Come on Coaches get your thinking caps on you need to sort this well before finals.

Excellent point.  We need to know what our forward setup is but I think even the coaches aren't sure yet

Go back to the mobile fwd line, keep the pressure up and create turnovers and scores like earlier in the season.

Top post.

Is the Match Cttee looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist?

i.e We have 3 tall forwards , but one is the combination of 2 players resting in the forward half of Gawn and the now excellent Jackson.

The solution to getting BBB and having weid is just that they are backup. Nothing more , esp in Weid's case.

The Weid should have been dropped 2 weeks ago . M.Brown would have been a better option , he could of played back with Petty going forward . B.Brown needs game time in the 2nds , I would give him ruck time to boost his confidence and fitness.

Will be very interested to see how BB goes in Saturdays scratch match if anyone is able to give a report.

Lets assume SW is a bust and BB is not physically ready to go now or maybe ever

What's is the clubs back up plan??

We have Mitch Brown !  Maybe play Max forward? Rob the back line and try Petty forward

Most on here don't see Jackson as a forward?

So what's the clubs' plan? Were there any likely KPFs in the midseason draft?

Crafty Mitch Brown, a worthy and willing "pull in case of emergency"

Despite Tmac having a shocker against the pies we would be lucky to be in the eight without him.

I was so excited about the ppwer of our forward line. With Bbb and Weideman kicking bags in the vfl a month or so ago I was thinking we may have the best fwd line in the comp. My oh my.

I cant see Weideman being a part of it now suffice to say zero kicks against a bottom team is reason why. Cant say he hasnt had chances.

So we are pinning our hopes on one of the Browns. Bbb has a great history so if he can do a Tmac we will be ok.

As for Jackson, I think he is starting to show that he is a good forward. When he plays in the ruck we always need Max to move up fwd.

Out: Petty

In: Melksham

Weideman moves to the backline, our forward line works better without BBB and Weideman.

Under consideration: Brayshaw for Chandler or Jones.

Our forward line was better with the 1 tall forward and Jackson/Fritsch. Viney back means more Harmes and Petracca forward as well.

Brayshaw is so pitiful. Just miles off his man all game. Don't tell me it's structure either because JJ and Langdon manage to get on theirs (less so this week).  If a half back got caught up the ground he made no effort to cover back for them. His ball use is awful.

He went at 80%

Absolutely no chance of Petty going out and Weid replacing him in the back 6

Agreed. We are not a bottom 4 side experimenting during a rebuild for goodness sake.

A PREMIERSHIP is at stake. We won't make any structural changes to the side unless forced to due to injury. It is like for like changes only. Hence if Weideman is out, we either bring in one of the Browns, or revert back to a smaller mobile forwardline like we had in the first 6 rounds.

The idea of playing Weid back without experience is not the way to go. When he returned to footy this season he should have played in the back line(for Casey). We have the Browns , J.Smith and Daw who all can play forward.

Everyone dismisses Mitch Brown, but I've never seen a game where he didn't give it his all.

He may not get on the end of it each week but he works bloody hard trying to, I think there is a role for him in the latter half of the season in lieu of BB and Weid.

If Joel Smith or Majak are playing off no games, we are in real strife

Round 1 last year against the Eagles- uncompetitive

Round 15 v Sydney last year - uncompetitive
The first 3 quarters the week before against St Kilda before a strong last quarter - as above

The first 3 quarters against Hawthorn before we opened it up late - the same

He's a good lead up player with nice skills, but he offers very little in the contest - he doesn't jump or extent his arms, and almost nothing defensively.

He can be a back up for Fritsch or Tommy Mc but either we get one of the big boys up and going or we go smaller I think.

And how many clubs has he played for? So let's not get excited about him.

The ins and outs are very easy.

Viney for Sparrow

(Melksham for Sparrow if Viney not ready yet.)

One of the Browns for Mr 4 handballs.

While dropping Weid is the right thing to do, there are a few things worth remembering:

- his preseason was heavily interrupted

- last year he put in half a dozen really solid games working in conjunction with Jackson in the forward line, if he had of improved off the back of that batch of games, he’d hold his place this year

- TMac was poor 2019& 2020, same as Harmes, so I wouldn’t write off Weideman, he needs a very good preseason then let’s see what he can do in 2022!

in the backline. its an obvious option for him. worth trialling.

Wouldn't think there is a chance of that happening.

Oh wait…

Big difference between a ruckman and a forward line player.

I agree with Weid to the backline, but after he adjusts to it at Casey for a bit.

I understand the thinking behind a move to defence but we have Tomlinson to come back remember so we don’t have the list spot anyways. We need a tall forward not another tall defender. And moving Petty forward now sends a pretty clear message to the Weid that his days as a KPF at the Dees are over.

I can’t see it happening. Best he sticks to being a forward and who knows, with a full preseason under his belt, he might turn it around and show some output and consistency next season.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
