Viney Hamstring Soreness

Featured Replies

Jack Viney has hamstring soreness and has been replaced by Luke Dunston. Chance for the ex saint to show his colours.

That’s another big out hopefully Dunstan and Sparrow can step up to fill the void.!!!!

That's a massive blow we will only win by 190 points now.

I was somewhat surprised when Melksham got the nod over Dunstan to replace Harmes.  I have to wounder if Viney missing was the plan all along and/or if they were playing some game with Dunstan to keep him hungry?

I'm not trying to diminish Melksham as a player, because I do somewhat rate him, based on past performances, but it really did seem like Dunstan was the more obvious choice to replace Harmes from the start, based on current form.  All very strange.  The only other thing I could think of is that perhaps Melksham plays a more similar role for the team as Harmes, being a talented distributor inside 50 by foot as compared to Dunstan.

Does make complete sense to rest Viney if he's not quite right though.  Too important of a player to risk injury wise and even if it sends a message to North that we don't rate them (which should be fairly apparent regardless), I think we're so much better off preserving Jack for later in the season.

Looking forward to seeing what Melksham and Dunstan can do with their oppertunity.

Essential finals player , good call.

Fun (useless?) fact ...

There are 2 hamstrings in each leg. Years ago I had one hamstrung removed to be used as part of a shoulder reconstruction.

On your first paragraph, you are way overthinking it. The most simple explanation is Melksham is the player most suited to the role Harmes plays, and Dunstan is the player most suited to the role Viney plays.

I reckon as fans, we try to make selection out to be way more complicated than it is. Selectors making last minute announcements to “keep a player hungry” is surely not a thing.

Jordan named at Back flank

Sparrow on the wing

Does that mean Gus will get a run in the middle

Give him a couple runs in the middle and lock down the contract extention

Provided he’s good to go next week I don’t mind this at all. Second time he has missed this season and we have bye in round 14. Think Jack is a player that benefits from a break every so often. Stops that foot injury from flaring up and keeps him fresh.

Wouldn't think so. Goody doesn't really bother with positions on the team sheet.

Yeah, I agree with you on both points Nasher.  It did occur to me that playing this kind of mind games wasn't really in the Goodwin straight talking, honest, open and respectful  communication play book.

There are 3 hamstrings in each leg. But more to your point, that’s some serious surgery.

A bit of a concern for the Freo game you’d imagine.

I would be thinking just “let’s no

risk hm given a big one next week”

I call five and now have the current highest bid.

I love a good footy fact, and that's a beauty. Who knew? I mean, apart from medicos.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
