Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

He is too young for them

Maybe he could stage some arthritic condition, if he was serious about playing for the Catty Puts. Might fit in, then.

Irrelevant due to their upstart demands being regularly met by the AFL, and ability to offer top dollar to the player as a nurturant incentive.

Of course, the Cats will simply call Gil and demand an upgrade of pick 27 to 8 in order for them to land a 200cm 70kg young ruckman from another club’s NGA region. Sounds fair to me.

Jack, he ain't coming to us. He's highly rated within recruiters and clubs, and will easily go top 15 on form.

Time to let it go mate..

Where do you think Geelong Falcons ruckman Toby Conway is going to be selected? He’s highly regarded by Cal Twomey who had him in the first ruck (ahead of Mac Andrew) in his draft team of the year.

It needed to be a better system where a club would need to demonstrate an ongoing commitment and investment to a certain level, into both boys and girls footy in their NGA to be eligible to select those kids. And not purely in a year where they were likely to pick up a star through shear luck. An investment over several years prior to eligibility.

I think a well thought out system would've actually been better for footy. Instead the AFL has flubbed it and the northern clubs retain their advantage.

They’re two completely different players. Conway is a pure ruckman in the mould of Sean Darcy of the Dockers. Not yet as solid but his 90kg is a good start. Andrew is like a very much undeveloped Naitanui and a more mobile type who could play key position at either end but is a fair way off.

Haven’t seen either - but is Mac anything like, as a player, Maibol Chol ( who is playing a decent game tonight)?

sounds like mac andrew will be a top 10 pick at this stage

https://www.afl.com.au/news/647954/twomey-s-draft-team-of-the-year-merrett-2-0-athletic-ruck-enter-top-10-talks

Mac Andrew's performance for Vic Country in last week's under-19 clash with Vic Metro was particularly eye-catching and sees the athletic ruckman/forward come back into the team of the year after missing several weeks through concussion.

Andrew has elevated himself into being a likely top-10 selection, meaning Melbourne would be unable to match a bid on the Next Generation Academy prospect.

I literally said he'd be top 10 about a week ago. The Nik Cox evolution has probably helped Mac Andrews go up the board.

It’s Maibor Chol actually and they have similar South Sudanese backgrounds. There’s five years difference in age and development, same height and Chol weighs 23kg more. Andrew has a bit more bounce and agility in him going from the vision I’ve seen of him but yes, he might become the same type of player that Chol is in 5 year’s time.

It's MABIOR CHOL actually.

I can see the Sudanese boys being overrepresented in the AFL in coming years, especially once they develop the innate game sense that comes with generations of playing the game. They certainly have the physical attributes that the game is moving towards.

Thanks. I stand corrected. This is definitely one of the things that the NGA is for and why the clubs should be rewarded if they have had a role in the player’s development.

I came across this unusual quote about ruck draft prospects for 2021 from Knightmare on bigfooty -

“For ruck options there are none better than Toby Conway, he probably goes second or third round. Mac Andrew (Melbourne NGA) is the other good ruck prospect, though he could be bid on first round and I can't imagine would drop into the mid draft range (in which case he'd have his bid matched presumably). Outside of those two, there aren't any other rucks I'd be endorsing for picking in the national draft, with perhaps a Liam Podhajski more-so appropriate for selection as a rookie if you miss on a Conway.”

Anyone else think there’s something unusual about his comments?

To put all this Academy stuff into perspective -  my nephew just got accepted into an AFL academy through the school he’s going to attend. He’s 11. He’s a ripping player for his age, but there’s a long way to go between now and 18, and it highlights the way the system works. The kids are babies when they get access to this stuff - hence why few of them actually come into the AFL.

Nah, actually I just posted this to brag about my nephew. He’s a legend! We are definitely drinking our own bath water at my place tonight. ?

This whole situation is so frustrating. We finally get access to an academy pick and a great prospect in Mac and we're going to have him whisked away, thanks to a rule change. Fantastic.

Not so fast - nobody has drafted Mac Andrew yet and there are four months to go to the National Draft. Someone has to risk a top 20 pick to get him and, as far as I'm concerned, there’s still a disconnect between the swooning in some quarters over him and the limited evidence of consistent performances that would put him in the top 10 or 15 as claimed. This is what we know -

After some good form in the opening two NAB League games, his form dropped and then he was concussed in the first 5 minutes of a game on 20 June and missed a few weeks as a result. In the meantime, there was that 9 possession game with low hit out and marking numbers for the Academy team v Geelong in late April with the majority of the stats accumulated in the last quarter in a team beaten by over 100 points. The vision is available and it's not spectacular.

His only other game since was the 2021 U19 Challenge where he represented Vic Country and received mixed reports.

Not everyone is on board over Mac at this stage - he still has to prove himself. The lockdown isn't helping his cause.

Doesn't need to.

Clubs still use a stack a footage from this year and previous years throughout their junior career. Didn't last years draft prove that?

Max Holmes was drafted inside the top 20 on the back of 1 NAB League game in 2019. Raw skinny athlete who had enough athletic potential in forcing Geelong to jump the que to get him.

Holmes was taken with pick 20 and Geelong did acquire a draft pick to get him but last year’s draft proved nothing given there were no games at all during the season as a benchmark. Clubs had no choice but to sift through whatever footage they had from the past.

What WJ is saying is that the jury’s out and time will tell as to whether clubs want to take the punt on him.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
