Farewell Brodie Grundy

Ouch!

Lynch looks to be on a heavily back ended deal which would make for a problem unless Tigers kick in reasonable dollars.

With the wonderful benefit of hindsight Lobb might have been a better target but Grundy at $650k was seemingly too good to pass up

Lobb's a spud, I'd happily take Lynch for $700K for 2 years

Brodie is both a participant in, and the victim off, the pernicious consequences of the diverse forms of neo-liberalism, the market-economy, and the populism of the meat-market known to us as the AFL. All souls are available to be sailed up the river by shameless, self-righteous and conniving sleaze-bags. If he’s feeling betrayed, I cannot blame him. Yet, we all play a part, consciously or not, in our own betrayal. And on a reported $1.2m per year for seven years, guaranteed, my mercifulness toward him is somewhat circumscribed. As they say in other places, Brodie has what can be termed, “a better class of problem”.

I can.

He surely knew that there was a very real chance the Gawndy experiment wouldn’t bear fruit, and that the whole exercise was a gamble. If at any point he feels “betrayed” then he just hasn’t read the situation properly from the start.

But having said that, I highly doubt he would feel that way if he was told by the club to explore his options. He’s smarter than your average player, and would have been completely prepared for such an outcome. If anything, I would imagine he would feel mostly gratitude towards the club for keeping his career on track, and realising that he would not be content playing the rest of it out in the VFL.

Really annoying that Jeremy Howe feels the need to chip in with [censored] commentary about how we have mistreated his mate Brodie

I would love nothing more than someone running through him (in a fair but brutal fashion) during the QF

I have no issue with what was said on Footy Classified, or by Jeremy Howe. Their opinions were shared by 99% of the football world when the trade was made. And it's proven to be correct.

As for Grundy meeting with Port players and Hinkley, if the club has told Grundy's management that he's free to explore other options, then there's no issue. If the meeting was held over Zoom, we wouldn't be talking about it.

If Max goes down and Grundy is required, meeting with Port should have no impact on his performance. If he's mentally checked out of the MFC, then that would be reflected on the training track, and he wouldn't get selected anyway.

Just want to set the record straight they we paid the equivalent of pick 14 in draft pick points to trade up to pick 27 from Port Adelaide, to give this to the Pies. If Grundy does go to Port Adelaide, they of all teams know how much we gave up to get Grundy, and that was with unknown recovery from injury.
I think the trade should be a future first with maybe a future third going back but definitely play hard ball.

In fact if Port Adelaide cant trade for better draft picks then play ULTRAhard ball. Jeelong and Swans need Rucks desperately, a third or even fourth club gets involved in a SUPERTRADE and we get???

interested to hear kornes say he reckons sydney are the team that are in competition with the pear for grundy's services

as a general rule, what sydney want sydney get - they're happy to pay 'overs' as they know that they get a swathe of academy selections every few years, most who are excellent midfielders

they currently hold picks 11, 29, 30, 41, 49, 85

i would presume their first rounder would be out of the question, but it would be handy for us to hold three picks inside the first round to really target that pick 1

alternatively those back to back second rounders might be attractive to say, oh i dunno, gc17 who are looking to maximise points

I'm on record saying this trade would only be a success if Melbourne wins a flag with Brodie at the club and I'm continuing with that line.  If we win the flag this year with Max making a solid contribution because he's playing fit in contrast with last year, then I'll consider the trade a success even if Brodie doesn't play for the rest of the year and gets traded at the end.  Flags are hard to win and take a lot of ingredients.

He ( Howe ) has unfortunately become one of my least liked players.

He feels this need to have a go at his old club, who got him out of Tassie and changed his whole life.

Maybe it's time to give it a rest Jeremy.

JVR can do to him what he apparently did to all our defenders in the pre season and knee him straight in the back.

Absolute loud mouth.

Not really sure why Howe has a hatred or comments on the Dee's for. We gave him a wildcard shot basically at an AFL career, yes it wouldn't have been easy but you never bite the hand that feeds you. IIRC, he left Melbourne as he wanted to play forward and win a flag. He's gone to Pies and got neither, so it's a reflection of his own bitterness perhaps. Dee's winning another flag would add lots more salt hehe

Good old Jeremy Howe. Maybe just maybe he should look in his own back yard first as Brodie wouldn’t have had to leave the collywobbles if they didn’t stuff up his contract value in the first place.

Those in glass houses Mr Einstein Jeremy. FMD.

Almost every time Howe takes a hanger (in fairness he is best natural leap and mark I have ever seen), he gives the ball away

his awareness and kicking are far from elite which stops him from being considered an A grader

Howe won't play in front.
Always looking for the speccy.

Better off letting Viney give him one of his standard operating procedure shoulder charging rib crackers.

If Cox is playing I think we need to consider Grundy

I'm thinking that this was a plan all the time and Goodwin has been playing mind games

Who ever plays someone needs to smash Cox early He is a thug who's primary role is to injure opposition players

Shut him down Do not allow him to push Max around

Id love us to come out in the old hawks/geelong style of finals attitude..

Those that know....understand.

HURT them.....  much.

Welcome to Finals ...Filth !!..  you don't belong.

p.s.   that also means "testing" every known injury and niggle we know they're carrying.

This is not a time for nice footy 😉

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
