The issue is not just the dropping of the marks, but what happens after he drops or spills them. 

My concern is that a) he often falls over and is not a factor in the subsequent contest

b) the leads he makes have little penetration, pace or intensity thus doesn’t split the pack open (to be fair, he isn’t built like a Dermie or Jonathan Brown)

c) he can often drop marks one out in good position. I get that in a pack you are going to mark maybe 20 to 30% of the time, but in the situation I mentioned, a good forward should snaffle them more often than not (see Brown, B.)

d) when the ball hits the deck after spillage, he is a non factor and this is the difference between him and Dogga in particular. I saw at least two times where he was going half pace after the ball hit the deck: casually jogging when he should have been putting physical heat on. 

To give Weed some slack, Dogga’s agility and pace reminds me of a 2003-2006 era Adam Goodes. Don’t be surprised as he matures if they throw him on a wing. But when you see BBB, a bloke who could be mistaken for a praying mantis in footballer form at times, getting in there after a spill, getting hands in, tackling and harassing, then you’ll understand why Weed mightn’t be getting much love.

For me it was an amazingly balanced performance where every time we moved forward we looked clinical and we executed.

The most telling was May. But for a different reason than most. It was May v Hogan and the trade that set this “potential” dynasty up. What an amazingly good result for us Demons that continues to deliver!

Fraction of a toe?  It was flush on his boot. Surely DS you are not calling for umpires to make a decision based on whether they think the ball was deliberately dropped onto the foot or 'falls out of his hands'.    We don't need another new area for "insufficient intent" decisions.

I think umpire 34 had another shocker. She umpired at Dees v Suns and was so biased against the Dees , not only giving wrong decisions and inconsistent decisions all night.  Lucky the players can’t complain.  I support the diversity but need to call out the poor sub standard umpiring.

None.  It was a rubbish analysis by Lyon who commonly backed the Dees oppositon last year as if he couldn't believe or accept the rise of MFC and not taking into acount of the Dees match day system .

Goody has the eyes and ears up in the box of Yze, Chaplin  etc looking over the ground and constantly in Goody's ear.

The best coaches are doing it for some time - think Fagan for example.

A highlight for me was our accuracy in front of goal. You rarely see a score like 19.6.120 but the way this teams plays it wouldn’t surprise if it becomes a pattern or a feature of our game going forward.

Just as we did tonight - we won by 10 plus goals tonight after all (and in the back end of last season).

But plenty of scrappy wins too

The last dominant team was the 2017 to 2020 tigers.

Dominant in the sense that there was a big gap back to the chasing pack.

They had tones of low margin victories in that period. Rarely thrashed teams. 

Ironically their most consistent big wins came in 2018, when they were as far ahead of the next best as we are now. 19-3 I think.

And they got knocked out in the prelim by big cox.

The hawks were the previous dominant team.

They probably had more big victories in their dominant period, but still plenty of 'professional' 4-5 goal wins pulling up.

The previous dominant team was the lions - and they did hammer plenty of teams.

But that is a generation ago in footy terms. A different game now.

And I disagree we are happy to cruise.

We look to dominate.

So many good performers. I loved Vineys game, thought he was a crucial cog at stoppages as GWS were giving it a red hot crack, particularly in the first half. Jack simply wouldnt let them get on top after the first.

Sadly the Weid hasn't turned up the past two weeks after a promising performance vs the bombers.

As for the crowd, 7 news headline this morning said 20% of Australians are interstate/overseas this weekend. I am in Melbourne from the UK, went to the bombers game, couldnt bring myself to go last night for what looked on paper a routine win. Taking two four year olds with a big family day today, keeping them up till 11pm last night is not really an option - im surely im not the only one in the same boat who chose to watch on tv instead. Call me fair weather after years of 3am alarms to see us get belted (and plenty of $$ put into the club) all you like

What, regardless of the fact we:

• invented the game,
• created the MCG,
• are the longest, continually registered, professional sporting club on the planet,
• have won the fourth most premierships in the competition's history,
• put onto the ground some of the greatest players and coaches in the game's history (including the coach of the 20th century) and
• have had to play against the umpires as well as the opposition's 18 players, for the last 58 years.

It really depends on how one defines dominant really. I love being a Deez supporter. When supporters of the supposedly 'dominant' clubs get stuck into us, I simply suggest they send my a card on Thanks Giving day.

I thought Hunt turned on his B+ game last night.  Not quite back to his best, but was running through lines a bit better and taking the game on with his dash a bit.  His delivery was much better and I didn't notice any sprayed turnovers or shanks out on the full. 

I'm guessing the added run goes together hand in glove with better kicking, the later giving confidence in the former.  I also don't think it's any coincidence that this uplift in perfornance has occurred with the return  of all our A team key defenders of May, Lever and Petty.

He’s got a big month ahead of him as someone is going to have to make way for Salem. Hunt’s spot makes the most sense right now.
