Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Like Tom Hawkins sorry he broke Steven May's eye socket.

Spare me. I don't buy those apologies - especially for serial offenders.  Having said this, ScoMo could take a leaf out of Toby's book

Don't open that can of worms @Demon17 still makes my blood boil that it wasn't even looked at.

Two weeks for Greene plus a suspended sentence of 10 weeks for any offence. When 1diots refuse to learn you need to make it very clear.

The irony of this on a fan forum where threads and match day pages are devoted to bullying and abusing umpires is not lost.

Imo,  everyone is missing the bigger picture here. Slamming Toby Greene, sure whatever, but totally ignoring the bigger question that afl supporters and culture is to abuse and disrespect umpires generally. Especially behind keyboards.

(Not in direct reference to this post WCW, you're always civil).

This is a valid debate.

It does not mean what Greene did is any less worthy of suspension, though.

Greene needs to be rubbed out it totally not on to walk into an umpire it sends a horrible message. After playing the game I decided to umpire and got a reserve grade grand final. I was shirt fronted by a player and close to knocked out. I am not comparing the two but if you don’t protect umpires you have no game. That player copped 10 years and another two years (ex state player) for a push no harder than Greene. I never umpired another game and if I was wavering this Greene decision will push some into a similar decision.
in relation to Toby he came from a broken family and from all accounts had a very tough time with his father. It no excuse but there would be a lifetime of experiences that bring him to this point. An earlier poster questioned GWS leadership and I agree. Where is the mentoring his problems have been obvious. The penchant for the club to alway plead not guilty is part of the problem. If they took a stronger stance internally maybe this would happen.

Gleeson: It is simply not true to say you didn't intend to make contact with him, is that correct?

Just keep reframing the question in more confusing ways and Toby should break and start swearing and abusing the lawyer then case closed!

Soooo you'd say it's not untrue that you didn't think you should not have made contact?  I find that have to believe

What takes place in the stands, and on line is totally different to even verbal abuse by players on the field, let alone aggressive contact, which is what occurred.

FCS if the AFL are serious about 'defending umpires' and 'the integrity of the game' then they must stop any contact with umpires (other than the truly accidental in play) AND also start penalising on field abuse and even questioning - start with an automatic free kick, and add an immediate 50 meters each time it continues.  It would stop almost instantly.

Players are already being fined for bumping into umpires accidentally. It would make a mockery of this incident if Greene was fined.

The length of this doesn’t bode well. The longer it takes to arrive at a decision, the more likely he’ll be given less than what it deserves, imho.

Greene's counsel "Toby Greene's representative, Ben Ihle QC, agrees that "it's not a good look for the game … it's a terrible look". But he says the question the Tribunal must consider is: "At the point contact was made, what was going through Toby Greene's mind?" He says the Tribunal can't make a decision based on the look, but what was going through Greene's head."

Who GAF what was going through Toby's head. He knocked the umpire full stop.

Get in the bin you serial offender.

Toby should have had more caution. Toby waddles when walking like Leigh Matthews. No excuse and he was angry. But I cant believe the hatred.

This is not a mountain it is a molehill. I wouldnt be surprised if all those Demonlanders who are civil all the time except on the game day thread, are the ones baying for blood. If it was Hawkins or Danger he wouldnt be charged. It doesnt matter but I did 2 years as an umpire years ago. It also doesnt matter that I like Toby Green and I believe a repremand and 1 week is enough. Lochie Neal got off lightly.

It was once Hawkins, with a much less offensive action, and he copped a 1 match ban, which would have been 2 if he didn’t plead guilty.

I suspect whatever happens today, there will be an appeal. GWS and Greene will want to appeal any suspension and my gut tells me the AFL will appeal if there isn't a suspension.

I assume they’ll give him a big suspension on the assumption of an appeal where the number of weeks will be slightly downgraded.
Either way, what great preparation for finals for GWS. Greene is such a wonderful leader.

I think the footpath example is all the evidence we need, Toby Greene does not have respect for anyone else and he certainly did not show any to the umpire.

There is absolutely no situation in which a normal person would accidentally bump into someone without apologising on the street or otherwise.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
