From The Age:

Melbourne is talking with the management of Rising Star winner and premiership big man Luke Jackson with the Demons categorically denying they have had any talks with Fremantle about the WA native.

Jackson is out of contract at the end of season 2022 and Melbourne wants him to extend his stay with the former Australian under-17 basketballer developing faster than many expected culminating in his ruck work in the grand final helping to turn the game to the Demons in the third term.

Demons list manager Tim Lamb shot down any suggestion they had talked with the Dockers about Jackson.

โ€œAt no time, has there ever been a conversation internally, or with Fremantle, about Luke Jackson,โ€ Lamb told AFL trade radio.ย ย โ€œI can categorically say that has never occurred.ย ย โ€œHeโ€™s out of contract at the end of next season, weโ€™re talking with his manager and happy with where it sits.โ€

ย

Being proactive in signing players like Oliver Salem and Petracca last year, they are following the same process so that players have certainty and contract discussion don't become a distaction during the season.ย

ย

He would be bonkers to leave now, if he really wanted to go home you would stay with us until he hits his prime in 5-6 years. Take the 1.5 mil from freo and head home with 3 premierships draped around his neck.

Seriously though, no one with any choice in the matter is leaving the MFC in the next 5 years. it's going to be bloody exciting.

We need to cling to this bloke like stink on a monkey.

Maxy is a club legend and easily in the top ten players in our history. However, I'd give him 4 years max (see what I did there?).

Dogga, at the trajectory he is on, will be All Australian caliber himself by the time he walks into the first ruck spot.

Get this done!

He isn't going anywhere (no source just my take). He looks so happy and settled with the group. He just won a flag with more to come hopefully from a young group. He talked about working with Max (who he said was like a father figure) for many more seasons. He got an MFC premiership tattoo!!

What more do you need?

Is a 10 year deal too long?!?

No. But then I wanted to give Oliver a ten year deal last year too, so maybe I'm more reckless (or is that aggressive?) with my list management decisions.

"Luke, let me introduce you to this nice girl who's a stunner, who lives in South Yarra, right near Gosch's, and whose family all live near Casey fields, and who has no intention of moving anywhere else in Australia, ever."

โ€ฆโ€ฆ.as they own a massive Melbourne based brewery and support the Dees.

Maybe Trent rivers girlfriend has a friend

Iโ€™m not convinced yet.ย
Seems a bit selfish winning Rising Stars and Premierships at 20.ย

A 2-3 year extension would be a bloody good result. Get it done FD ...ย

like most folks, i don't see him going anywhere

there was some talk from an actual reliable source - it may even have been jake niall? - that his parents are actually looking to move to melbourne

Iโ€™d extend through to 2027. ย New 5year deal onย

500,000

500,000

750,000

750,000

$1mย

ie. $3.5m over 5 years. For his 22-26 years. ย

It was actually Gary Lyon who told me this during an on air call to SEN

How many years for Dogga would you be happy with?

Sometimes young stars donโ€™t progress as expected for different reasons. Iโ€™m thinking of Jesse Hogan, Jake Stringer, Joe Daniher who were all once 20 year old stars. Patrick Cripps is not elite anymore after being one of the competitionโ€™s best a few years back. There are more examples Iโ€™m sure.

That being said, Iโ€™m comfortable enough with Dogga being a generational talent that a three or four year extension (+1 already agreed to in 2022) would make an already perfect 2021, wellโ€ฆ even more perfect.ย

The two year extension to end 2024 will be done. Won't come cheap.

Post 2024 who knows but the offers coming in especially from a post Natanui Eagles could be huge.

2024 will be the year our list managers really earn their money as we could be looking to replace Gawn, Ben Brown and May just to mention a few.

In the meantime 2 or 3 more flags would be nice

I think the Jackson re-signing is as important as Petraccas and Olivers. He is an absolute gun. However I don't believe everything I read in the opening post and I am willing to bet that Freo and maybe west coke have said something to melbourne.

Luke Jackson is a once in a Generation type player, never have i seen a Ruckman at such a young age or any age for that matter take a game away from a side in such a short space of time.

Just like in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls if you wanted a ring you had to come through Chicago the same applies with the AFL.

If you want a medallon your neck your gonna have to come through Melbourne to get one and you'll have to have one hell of a Ruck combination to beat our dynamic duo.

The club have to be reasonable but sensible at the same time, play this right and he could be one of the great of the Club and the game.

Statue outside of the G type player we have on our hands right next to his partner in crime Sir Maximus.

ย

He just got a premiership tattoo.

As if he's leaving anytime soon.

Just need to start a go fund me page and start him up a TInder profile (Melbourne girls only) and the rest should take care of itself.

Must agree - the above article from 'The Age' is cloaked in speculative innuendo that raises hopes in non-MFC supporters and otherwise biased journalists/media that Jackson is unhappy, home-sick and ready to depart. The lad is having the time of his life at the MFC and has accepted that role and its attendant responsibilities with absolute class and determination - as a family member of a great bunch of blokes and extended Club identities. No way is he going to leave - such a move would contradict all that he has given, achieved and adapted to at a great rate of knots.

'Carna' Dees; onyer, Jacko!

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didnโ€™t just beat Gold Coast โ€” they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lionsโ€™ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Letโ€™s be honest, last weekโ€™s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper โ€” second versus seventeenth โ€” football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
