The current advice is to Drop, Cover and Hold if you're inside. Running outside might just mean some masonry on the noggin. Quote

That's outside Victoria so we win on Saturday night. Hi WJ. There was also a 7.1 quake in Los Angeles between the two Fosters Cup games we played at the end of the 1987 season. I was there for them both and the second one was due to be played at the Coliseum but was then moved back to Vancouver where we'd first played Sydney. We went on to win the World Championship beating North in the final. On a side note. My auntie & her family were living in Glendora at the time, just on the other side of the San Gabriel mountains from the epicentre of that quake and the shaking completely emptied their swimming pool. 1 Quote

The weird thing is that animals are particularly sensitive to impending earthquakes. I remember being amazed at the stat from the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that no dead animals were found after the event other than those in ‘captivity’, meaning fenced, penned, caged, etc. It’s apparently well established that animals know it’s coming well ahead of time, so p***-off for high ground. Birds are the first to react, by going noisy nutty, then flying off en masse pre-earthquake. There was another story about a small island off the Indian coast, inhabited by indigenous peoples, which was in the direct path of the wave. All survived because they’d made for high ground well before the Tsunami arrived. Probably by paying attention to the birds! 2 Quote

Range Rover to the snow 146 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) FWIW, the last time there was an earthquake of 6.0+ in Victoria was just before the 1946 Grand Final. Melbourne lost to Essendon that year... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_earthquakes_in_Australia (EDIT - I see this has been picked up in the previous page. Still, my MFCSS is picking up again.) Edited September 22, 2021 by Range Rover to the snow Quote

Anybody who says the protesters are far right extremists could be correct but they are still union members and they are not mutually exclusive. The crowd didn't magically get CFMEU branded high vis wear and steel capped boots by click and collect within hours of the initial protest. It was the CFMEU members protesting against the CFMEU. Dan Andrews didn't shut down the construction industry because it was far right extremists protesting. He knows it was the CFMEU. Far right extremists wouldn't walk to the Westgate to shut down the city claiming they built it. There is desperation by slow plan Dan to pretend it's not his supporter base destroying our city. Bull sht, no need to shut down anything, just continue with the plan of having all construction workers vaccinated simple, Dan Andrews is vindictive a psychopath and it's just cutting off his nose to spite his face, shutdowns don't work anymore, whether you scared little people like or not we have to live with it simples, everyone get vaccinated no more shutdowns, if UK can we can 1 Quote

CHF 2,825 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) I do recall many years ago when there was a weak quake on the Mornington Peninsula, my then Mother-in-law was on the phone to her brother and was so discombobulated by the whole thing that she said "The rats were coupling in the kitchen" instead of "The cups were rattling in the kitchen". One of the all time great spoonerisms in my opinion. Edited September 22, 2021 by CHF typo 1 Quote
