Can’t for the life of me work out why the AFL can’t make the umpiring a full time gig.

do that and most of these crap umpired days disappear

To be fair I think that all 3 umpires were blind sided about that smack to the gob. We had the advantage of watching the TV where the cameras picked up the discretion in full view and most of the spectators also saw it clearly but all the umpires were busy looking away from the ball lest a Crow player might be being blocked or in some way impeded forward of where the ball might be going. It’s very understandable for games in Adelaide.

Great 12th win in hostile territory.

Mids were great and backs were intercept kings.

Kozzi was intimidating and got some help in that 3rd qtr.

Onto Mordor!

Mordor - that's funny!

I've got my ticket, can't wait for Thursday night. Looking forward to sitting and barracking shoulder to shoulder with two bays full of faithful Dees supporters at Mordor on Thursday night.

It would give them more time to get it wrong

On tour with the family at the ground. Yes the roar of affirmation a factor, but absolutely incompetent maggotry all night. All the 50/50’s all the “technicals” went to the Crows  - none to us of course. Then Clarry’s head ripped off, Nibbler driven into the ground. Clown maggots miss those, “out of position” “looking around corners” etc. They are a joke and the AFL narrative will be built to around “respect”. You have to be joking. Maggots 31 and 20 were simply appalling.

So proud of our lads tonight: Clarry, Tracc, The Skipper, JJ, Weid, Rick, the list goes on. We are a good team, we play to a system, we respond when challenged, and most importantly we are fit and can run out games.

Over  and out from Adelaide! Go Dees.

Umpires were literally trying to blow the ball goalward with whistle - extraordinary tellie folks. Great win for mine.

Clearly missing some height but was more frustrated with inaccuracy from goalsquare.

Now onto the tough ones......

Clarry is hard done by. The umps don't look after him, and not just this game.

Players hang off him before the ball arrives and he gets pinned for not disposing of the sherrin properly.

For a champion player, he gets hardly any protection most weeks from the umps and has to play through being tagged and targeted.

Can't see him getting the Brownlow votes he deserves, if they just don't see what he does, how he goes about it and his performance through the duress the opposition apply.

One of the toughest, fairest and most talented footballer for the Dees I've seen.

I care, had a gut full of biased interstate umpiring for the last 30+ years. For a multi million dollar industry it's F'n amateur hour

And the clowns at HQ say that these incompetents should be respected!

Do you mean so they will be above corruption?

So this win means we’re playing finals, yeah?
Anyone got Leigh Montagna’s email address?

I’m sure that the ova shoulder against May on their ff, on the fifty line 2nd qtr I think, was actually his own teammates arm across his shoulder, fmd.

It was clearly a Crows hand over Tex's shoulder.  Add to that the exaggerated head snap by Tex!  The club needs to send that in and highlight it.  They were baltantly trying their most to get the Crows into the match all night.

I havent seen the game but the umpires were terrible

Even Blind Freddy knew the umps were bad

We need to compile a list of complete joke umpiring decisions. As bad as I’ve ever seen.

I will kick it off:

1) Oliver whack to the head not paid high

2) Ben Brown’s clear mark tht was then knocked from his hands and called play on

3) Spargo’s tackle that was called holding the man, when it was a clear incorrect disposal

4) Taylor Walker ruck contest

5) Taylor Walker generally

Can we give clarry a 7 year extension every week???

Played a blinder!!!!

Brilliant gutsy win missing huge structurally important players. Oliver, Trac, Viney Huge! Lever and Langdon back to their best! Forwards needed to take their chances more but we looked more dangerous again. Bring back Gawny and Jacko(🤞🤞🤞) and it’s our best 22 for Geelong. Let’s get a win for the ages!

Also that was the most flagrantly biased umpiring display I’ve ever seen, sie of the clear frees to us that we’re missed, or just basics like marks and out on the full were a joke. That’s the closest I’ve ever seen to requiring someone sort of inquiry for corruption. Ruined the spectacle of a great, tough game!

First game outside of Victoria and I have to say it was a ripper to watch.

Mens Department are immense, #3 & 17 are as important as #1, 35 & 8 and we bumped into Harry P on the way home from dinner still in his gear and looking very happy.

There is a different feel when travelling as our hotel was right next to the team's and we kept bumping into the players out and about. Walking distance to the ground was cream on the cake

Great result in enemy territory but as soon as the game was over the locals went straight back to their hospitable selves.

Great fun and go Dees

(Definitely won't be waiting 59years for my next interstate game)

If that's the one I think it was, May was actually being held off the contest by a Crows player to allow Walker a free run at it.

Definitely the best game I've seen Petracca play since the opening rounds of the season. He's been slowly building over the last few weeks but his explosiveness looks to be back in full force and most of his disposals were either constructive or impactful. Likewise Langdon, who hasn't quite been at his best since his return to the side after he missed a week with injury.

Our defensive performance was unreal today. Aside from Walker in the first half, none of the Adelaide forwards threatened the scoreboard. I think I heard the commentators mention that we broke our own record for intercepts in one game and came close to knocking off the all time record. Hibberd took Rachele to school while Petty was one of our big winners in the air. Bowey also returned to some of his best form, operating at 86% disposal efficiency.

Really loving the season JJ is putting together. Has an incredible work ethic and always looks cool in a crisis. Love that he's starting to shrug tackles to get into a better position to dispose the ball. His body strength looks to have come a long way this season.

Also, Oliver is simply unbelievable.

@Kent do you recognise that structurally we had some important players out?

We had 9 scoring shots more than them and won by 29 points...

There is probably 2 reasons and an outcome there that may help you make sense of your question.

Also, every team is going to go their hardest against us - full concentration, no complacency.

How does not one reporter in the postgame ask for an eta or info on Jackson’s injury? Did we really need the question about Dawson? Asked about Max but nothing on Luke, useless!

That game was a case in point where coaches opine that the free kick count is not a factor in winning or losing the game.

But as a fan it’s impossible to agree with this. Yes it’s a hard game to umpire, but it should be consistent and fair.

This was a stressful one, ended up watching at the Duke of Wellington in the city. First game I've seen this year with the sound off, it's pretty enjoyable I must say.

We started off with a bang and I think we all would have loved to just cruise on through and have a nice relaxing arvo/evening. But the Crows had other ideas and really matched us for intensity for quite a lot of this game really. It was a real physical contest you could see the Crows really trying to get stuck in and, quite a lot of dirty play I thought after the ball had gone out of bounds and things like that. I detest talking about umpiring but this one is way too hard to overlook, 23 free kicks to 9 their way. I watched this one with the sound off so I couldn't really tell if it was a crowd influenced thing but the majority of the Crows frees were very 50-50 while it really did seem like we needed to have our heads ripped off to get anything from the umps. A lot of throws in this game missed as well from both sides, but yeah seeing it down the middle as much as possible I just thought this was a terror night for the umps but in spite of all that we showed what a great side we are and were able to grit it out and pull off an amazing result!

I thought Petracca really came to play today and his early goal really got the confidence up! Was getting sick to death of hearing about goal inaccuracy percentage this week so nice to see him hit the target. Thought his game overall was outstanding today, and quite often they had trouble laying a glove on him that's a 3 brownlow vote game.

We move on to Clarry, boy oh boy I'm so glad we have this guy for the next 8 years! I still marvel at how easily this guy gets his hands free. 11 tackles as well, this game was definitely won at the coalface and Clarry never fails to turn up with the miner's helmet. Thought Jack Viney was really important in the second half, Ed Langdon best game since he took that nasty hit to the ribs he was back to his running machine best and that goal was amazing at such a crucial time! Gus put in a good shift again, he's got so much confidence with the ball in flight now. Lever was excellent against some of his old friends, May had a much improved game this week I thought that back 6 had it's moments early on but they are starting to get back to what we know and love.

As I mentioned earlier, a real physical encounter and both sides looked totally gassed late in the game. Good to get the win but with that 5 day break I hope we can just bust on through, not sure how serious the Luke Jackson injury was I'd hope that he's an auto in. It's going to be a blockbuster down in Geelong and we really need to take a scalp in these next few games so come on the mighty Dees!

The majority of you can feel free to sook about the umpires.

Meanwhile all I can think about is getting  the 4 points without a recognised ruckman and watched 3 midfielders at the absolute top of their game.

Brilliant result tonight.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
