This thread gets more absurd every week.

We now have a rumour  'from a mate'  that Jackson bought a house for his mother. Why?  are his parents homeless?

How much does Jacko earn as a young rookie?

Would Gawn allow him to play for us if he was jumping ship. We play Freo in Perth in 11 days.

It just got even more absurd..

Looks likely I'll have to change my name again.

Is there anyone we definitely don't want playing for us? I'll just change it to that.

Ps. last name was based on Dom Tyson....

Just for fun, I looked at the run home for North and Eagles to see who might get the wooden spoon.

Looks like it will be Eagles.😐

So no running Jackson into the preseason draft and expect North to pick him first up.

With all this talk of 198cm Bliclavs taking out Petracca & Cripps in successive weeks. I was thinking perhaps if we meet Geelong again, we can try a tactical shift of the 199cm ruck rover Dogga on Bliclavs, Gawn in ruck, Viney/Oliver in tight. Petracca up forward. If TMAC can get back then it won't make us deficient for size up forward either.

I totally agree JD. I’m not sure we can beat Geelong unless we do something different like you suggest. I’d love to see Goody get creative like trying Jackson as a big midfielder which then allows us to bring in another dedicated tall forward such as JVR or Weideman or Petty.

Wrong far too low. Remember a First around No3 Draft Pick who won the Rising Star  and turned games in his first season inc. the Grand Final. Have you forgotten last year.

Is  a Premiership player and ability at his age is far in advance log other 20yo ruck recruits.

Although  he has not had quite the impact this year he has had a solid season and by his nature contributes to the team as a whole,

Still the best 20 yo ruck now and potentially also forward.

Deserve a Top 10 pick say 8-10 at least.as compensation plus a player Logue would be my choice for his versatility and key position attributes.

We were discussing Lobbs value, not Luke's!

Looks 50/50 to me, Luci.

They both play Crows and Suns, so those two games cancel out.  Of the other three games, I wouldn't expect either North or West Coast to win any of them so it might just come down to percentage in the end.

It's your classic "race to the bottom" scenario with North finishing last the better result for us.

Our club is run by very astute people. There’s no way they are going to let that happen. They will speak to Luke and tell him if he wants to go home they will absolutely do the right thing by him, as long as he makes it clear he’ll do the same and sign a one year contract if his club of choice doesn’t offer his value. All of a sudden the onus is on the club that wants him to not act like terrible people, and to appropriately value him. If they don’t do that they have far more to lose than to gain. A lot can happen in a year. Just ask Tom Papley.

..and would he want to be playing for that team under those circumstances, I think not.

West Coast having the 1st pick in the psd might actually help by incentivising freo to bring us the best possible deal or risk losing him to their cross town rival.

Nah all good - just find a Mark Jacko Jackson or a tricky Ricky Jackson photo to use as an avatar!!

No disrespect but please dont use Kozy or Pickett in any future change of names.

It was very notable how big they were against us. Breaking tackles and making them stick. Anyway, Let's hope this topic becomes irrelevant and they choke a prelim to Sydney or Freo! (And we cruise past Bris/Carl provided we lock up top 4)

*I refuse to acknowledge Collingwood exist

That has been pretty common knowledge for a few weeks now - Lobb to the Dogs that is.

Great, so how do Freo satisfy us? This has been the missing piece in the media conjecture the whole time. He isn’t going for free.

exactly......the media has consistently avoided discussing how freo can get the trade done, when it is blatantly obvious they don't have the picks. even fitting him in under the salary cap with the figures being thrown around is problematic. but the only "story" from our "expert" correspondents is just that he is going......cos that gets the clicks

except the goose hutchie of course, who says just got to the nd and meth-coast

If Jacko goes, Rendell on SEN suggesting we end up with Grundy and a high pick.

Pies to pay say $200K of his $900k for next 5 years.

Lobb to Dogs for pick.

Freo gives picks to Pies, who save $700k a year, plus probably De Goeys' salary, which they use to chase Giants players.

Grundy then does most of ruckwork for us and Max plays more forward, which prolongs his career and gives us another marking target forward.

We use the high pick to draft another key forward.

We can then rookie another ruck.

Maybe we trade Weid to Pies as part of the deal to improve our draft position.

Lots of possibilities.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
