Incredibly Sportsbet have Demons @$1.25 and the filth @ $4.

Juicy odds on the filth. I suspect those odds will shorten.

100% need an in form Ben Brown for finals, even more so now with TMac likely out. That's my reasoning behind dropping him though, not as punishment, but as a way to find form. He's not finding it at AFL level atm.

BB hardly set the world on fire when he was playing at Casey

Don’t recall him ever kicking bags of goals consistently - he did get reported I guess that’s “form” of some sort

Think the knock on Tomlinson is unwarranted, he was asked to play the Steven May role once Petty was injured and he ain’t no Steven May, he is fine as the 3rd / 2nd tall imo if May is back next week and we wanted to try Petty up forward for example. Lever also should get some criticism for leaving Tomlinson out to dry when he is the senior player with May out, he needed to play a more negating role and be less attacking.

The most ridiculous thing I've ever read on demonland is armchair experts blaming our losses and other teams losses on loading. Spare me!

I'm not an expert by any means, but I would have thought our style flaws are relatively easily addressed. For example, let's focus on sticking tackles and handling the ball cleanly under pressure. Improvements in these two areas will go a long way to fixing our forward line woes.

Congratulations a voice of reason has emerged from the wilderness.

Easily missed amongst the sheer deluge of comment post ‘The Titanic’ striking an iceberg off Sydney Harbour.

Accompanied by a crescendo of gnashing of teeth, hand wringing, wrist slashing and lemmings jumping off a cliff complete with a matching band.

It’s not about messianic deliverance by inclusion of player ‘X’ or of player ‘Y’ returning from injury or protocols.

Its a team game, the talent and determination are there in spades. As the man says KISS applies.

Or maybe Petracca plays forward more, Hibberd plays Gus’s role and Gus plays in the middle. I believe we have options and versatility…just need to hope for no more injuries

I dont know SD.  Too many tweaks!

The FD make good $$ and get paid well.  I'll let them worry about it

My brain hurts thinking about it 😄

Lever looks lost at see playing anything other than the spare across HB.

He also looks a fair way from being fully match fit.  Was it Lever they took aside last season to do a mini mid season 'pre-season' as he missed most of the actual pre-season due to the knee recovery?

Given enough time/match practice, Lever might find his mojo at some stage but right now he's actually causing us a few headaches / clanger turnovers and goals from those turnovers.  Just hasn't been able to get on the pace so far.

As highlighted on 360 tonight, the oppo appear to be targeting his opponent big time when coming inside 50 as they know he'll probably be pretty loose and unlikely to man up much of the time.

May returning should help here but he still looks a fair way off his 2021 match hardness / best form.

For us to fully fire this season we need him to get back to his best.  In Goody we trust!

Backline... Rest Petty.. May in

Consider Hibberd for Hunt but probably not

Mids.. no change

Forwards: BBB and M Brown ( be ready for a bigger change post bye)

Exactly. So many easy fixes.

When we regain our form, and the media talk diverts back to “will the Dees lose another game this year” the demonland posters who have [censored] the bed in the last 2 weeks, should be banned from jumping back on board the train that is destined for back to back.

As you (and others) keep on saying. Though still without providing any actual evidence.

I think our small defenders will be tested this week. Hibberd and Rivers are good lock down defenders and both come in this week. Hunt goes out, Salem to play Half forward.

Having Steven May back will help with general organisation.

Forwarline needs another look. Might be worth going smaller. I’d drop Mitch Brown for Bedford. Having he and Salem will help with pressure, ball use and connection.

I would like to see midfielders more accountable on defence. We also need to use the corridor more, with quicker movement. Last week was slow and safe and the forwards never had a chance.

Lever isn't anywhere near what he was last year, with or without May.

His intercept game is well down and it looks like other teams are making him accountable so he can't go and help others.

So, not sure the leaving Tomlinson out to dry criticism is fair as Sydney did a brilliant job of isolating him and other defenders so they couldn't help each other.

It is a tactic that will be tried again.  We need to find ways to negate it.

Why all the grief on here,we are sitting 10 wins 2 loses i will take that any time any year

Please elaborate on your last point.  Both Browns out for whom?

And why can’t we try the same tactic instead of all our forwards going for the same ball?  Lack of discipline?  Forgetting the successful self sacrifice tactic of 2021?

I think it’s 1 win 2 losses v top 8 teams.

9 wins vs teams 9-18.

We need to big 2nd half to remain on top.  17-5 is the minimum goal right now.

Interesting from the weekend:

Max Gawn played 112 out of 115 minutes. All but basically 3 minutes.

Luke Jackson played 74 out of 115 minutes

Mitch Brown 95 out of 115

Ben Brown 78 of 115.

I think we are about to see Max play a hell of a lot more forward.

They did so on the back of their smart, quick and incisive ball movement. Which we couldn't stop becuase we re not spreading as hard as we do when cherry ripe.

We score the same way way, albeit with less precision ball movement and more swarm, and when on also create one on ones and lots of free players inside our 50.

Not trying to make him the whipping boy again but just wondering if Bedford for Nibbler could be an option. Bedford is quick and exciting, give him the pressure man role and throw this challenge down to get him in as a permanent fixture.

May for Petty seems the obvious choice, Petty must be so sore he’s hanging out for the bye so give him this time to recover from his ranging issues.

As much as both Brown’s were absolutely useless I would prefer we persist with a team two weeks in a row. BBB needs a rocket up his [censored] though.

What evidence do you want?

A coach or player coming out and saying they are loading?

Well that's not going to happen.

The evidence is right there in front of our eyes, and for the second straight season, at the same stage -

  • uncharacteristic fumbles and poor decision making
  • opposition suddenly able to move the ball quickly through the corridor
  • trouble shouting down switches and therefore trouble stopping oppo transition out of our forward half
  • clearly fatigued players
  • less 'swarm' and multiple players running in waves,
  • an inability to create goals with swarm and run,
  • opposition having too many one on ones in their forward half
  • uncharacteristically giving up contested marks, etc etc

What is your explanation for the totality of those issues?

What wrong with playing Dogga as a forward and Daws in the ruck with Gawn.

Not the worst idea going around,

I think a more likely scenario might be Max to be used further at deep Forward and Majak to share ruck duties with Dogga. I beleive Majaks ruck work is pretty good. If Petty is not right Tomlinson gets a lucky reprieve and of course May comes back. I thought Jayden Hunts one on ones was very average. Pig might be a chance, Sparrow has been good but was of the pace Saturday. I thought Mitch Brown did some useful things Saturday and should stay. A big NO to Weideman, as a forward, but could he cover Tomlinsons role down back? BBB is still pivotal to any serioius September action if Plugger Mac is cactus!

Tomlinson should be given more than one game. It's a big step up, some players need more time to adjust.

Also, May being back makes everyone else better.

Collingwood are a good team that will pounce on mistakes as Sydney did.

I still can’t get my head around the 0 goals from turnover; its more than half our score most weeks.

What does it tell me?

We created less turnovers we could exploit in the forward half, and we also turned the ball over when we did get clean intercepts.

So bring the pressure rating back up and we slip back up a few gears everywhere else.

Suddenly Brown is one out, Fritsch has room, and Kozzie more freedom.

Has it been confirmed that May will be back? Concussions aren't always resolved with one week's rest, after all.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
