I don't believe the hype either and I don't agree with the purported salary he's either seeking or been offered.

I certainly don't believe in the 'generational player' that gets labelled at LJ.

Carey was an example of a generational player. At the same age as LJ (21st year) he won a B&F, kicked 46 goals and polled 14 brownlow votes in 1992. In the following year he was captain of the All Aust side, kicked 63 goals and was arguably the best player in the league.

Aside from a rising star award (great but Lewis Taylor also won one) and a good but not amazing quarter in a grand final, what has he achieved to be warranting such a big pay day? What trajectory is he on to warrant such a big pay day?

Do Freo honestly think LJ is going to have the influence of a Carey or a Buddy over the next 1-4 years?

He's not gone yet although  things are starting to look rather bleak. Mathew Lloyd thinks he might be gone and Lloyd is one of the few in the media who have a clue. Ross Lyon appears almost brain dead and Eddie can't shut up about how the AFL is against them and Ginnivan. Vomitous stuff.

If LJ is going for the Freo cash bags i dont want him in the side anymore.

Give us an example where an existing top 5 player at a club was traded to acquire a player from another club?

And don't include Josh Kennedy or Crisp, as they hadn't established themselves.

I want another flag and LJ can help, so whether he stays or goes, want him part of 2022flag.

If he goes, it will be for a life changing deal! Simply up to Demons to get best deal possible, and hopefully is two firsts and a decent player! 
 

Would be great to get this out of way and also Brayshaw. Ideally both stay, but what will be will be!

Isn't Grundy on a long term contract ? Doesn't seem to prevent speculation about him being traded - if the player and club agrees to a trade contract status would be secondary wouldn't it?

Serong extended in 2020 till the end of next year. If he signalled an interest to come back to Vic, his existing contract is no barrier. Young’s deal expires at the end of ‘27 (basically till free agency).

• Tom Boyd.  Was ostracised by Bulldog team mates.  Suffered from depression.  Retired from AFL after just a few years with a premiership medal and almost a NSM but disillusioned.

I truly hope Jackson has the maturity to deal with the attitude of Freo fans when he has a few poor games and of team mates if they have to take a lower contact to accommodate him.   

Freo fans will be brutal if he doesn't live up to the hype.

Totally different scenario. Grundy's contract is an albatross around the Pies neck, and they have a cheaper almost better version in Darcy Cameron.

The Freo boys are playing good footy and not on ridiculous money.

Agreed! It’s an exceptional circumstance where a 20 year old ruck is being offered over $1 mil a year. Therefore it’s not unreasonable to expect the trade details to be similarly exceptional.

Yep, Freo would have a bunch of untouchables but i'm sure they would have some players on long term deals that they may be willing to offer to get LJ on board (if they want him that bad). Need to ask the questions to get the answers (even if it appears unlikely)

There are no two scenarios that are the same in trading 

My point was simple - if a player and club mutually agree to a trade it can happen - your comment implied the long term contract in itself was a blocker - it isn't

Of course contracted players have been traded in the past. But Collingwood are better off by getting rid of Grundy and his contract. Freo are worse by off loading any of Brayshaw, Serong or Young. That's why your Grundy analogy is irrelevant.

You need to ask the question to the players manager before you ask Freo. If the player doesn't want to go, and Freo don't want to lose them, end of story.

DD - if you feel Petty is a better forward than defender, then we have a superstar forward on our list.  Time will tell I guess.
