Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

no injuries or suspensions please.

Used to like the VFL but the comp is now so lopsided you have to wonder

Here's the ladder (only round 3 and already some teams have had byes)

https://www.livesport.com/au/afl/australia/vfl/standings/

Better get used to byes - Gillian seems determined to inflict this further inequity as his parting gesture. 😡😡

21 teams is ridiculous in this expanded VFL.

Plus it should technically only be Victorian sides.

I am ok with 18 teams in the VFL but mine would be the following:

1) Casey Demons

2) Box Hill Hawks

3) Coburg Lions

4) Collingwood Magpies

5) Essendon Bombers

6) Footscray Bulldogs

7) Frankston Dolphins

8) Geelong Cats

9) North Melbourne Kangaroos

10) Port Melbourne Borough

11) Richmond Tigers

12) Sandringham Zebras

13) Werribee Tigers

14) Williamstown Seagulls

15) Carlton Blues

16) St. Kilda Saints

17) Preston Bullants (prefer them to keep their old name rather the Northern Bullants)

18) North Ballarat Roosters

We should also look to develop a 2nd tier VFA competition (with all the old VFA clubs) with different divisions and if a team is good enough in the VFA and win enough Premierships they can eventually be promoted to the VFL. Anyway, it is merely a suggestion. I just want to see strategies put in place to develop and grow grassroots football.

Good to see an article about one of the Casey listed players on the MFC site.

Driving the standards – Ellison’s unique journey is only starting

He’s starting to look like a very handy late bloomer.

Also mentions Matt Buntine as a team leader but we’ve yet to sight him wearing the colours. Presume he’s injured but I haven’t seen any reports on why he’s been out.

Has anyone seen the justification for the inclusion of the Southport Sharks etc.

I hate it as well. As far as I'm aware it was all done to give Swans, Giants, Lions and Suns reasonable competition and the NEAFL wasn't financially sustainable. Especially after the effects of COVID and another competition needing to be proped up. Southport I think decided to join the expanded VFL as they didn't want to go back to the QAFL given they've dominated it for so long.

I get the AFL wanting the Northern states to have better reserves competition, but don't see why it should have all fallen on the VFL.

Personally I reckon you could have had Swans and Giants join the VFL along with a team from Tasmania and Canberra for a 20 team comp. Play 21 rounds with one bye each and only one team you play twice. Rename it the SEAFL (South East Australia Football League).

Lions and Suns should have joined the SANFL along with a team from the NT. Get a 13 team competition played over 22 rounds with two byes each. Rename it SANAFL (South Australia Northern Australia Football League). That way you have three major reserves/secondary competitions that cover every state and territory, creating a pathway for all in their home states.

Gil is on his way out of the tent with a little luck the new person ( almost typed man ) will see junior leagues and the vfl as an area that needs a lot of work and improvement.

Southport Sharks!!... you may as well have Manangatang East Ressies

The Sharks are a particularly strong side from a particularly strong club .JacobTownsend,Jacob Dawson Aidan Fyfe ,Billy Gowers and Boyd Woodcock were all AFL players last season .The Sharks even recruited our Jay Lockhart and Zac Foot. They are cut above The likes of Coburg Preston Willy and will help list the standard of the VFL.A shame Aspley handed back its licence as they would have been good also.

Would be interested to find out if Howes is being rested or if he’s this week’s mystery injury?

Also what’s the story with Matt Buntine who is Casey’s #1 recruit for 2022?

Not against this idea.

I just think each state should have their own independent football league to grow and develop grassroots football.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
