Such a driven man. What mental toughness to get through the last 3 years and get us here.

he has the players, has built a culture of trust or selflessness.

Very glad to have him. Congratulations Goody!

Humble comments by Goodwin that aren’t unexpected but I really think without Burgess, Choco and Ooze we’d not be where we are or Goodwin is today.

The sum of all Parts indeed.

Alastair CLarkson has never been coach of the year..

Just saying

Congrats Goody. Has grown in the role and looks very comfortable.

This is the core of his genius McQueen. He lets other people shine around him and do what they do well. He coaches from the boundary and let’s yze watch from above ( he’s the only coach that does this all game) He’s very calm and measured but choco is explosive. He showed by example what being part of and committing to the team looks like.

Some credit for this needs to go to our administration that could have gone fully Carlton and sacked Goody before he got the oppertunity that he has had to build the level of trust and maturity in the playing group that has been so essential to our success this year. Also that we havr gone out and recruited some of the best for Goody and the team to work with (how much of a coup has it been recruiting Darren Burgess).

I love that Goody has won this award and congratulations.  But I'll really celebrate if he emulates what a select few of the past winners of this award did and go on to win the premiership.

As I'm sure the man himself would say - "Jobs not done yet!"

I must admit that it took me a while to warm to Goody's press conferences.  To some extent it was because the standard had been set pretty high by Roos in this regards, but also because the different more simple, monotone and low-key approach of Goody in the way he communicates.  But as the years have gone on even Goody's pressers have grown on me and he's probably also lifted his game in this area as he's built confidence in himself as senior coach.  It's also much better and easier to hear from a coach of a successful, winning side.

The thing that concerns me is the winner hasn't won the premiership since 2017 hopefully this changes.

Just a fantastic achievement.

Well done Goody and thank you for bringing us so much joy to us in what's been an extremely dark year for all.

Great sentiments.

But also let's celebrate Troy Chaplin coming 2nd in the Assistants category. There's heaps more of these group and Chaplin can claim responsibility in part for developing the best team defence in the AFL and the best I have seen in 57 years.

It’s time for Troy to get his own thread.💕

It has been telling to hear from a number of players over the past week or so attribute their season in part to conversations with Goodwin.  They include Oliver, McDonald and May (via Hibberd).

May and T Mac have had terrific seasons but just imagine if we had lost Oliver.

Congrats Goody. Ted Lasso inspired love for his players has turned it around. Burgess and Choco also share in this. I’d still give Clarko the job if he was available.

Yze.

👍

The coach of the year should be renamed the coaching team of year because they all work together along with the players, trainers and fitness staff to get the result, as Ollie Wines said the medal is his but all the other coaches, players, trainer and fitness staff made it possible.

Amazing how you've changed your tune after 5 years of negativity.

"Why hasn't Goodwin been sacked already?"

"You could give him 50 yrs but the club would be gone within 4. Can't coach, stubborn, bereft of ideas how to fix straightforward issues."'

"No team has consistently won finals with a defence as weak as ours. It's objectively true yet a lot here think our defence is doing a good job. We can't defend once the ball goes into our back 50. It's simply undeniable."

"It's an indictment on the club regardless of 'how far we've come'. It's failure pure and simple. Just like its a failure to lose like we did against Geelong. We are a mentally weak club. Supporters should demand more."

Didn’t even bother with the great get out of jail free card: “I hope I’m wrong, but…”

Premature Announcement

While Goody coaching us through to the GF warrants the accolades, what I’m loving are all the  things in motion now to further improve us in the future…

Things like giving the whole squad a taste of the GF build up and sense of inclusion, resigning Weid, trawling for Cerra, etc…

He, and the club, are intent on building a dynasty, and one facet of our history that’s been overlooked with the focus on the 57 year drought, is that when we win one 🏆 we generally win several.

very impressive by Simon and the club.

Fingers crossed for Saturday, but should the gods not favour us, I’ll be content, as Simon has led us across the Rubicon and further good times await.

Go Demons!

What a great accolade and what a year it's been.  Now to bring it home & become a legend of the club / AFL 🙏🤞

Assume he can see Caleb Daniels. 26 possessions in a half. Really setting up the dogs.  It was so obvious.

Forget awards.  This 2nd Half is his time to prove himself.  I’m keeping faith just.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
