We need BBB and Tom to regain form this year, until we can get other options for the big body, key forward role.

 

Loved the one hander off Gawn's hands. A 'Van Gawnen' mark!

He picked his moment beautifully last night.  I don't see the Schwarz comparison.  Schwarter had tremendous agility pre knee.  Some of his blind turns (1994 finals) were out of this world for a guy of his size.  A thumping kick, great field kick, and a clean one grab mark.  JVR strikes me more as a young Dermie.  In the early stages of his career he was very much a cameo player - a great 15 or 20 minutes here and there but absolutely loved the big occasion.  He debuted in the 1982 finals but it wasn't until the 1985 season when he started to play really consistent footy. He hit bodies hard even as a youngster and like JVR was marginally undersized compared to opponents but played a bit taller.  JVR loves the physical aspect of the game, he doesn't waste the opportunities he gets and he impacts at important times.

It may only be me but I kind of saw Fritsch helping him by blocking the Tiger defenders, which gave JVR more time and space to prepare his mark.

We ideally need another tall as you say to play that link role (our game tends to breakdown onnthe slower plays without it) and leave Fritsch as a dangerous proposition on the 3rd or 4th best defender, but until Jefferson has more build and tank, and until TMac and BB are in form, we're probably better going with this set up.

Reminds me of Charlie Curnow. Less springy maybe, but good in the air, great follow up work on the ground. Give him a partner like Curnow has, and even Max could do for the moment, who draws the defenders, leaving the opposition not knowing who to put their time into, and possibly giving JVR the second best defender and we're away.

He could very easily kick 30-40 goals this year, which would be an incredible return for a second year (first year) KPF.

I would get Brown in there so fast. Injuries aside - his form was fine.

Last night a tiger fan next to me made fun of JvR ‘throwing a hissy fit’, had a wry smile when JvR made them leave the game early 

He’s not Schwartz but who is?

He’s his own thing - stilted but effective kick, strong body who likes aerial contact and doesn’t mind driving through a pack to take a mark. 

It’s really promising.

How good we finally have a good young key forward to get excited about after watching the King brothers and Makay and Curnow come on as young kids hopefully Jefferson can get there too 

Some players start their career and you just know they’ll be a player. he just has it. Perfect temperament and loves the physical stuff. 

Ben Brown, JVR and Fritsch will be a perfect mix.

On Monday night the boy became a man in the last quarter were he thru caution to the wind and went for it.

I believe he will gain a lot of confidence from this performance, but he has still a work in progress.

Set shots have greatly improved this year since choco took over goal kicking coaching. 

JvR has a mean streak. Watch how he disposes of toiges no 15 after his last mark. One handed toss and then gets on with the job.

Loved his development so far, he is feeling he deserves to be there.  Building that confidence in him is evident in the team reaction when he gets a goal.  Maybe they realised that's where they went wrong with Weid?

What I would like to see is his last qtr success in either the first or second.  His multiples have not come until after the game has opened up in the last qtr.  Maybe the club will look at some structural tweaks over the next few weeks to allow that earlier.  

He's tracking int he right direction.

He did some good work getting balls to the ground earlier (no stats), and once they allowed him to lead instead of bombing it on his head he became far more dangerous.

Always going to be a task without Jackson, Weed, Tommy and Brown.

Agree but his jumping in the last quarter was not just jump and Hope ( as some of his attempts have been in the previous three games) 

This was some skilled marking process admittedly no Weitering,  Wilkie or Moore in the vicinity.

BUT his judgement of the ball in each marking occasion was perfect and he second grabbed brilliantly as well. 

Can't help feeling there is a recycled Jack Watts in his body waiting to come out and play and an almost star in a Jesse Hogan clone whose next disaster is just around the corner. 

"Rooy" for his youth has a lot going for himself including fearless physicality, plus a huge mentality upside and a total desire to be the one in the pack that gets/marks the ball. His mind seems perfectly at ease in his environment, anywhere in the 50m arc  where he can line up and score. 

And his greatest asset above all might well be I believe is his effect on the team, opponents and the crowd when he marks. It's not just an ordinary mark it's a 7.5 to 10 in style skill and achievement.  It will have great positivity to his teammates, us in the crowd and be a real weapon and promote feel good vibes everywhere. Bring it on Jacob!!

Very similar feeling to when Hogan burst onto the scene back in 2015. Would love JVR to kick 40+ like Hogan did back then in his first year.

JVR's leap and mark reminded me of Naughton. When he gets a clear run and jump at it, he launches and collects it in front while laying waste to the bodies in his path. Very exciting!

JVR is nothing like Jack Watts.

JVR is exceptional at pack marking. We saw it at Casey and we are seeing it now at senior level.

Next step is for him to work on his leading patterns so he can take those 'easier' chest marks. That is easier to teach than contested marking anyway, but it's definitely the next part of his game he needs to get better at. Which he will with more time in the forwardline and working together with the other forwards.
