We are just not hungry enough happy to win 1 premiership they are not running hard enough they are not doing anything enough. The easy draw stuffed them up can’t handle the harder teams. I’d like to think that May will save the side but I think we have bigger problems we have too many premiership players content Sparrow has to be dropped for Dunstan. Spargo, and Nibbler should be looked at too. We have one chance to turn it around and that’s against Brisbane and if we can’t do it we will just be making up the numbers

I feel like this makes a very good argument for training loads. I’m sure people will see it differently, but does that not prove we don’t have the legs during this period?

Particularly because the first half scores for/against are almost the same between the first 10 and recent 3 rounds. Almost as though we're running out of legs, which erodes our skills and pressure. 🤔

My one concern here though is our low pressure rating this year compared to last was low prior to these recent 3 rounds. My feeling in our first 10 rounds was that we were not wrecking ourselves going hell for leather, rather we were doing what needed to be done to get the wins - that may correlate with lower pressure. If this is the case though we'd really want to see it stepping up from here towards Sept.

Let the nervus Nellie's and doomsayers come at us.

Let the odds drift a bit more from 3.50 you can now get.

And load up on us to win the flag.

A premiership team doesn't lose 3 in a row don't you know..

I tend to agree

Our fwd structure is terrible, pushing to high up and key fwds aren't in position to provide any options

And we clearly haven't trained to lead to position and naturally kick to that position  -  we just pause, wait for flood, and dump into the pocket

It doesn't work! Change it

This sums it up to a tee for mine.  We have the same forward line coach though GY 🤷‍♂️

Whats the difference.

Weid's young and at least has a chance of improving. M Brown is done, he's a VFL player, leave him at Casey.

I wouldn't be against the idea of throwing Daw into the mix, especially if Max is hurt. B Brown was at least a target today and had patches of being decent but he had no support. Fritta is nowhere to be seen right now.

To think we started the year lauding our depth to cover positions, our depth was MASSIVELY overrated.

Or we lose that game, find some form, bring it home at the end of the year and win the flag?

Its never as bad, or as good, as you think it is.

All you brilliant mensas who want to attack us for being negative, how can you sit there and say everything is going great. You're a bunch of ignorant fools who cant take a hint of criticism.

We have this complete fascination of having small forwards as subs.

One of the most bizarre coaching I've seen.

I have posted on this subject before.

Assuming everyone was fit a player like Joel Smith is the perfect sub.

Coaches seem to think of them merely as a set of fresh legs rather than how do I strategically manage the injury risk equation

Going forward I can see Turner in this role. When playing VFL he should play a quarter as a forward just to get an idea

Time for Picket to play closer to goal and thus be at the drop.

If not try Bedford which means ANB out probably.

I don't think anyone is saying "everything is going great", I think people are just generally advising that people should take a few deep breaths and relax before they type "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".

Lot of people gloating how we broke the Bulldogs and I hope we have but I think we have our own issues from the GF. It just feels like mentally we think our opposition will fold like the Dogs if we kick a few goals in a row and reality is that doesn’t happen very often particularly not if you don’t keep the pressure and work rate up.

We have so many issues right now it’s not funny. It just feels like the perfect storm of how things can turn ugly real quick. We were playing poorly before the Kangaroos but it’s felt like they physically beat us up, throw in some sort of loading and we look like where going up and down on the spot. Playing good sides who have all played well against us have all taken advantage of the situation. Key position players injured / suspension and severely out of form clearly making winning incredibly difficult. Role players like Harmes, ANB and Sparrow just making fundamental mistakes/ decisions that just holt momentum. Big name players like Petracca, Lever, Salem and Brown just not doing enough. Team first mentality seems to have fallen away and work rate and pressure have completely fallen away.

Right now the season is far from over but turning this around is going to be incredibly difficult, it absolutely can be done but not if we don’t adopt the team first attitude that we had last year.

Watching Dave Chappell and Ricky Gervais the last couple of hours has helped my very down mood considerably.

The break will do the players good.

Langdon not quite at his running best yet, and a week off to recover from that rib injury some more will help.

Trac still a bit flat after the flu

Niggles to Gawn and Petty

Lever rests his foot

These are the three losses we needed to have. And if we loose to the Bears . . . well it's the four losses we needed to have.

This thread is hilarious. Settle - it is not the end of the world, as much as some of you hope it is.

Nothing is that bad or that good in all this.

May back in makes us roughly a two goal better team defensively.  A great general/Quarterback and makes the others around stand taller and their jobs a tad easier.  A great intercept player and the team sets up further down the ground on his kick ins....making any losses/turnovers at those contests generally less damaging coming back in as they arent coming back in as deep as often.

Then there's Macca up forward as our only genuine contested beast who can out mark opponents in a pack and/or.get the ball to ground much of the time if he doesn't.

We have no replacement for Macca until/unless he returns and if he does.i doubt he'll be able to get back to the level he was prior to going down in time to inpact finals in a big way.  But you never know eh.

So the elephant in the room for the FD is .... how do we solve the Macca problem?  Maybe we can't and just need to go smaller up forward and do a Richmond pre-Lynch arriving ie; just Riewoldt surrounded by a bunch of smalls and one medium-small in Fritta?

I'm genuinely intrigued by this.  Because clearly a lot of ppl agree so I must be missing something.

My view is that we lost the game because we couldn't lower our eyes and find targets inside 50.  I'm not sure who we're bringing in to fix that?

Sure the Brown's are out of form / touch... but does anyone really think that Weid would do any better?  Really? And JVR has shown promise but in his first game, I don't think he could have done a heap better.

At the other end Disco comes in for his first match and does ok before going off.  Our defence is a rabble when we get caught on the turnover - but who's doesn't?  Who would have made a difference that is available?  Hunt?  Tomlinson?  They were blamed for our loss last week by many on here.  Rivers hasn't exactly been setting the world alight back there when played this year either.

There's a number of players performing below par the run through the middle / half forward.  Would Bedford / Chandler etc really have made a difference?  Really?  Dunstan to fix our forward connection?  I don't think so.

I honestly don't think it is personnel (obviously others disagree).  We seem very flat, tired, low on form, low on confidence, low on dare and like the opposition have worked us out.  Clearly a number of players are playing sore (Gawn, Petty etc) and a few don't seem the same since coming back from covid.  The bye has come at the right time for us to freshen up.

Maybe its time one of Salem / Brayshaw / Bowey goes to a wing to give us a bit more polish forward of centre?

The answer is that we arnt as good as the bath water they seem to drinking.

Nowhere near a champion team, not ever close....yet.

A great list with a promising future.

But Trac ain't Judd or Martin

Kossie runs around a lot with his tongue hanging out

Ollie and Max are champions, the rest need to get on board every week for four quarters

Don't want to hear about the concussion.

You could tell he was not ready before the concussion.

I felt he showed composure and did not seem overwhelmed.  I didn’t see the concussion …… what happened?

Not sure why we continue to turn off when we get a cushy lead. has happened 3 weeks in a row with no response. Really concerning

Do we turn off or are we just underdone off a late preseason?  Pity we couldn’t keep Burgess for one year post flag …. May have had a solution or at least a plan.

2 hours ago, Dee-monic said:

Steven May might have made a difference to the shambolic defence, but the connection going forward was again non-existent. A big question mark is also growing about the physical fitness of a team that is developing a habit of building useful leads, only to fade away dramatically under pressure. This never happened when Burgess was there. Given the tough draw ahead, a top-four spot is in real danger now.
