So, if it occurred after curfew we would all have to stay inside and die - earthquake is not one of the exemptions to go outside.

True but this only applies when Melbourne is playing against Essendon in Victoria.

When playing outside of Victoria, earthquakes that happen outside Victoria trump the little ones from Victoria. In 1964 there was a giant earthquake in Alaska. That's outside Victoria so we win on Saturday night.

The current advice is to Drop, Cover and Hold if you're inside. Running outside might just mean some masonry on the noggin.

Hi WJ. There was also a 7.1 quake in Los Angeles between the two Fosters Cup games we played at the end of the 1987 season. I was there for them both and the second one was due to be played at the Coliseum but was then moved back to Vancouver where we'd first played Sydney. We went on to win the World Championship beating North in the final.

On a side note. My auntie & her family were living in Glendora at the time, just on the other side of the San Gabriel mountains from the epicentre of that quake and the shaking completely emptied their swimming pool.

Had a nightmare last night.
Demons didn't kick a goal in the GF.
But for some reason we were playing Port.

Mine was very rattled. My wife and our dog were on a walk nearby and didn't feel a thing...Though she heard a roar which she assumed was a nearby train...

Yeah all reports at home is that mine ran off and hid for an hour!

Now THAT is definitely an omen. 100% prediction that we will not kick any goals against Port this weekend!

But I think we all know what is going on here (via the old xkcd site)

Is everyone OK? Living in the Japans, earthquakes are pretty regular, but it must have been a real surprise for those not used to them. 😳

Didn’t feel a thing in France, other than THE ENTIRE NATION HATING US FOR THE POOR HANDLING OF THE SUBMARINE CONTRACT.

Looks just like an easily distracted cat to me, SB. The weird thing is that animals are particularly sensitive to impending earthquakes. I remember being amazed at the stat from the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that no dead animals were found after the event other than those in ‘captivity’, meaning fenced, penned, caged, etc. It’s apparently well established that animals know it’s coming well ahead of time, so p***-off for high ground. Birds are the first to react, by going noisy nutty, then flying off en masse pre-earthquake. There was another story about a small island off the Indian coast, inhabited by indigenous peoples, which was in the direct path of the wave. All survived because they’d made for high ground well before the Tsunami arrived. Probably by paying attention to the birds!

Anyone living in Victoria likely felt an earthquake about 15 minutes ago. Apparently 5.6 on the Richter scale with its epicentre 33 km south of Mt Buller. But that last fact is not the omen. Perhaps others may also recall that on Brownlow Medal night 2000, Melbourne also had a minor earth tremor. And how did that week work out?

Omens are like steaming dog [censored] on your next door neighbors nature strip. They have no impact on the rest of your day or life.

FWIW, the last time there was an earthquake of 6.0+ in Victoria was just before the 1946 Grand Final. Melbourne lost to Essendon that year...

(EDIT - I see this has been picked up in the previous page. Still, my MFCSS is picking up again.)

Why is everyone so keen to blame right wing extremists?

I live on Collins St, have no social media or decrippted apps and shop at Aldi's on Franklin St in the CBD.

I went to my Aldi's supermarket around the corner to my home and came across the first protest.

Anybody who says the protesters are far right extremists could be correct but they are still union members and they are not mutually exclusive.

The crowd didn't magically get CFMEU branded high vis wear and steel capped boots by click and collect within hours of the initial protest. It was the CFMEU members protesting against the CFMEU.

Dan Andrews didn't shut down the construction industry because it was far right extremists protesting. He knows it was the CFMEU.

Far right extremists wouldn't walk to the Westgate to shut down the city claiming they built it.

There is desperation by slow plan Dan to pretend it's not his supporter base destroying our city.

Bull sht, no need to shut down anything, just continue with the plan of having all construction workers vaccinated simple, Dan Andrews is vindictive a psychopath and it's just cutting off his nose to spite his face, shutdowns don't work anymore, whether you scared  little people like or not we have to live with it simples, everyone get vaccinated no more shutdowns, if UK can we can

That night Shane Woewodin narrowly beat Scott West. If anything that’s a good sign

I do recall many years ago when there was a weak quake on the Mornington Peninsula, my then Mother-in-law was on the phone to her brother and was so discombobulated by the whole thing that she said "The rats were coupling in the kitchen" instead of "The cups were rattling in the kitchen".

One of the all time great spoonerisms in my opinion.
