, he’s our third most dangerous forward.

Sparrow and ANB are defensive beasts, don’t get caught up in stats here. Positioning and work rate does not appear on the stats sheet.

I’d say the only chance is JJ out as sub, and Salem/Bowey being the sub.

You're clearly in denial. I admit I have no background in the field but have done a lot of reading and there have been so many intelligent posts by many posters in the "loading" thread explaining how significant this is especially for sports involving the amount of running that the AFL does, or specifically how dependent our gameplan is on gut running.

The fact that you're still disputing the fact that loading has any significant impact on results simply tells me you are unwilling to accept it no matter the evidence.

I'll be waiting for you to give me any reasonable explanation for the obvious drop off in our performances around either side of the bye this and last year that has nothing to do with fitness and why we looked a different team come finals than in the middle of the season.

There is no evidence. It's all conjecture and opinion. I'll leave it at that.

Save your loading posts for the appropriate thread.

I came down for that game and we did struggle in the backline - and we were clearly sluggish - most likely for our loading being at its zenith before the bye. My main point is that we can assume similar for Sydney and so it is difficult to draw much from that or the game itself. It was one of the first games that illustrated that we were not going inside 50 too well, which has come up a few times since.

Again, how much you draw from that game is up to the beholder.

On the contrary Melksham's resurgence in form will give the opposition something to think about which they wouldn't have been worried about several weeks ago

To each their own. You didn't have to respond to me but did, maybe don't respond if you don't like it.

You should consider reading it and opening up to the idea. It may spare you of some of your MFCss that we have lost our "hunger" like it has mine and others. Just a suggestion though

We need to be aware of umpires allowing play to go on without stoppages or frees, when they can see that a team, in this case mostly Collingwood, it seems, is going to extraordinary even ferocious efforts to extract the ball and play on where the opponent in this case Carlton is stopped and expecting a ball up. Guess who gets the ball to advantage and goals..

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
