Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No better sight in footy than a torp goal on the siren. The friendly exchange between ump and Riewoldt beforehand just adds to the theatre. Suffer Dogs.

A couple of things. Doggies are on the brink. They need to pull consecutive  wins in the next 2-3 weeks otherwise finals will be a lost hope.

Also the hype on JUH in retrospect was over the top. I get that it’s year 2 only (year 1 in afl) but you would expect to have seen 1/4 or half of footy by now where you say yup, gonna be a star. Not saying he isn’t going to be a good player but star quality is looking less likely every time I watch him play.

Imagine for a moment if Kozzy can develop a similar game to Shai. Definitely got the skills , mobility and dynamic aspect but probably lacking some confidence and endurance. Got to run him more through the middle I think. Would love the coaches to try and develop him in the same capacity.

Agree on all 3 points @CYB - JUH looked deflated and lost out there - I’m sure he’ll work his way into the AFL, but talk of him being the next Buddy Franklin looks off the mark at the moment.

Shai Bolton is fantastic - I was thinking the same re Kozzy: he has the smarts, skill and toughness to be as good as Bolton: something to aspire to.

Dogs look in real trouble. 1.2 million disposals between their star midfielders, won clearances, contested possessions and inside 50s (and of course the free kick count), but lost by 6 goals.

They can't win when their midfield is beaten, now they can't win even when their midfield is on top.

Having said all that, they've had the hardest fixture to date by far (us, Carlton, Sydney and Richmond - a combined record of 12-3 with Carlton's game tomorrow to come).

Yep. Umpiring was disgraceful and quite obviously bias to Fremantle. But GWS just dropped their head after the bad calls. And good clubs don’t do that. We get worse calls than anyone by the umpiring, we are consistently on the receiving end of terrible umpiring, yet we always wrestle back the momentum, as good teams do. GWS aren’t a good team. They look to me like a team with ridiculous talent, but no one has taught them to play to a structure. Their midfielders are out chasing kicks, and bombing it in the forward line without a care. I suspect Clarkson will take a good look at GWS and probably put his hand up for the job. The list is there.

Surely someone at AFL must have data for home ground free differentials, and particularly at Perth and Adelaide, and of course Geelong.  Further analysis will show which umpires "favour" the home teams and which are more even handed.

IF they had an ounce of integrity (and I realise that is a huge IF) then they would use these data to ensure that the biased / weak / intimidated umpires do not umpire at those venues.  OF course this will never happen, as integrity is paid lip service in favour of the highest bider.

Regards your final point, Yes, the list is there largely thanks to unconscionable AFL concessions in an attempt to justify their decision to enter Western Sydney, but the heart does not appear to be.  Yes, players say that they love playing and living there, but can anyone really think that they would say that if they were free agents and not paid above what they would get in Melbourne?

Could Clarkson's charisma transplant heart into a mob of very talented individuals?

From my understanding not one of them live anywhere near western Sydney where they’re meant to be growing the game in Bankstown etc - when gw$ started up they were nearly all housed together in Canada bay, and unsurprisingly a lot live in nice inner west locales like Balmain, Rozelle etc

they are a soulless franchise that are simply there to add value to the broadcast rights agreement

In saying all that I am of course worried about facing  them next week due to residual MFCSS 😈

I don’t disagree with that assessment but how insane is the hype/pressure on these kids.  The media had gone mental with the hype on JUH before he’d even played a senior game. They have no time to develop.

MRO will probably say:  Accidental, Low Impact, High = Fine at most.

Preuss would say he didn't know where the player was behind him and the strike was part of his momentum while spinning around.

Don't agree with it but suspect he will play next week.

A goal fest at Marvel in the first half.

Neither Ess nor Crows showing much sign of defence or pressure.

Both teams waltzing it out of the middle or end to end.

Lucifer - sadly I think your prediction is spot on. They won’t let GW$ play without a ruckman …… now if it was someone in different color, say red and blue, or red, white and black, maybe blue and white vertical stripes then it would be “we must stamp this out and the head is sacrosanct this week - 4 to 6 weeks.”

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
