I wanted to say a massive thank you to Mark "Choco" Williams for coming to the Melbourne Football Club.

Apparently he said something pretty inspiring to Christian Petracca while he was on the bench when the Grand Final was in the balance. This assisted with turning things around very quickly in the Demons favour.

Mark "Choco" Williams has probably been the recruit of the year for the Melbourne Football Club. I cannot sing his praises any higher.

I hope that the Melbourne Football Club sign him on for a few more years. He has made a massive impact on our playing group.

To think a few years ago no AFL club wanted Mark "Choco" Williams around. He has definitely proved them all wrong! What a legend!

Absolutely. An absolute brilliant piece of recruiting

Thankyou Mark.

you are now a Demon Legend

We now know why he was recruited to head the development department of the MFC the players like Bowey Jackson Pickett and Rivers have come on leaps and bounds.

Players like Oliver and Petracca are much better disposals of the ball than they were in 2020.

He does not sugar coat the situations during the match which revs up the players.

Here here. He is a winner.

What length contract did we sign him to before the season?

This guy has now been deeply involved in flags at THREE different clubs. Theres not many who can say that. He's got something that the players respond to. Super happy to he's on board. Yze, Williams, and Richardson all bring SO much maturity and experience up behind goody. We just  have an incredibly well structured footy dept and there'smany times in 50 years that Ive been able to say that!

100% Agree. And the good news is we will have all of Choco, Richo and Yze for at least another year. I think Dew will be gone end of next year and probably will be replaced by Clarko, so possibly even another 2 years.

We finally  have some balance and stability in the coaching group and we can look to further polish areas in our game. No major tinkering is necessary and we can now hone in our craft some more.

The last 4 games this year revealed what I think was a stoppage / clearance gameplan that we had kept a lid on all year. I mean there is no other explanation of this. The last two games (in PF and GF mind you) combined to something like150+ pts from centre clearances. THAT IS TRULY EPIC.

We can get you on turnover and from stoppage.. And when we dont have the ball, good luck scoring against our history making d50.

What was i hear for again? Oh yea...thanks Mark :)

As much as I despise them he was also a driving force in making GWS a serious footy club..

There were other differences as well but when you compare Port and GWS to the other clubs that came in at similar times in Freo and Gold Coast you see the huge impact.

Winning flags are tremendous achievements but taking clubs that have either lost their way or are expansion clubs back to being competitive and beyond is half the battle.

The one think I have been overly critical of our players was our kicking, it was our Achilles Heal we just missed to many targets by foot, no problem winning the footy just massive issues especially going inside 50 by foot that lead to long bombs.

Our field kicking has improved out of sight over this year, I thought Ben Brown would hate leading up at our mids based on our ability to kick the ball in 2019/20, he can now hit up with confidence.  It isn't just one player that has improved it was nearly all our players.

I have posted many times in the past that until we kick the ball better we won't win a flag, Williams has come in and we are kicking the ball a hell of a lot better.

Any young aspiring footballer, needs to search up Precision Training Portal from Sherrin.

Love him. What an inspiration.

Talk about culture. Put the very different personalities of Choco, Adem, Alan and Goody (as well as Troy Chaplin, Greg Stafford) together - to have a cohesive team where collective opinions and individual strengths are valued is the reason we are where we are.

Someone sholud make a compilation of Choco revving up the players during the breaks.

Still can't believe this - he's obviously had a huge impact on so many players.  And yet we got him involved almost as an after thought.  Someone will correct me on this but our previous development coach Egan? left late last year and Richo decide to ring his old mate from Port Adelaide days.

How were we not competing to win the services of someone who has that much impact on teams?

Many years ago someone I knew was close to then Pies President, Ranald McDonald. He told my friend that the new Captain mark Williams from SA was a stand out on the track and for his leadership, way ahead of popular star Vic Collingwood players. He was and is a big hearted guy. So a big big thanks to your role in doing what no other Dees team could achieve in over half a century.

I would like to thank the football department, or the directors, or whoever the fluck it was, to re-organise our coaching to maximise its effectiveness. Goody on the boundary with the personal touch: that's his best possie. Yze in the box calling the tactical shots: best possie. "Mad Mark" Williams for his influence on individual players. Still not sure exactly what Richo does but it obviously worked.

It has been a masterstroke equal to the recruiting of Lever & May, scooping Kozzie and Action Jackson in the draft, etc. Big picture stuff that has worked brilliantly.

Whoever orchestrated that can give themselves a big pat on the back, and keep patting until the ball is bounced in round 1, 2022.

Love Chocco's energy.

Love how he has no response to an important goal yet seems busy in the warm up .

Love how we kick the ball these days.

Do we know what was said?,  There was an article on the AFL site that referred to this but when you read the article there was no mention of it.

This is so underestimated

No disrespect to the previous coaches and assistants but when you look at the previous teams we don't appear to have had many people that have been heavily involved in a contemporary ultimate success. That's why getting Roos was so important to us. Its when we started our journey of belief

Even Goodwin's success was 1997 and 1998 as a player. A long time ago And he has admitted he needed a lot of help to deal with the personal stress as a coach

Its been a great effort by the club to get people together like Yze and Choco to support Goodwin and that know how to win and work together to bring about this magnificant success. Well done to all but particularly Goodwin who wore the arrows and deservedly should wear the plaudits

The journey is just beginning

Yes a very big thank you Choco, also a like to thank Yze and others that helped our great club this year🥰

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
