That’s true, but who else would make way? Jordon’s doing really well on a wing IMO, and I reckon Brayshaw’s now really settled in defence.

Quite true and I don't know the answer, other than to say, that it's a good problem to have.

'No Dusty, no Richmond'.

We will never know if they had won 3 flags without him.  They probably would have won in 2017 and 2019 as Adelaide and GWS didn't show up.  In 2020 Dusty stopped Geelong in their tracks after half time doing what only Dusty does.  So that is a maybe but tbh I would rather Richmond win it than Geelong.

They have been poor without him in 2021 and 2022.

Martin dragged their arzes from the flames so often it wasn't funny including a few finals.
Watched a highlight clip of his the other night.
One of the very best to have played the game.

I'll say everybody contributed tonight and we got a comprehensive win because of it.

I've been critical of Harmes in the past but his start to this year has been fantastic, well done Harmesy.

Weid competed well tonight and i am glad he got his goal.

Rivers, Jordon, Sparrow and Hunt had some real good moments when you could excuse them taking a breather and not push that extra yard which is fantastic because we have players on the comeback trail who are as talented and hungry.

No accident that May plays his best game for the year the day that Petty comes back in.

I was one that felt that Tomlinson had earned the right to his spot until he played poorly, but I put my hand up and say I was wrong. Petty was absolutely outstanding, hadn’t missed a beat and slotted straight back in with ease.

Without Martin they wouldn’t have made finals in 2017!

GWS year they win, still amazing the Pies lost Pf to GWS in 2019!

No Dusty cats win 2020 flag!

Spargo was electric. Great vision and execution around the ground. And he looked fired up. Great to see, the pieces are coming back together.

Always find a player with his kicks and makes it easy for them.

LOL.  I was tempted to mention that Umpy, too.  Was the one who disallowed Trac's great goal.  To avoid the sexist tag, I was gonna simply refer to "the umpy with the high voice..."  Made several terrible calls against us.

Not sexist at all. She’s has no clue about how the game is played. By her rationale anyone taking a spekkie could be pinged for “in the back.”

These were our best players according to 'The Age'.

Looks like we have another midfield god to accompany Gawn, Petracca and Oliver.

BEST
Melbourne: Petracca, May, Oliver, Pickett, Fritsch, Gawn, Hermes.

Just like their namesake, they both were very capable in multiple roles. I'm sure Harems would enjoy the name tangle. and comparison. Wonder if he would also appreciate the statuesque representation? :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermes

Yes there were a few errors - but she made some good calls too - including Langdon's blatant push. Rather a courageous call. Trac would be a bit cheesed off at Langers rather than the ump for that one after he saw the replay. To be honest, I was a bit more concerned with the 50 metre interpretations of the other ump  rather than her performance which I thought was Ok overall despite some errors. On most occasions she  gave very very clear explanations and instructions. Thats my take on it.

Weid had a season best game according to champion data's ratings

Very interesting that his 4 goal game would have ranked lower

The Langdon push on Petracca's goal was 100% the correct decision.

If he is embarrassed by it, would that journalist be his shamerI do love a good anagram!

Another great game to watch I felt that we were playing well enough to win but nothing to get us up on our feet apart from the goals and great defence. We were baffled by the umpires decisions or lack there of no feel for the game and becoming hedonistic. AFL need to take action to remedy this BS. Then third quarter starts and the boys move up to third and fourth gear really exploited GWS weaknesses and kicked 10 fabulous goals for the quarter each one by a different player. Team work was sublime, then in the last content to slow the game down again and maintain our lead.

So enjoyable to watch and be at the ground only 20K but very loud supporters. Go Dees.!!!!

Watching on replay, was a shocker!
2nd qtr Coniglio free and fifty, and Hogan free where Petty punches ball only we’re very ordinary.

Still ignore the umpires!

Demons were electric in the third, just so fast and connected, the ball movement is fantastic.

After just over 50 years of significant misery, this team is playing terrific football!

I agree Petty was very good. Great to see him back.  Stats don’t backup his value to command the back half alongside May and Lever.  Whilst he’s still young, he also calls out to others to cover space.  His spoils and physical contests immobilized the Giants forwards.  Great to have him signed up longer term to 2025

Neither hold a candle to Brown, so one must go.  But I wondered if Goodwin was pumping up Weid's tyres to soften the blow of not picking him next week. We shall see.

Agree that one must go and BBB will come in. But the thing is that we still need another tall to be playing well( better than Tmac or Weid currently are).
I think this is where our biggest improvement has still to be made. Very confident BBB will come in and play at a very high level but we will go to another level if Tmac could regain his early season form from last year. Or if not him Weid/JVR or M. Brown.
If we can do that and keep a healthy list we will go back to back

Jacko/Gawn have both stepped up when resting fwd vs last year. So there is less reliance on the TMac role, as much as it would be nice to see him or Weid step up.

Such a bloody good game last night - a joy to watch our great team go to work 😍

That’s a fair point, but having either of Tmac or Weid in better form would still be massive for us. Even if it’s pushing further up the park to link up and create spaces.
Weid did take a couple of his marks closer to the middle last night. I’m probably leaning more to keeping him in and giving him a few games with BBB.

He oozes leadership in my opinion. One of our brightest young players. He was excellent all night

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
