Wingers Club as described by Gus is Langdon, Brayshaw, Baker, Nietschke, Rosman, and in the recent past Jordon. Per Gus&Gawny pod.

So if they don’t shoehorn it with a non-winger will be Baker straight in or Sparrow in and Jordon to the wing.

I think they will stick to the roles - it reinforces the edicts around playing your role, and knowing what you have to do.

I was being facetious. I meant Brown's Casey game.

As I said in a previous post I think they wedged themselves  They are not going to bring Brown in but I think he shouldn't have gone out in rbe first place.

But to he honest I find both players a bit underwhelming and wonder if DeeSpencer might be on the money and come finals we revert to our rounds 1-5 set up.

Weed should be compared to naughton, not brown. That's the level he should be at.

Both the same height. Both drafted at 9. Same position.

Naughton is miles ahead

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&pid1=4171&fid1=S&playerStatus2=A&tid2=8&pid2=6491&fid2=S&type=A

Sam is two years older and so is running out of excuses for all those game he 'nearly' starts clunking his marks or kicking goals.

Sorry Binman but if you're going to quote footywire to support your argument, I can do the same to support Weid.  Your correct Naughton is miles ahead at 21yr 6mth he has played 64 games. Sadly, Weid has played just 47. If we can see him play the rest of the season we might be pleasantly surprised.

Agree. We have to show some faith in Weid. IMO he's a confidence player.

Probably 3 or 4 missed marks on Friday were 'nearlies' including the very first centre clearance (that Harmes goaled from).

I don't recall him '2 grabbing' marks in the 2018 finals (Cats and Hawks). Weid is the future. BBB ain't.

M9 wrong on 2 counts

Weid 2 grabbed the mark just before 1/4 time vs Cats. Is consistently 2 grabbing and not always retaining the ball.

And BBB has 4 year contract so he's not going any where. He only needs a run at it also to change fortunes. Between the 2 we should come up with a very useful KP Full forward in the second half if the season.

I tend to agree, BBB needs to be given some more opportunity in the second half of the season. I'm sure with an extended run of games he will build his form and fitness. I am far from thinking he is done.

My problem with Baker is that of defense.

Can he play that structured game? He needs to be able to support the backline, and stop the opposition from getting easy outs. I also question his decision making.

He can get the ball, tackle, moves well to space, and is nearly a good kick.

The consistency in the selections would have us, having to play him for a few games, given that he has already been in and out of the team without cementing a spot or given a fair run at it. Tough to come in for one game.

Sparrow would be in the same boat if they are thinking one game filler. Sparrow would be a better long term selection.

Would prefer to give one game to Bowey or Rosman.

I never said it was them picking the team but last time I checked they played in the team and would know the side - Geeze.   It may be off the mark but they did hint at it but thanks for pointing at their positions I was unaware ?

Agree Rusty, it's clear to me he is next in line. I was at the ground for the Sydney game and he was one of the best. Had 26 disposals, kicked a goal and patrolled up and down his wing. He has plenty of pace and is good in the air. I commented to a mate at the time that he clearly knows the role and the game plan and how to execute it and is a great plug and play option.

His one other outing this year produced the following;

     Kicks        12 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Handballs        3 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Marks        5 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Goals        0
    Tackles        4 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Clearances    2 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Goal Assists    0
    Inside 50s    6 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Rebound 50s    1 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    Supercoach    67 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

    AFL Fantasy    73 v North Melbourne, 2nd May 2021

People need to remember it's a specialist role and while I like the future of Rosman he is a developing prospect, not a ready to go winger. The other thing to remember is Brisbane like to use the flanks/wings and have pace through there.

Yep i certainly wouldn't want to see Rosman thrown in the deep end at such a raw end of his career DW.  Give him another pre-season or two and give him a taste of the big league when the oppo and time suits.  Looks a very nice lip smacking prospect.  Looking forward to him coming on and into the senior ranks as he builds a tank and body etc.

I'm not sure either will bust any doors down (at AFL level.. VFL a different matter) this season 58 with both coming off an interrupted pre-season.  Usually find players struggle to hit their "top form"with consistency in these situations.  I'm not saying they won't improve on some pretty ordinary early form and one or both might have the occasional day  out.  But i wouldn't bet the house on them firing on all cylinders consistently either.

I don't think anyone is up to holding down a regular 22 on the wing either OD.  I just think he's the most suited go to at this point until Lingers returns in a week or two ?

Those two have a habit of giving up what's happening inside the club. That's almost all that show is. Gawn or Gus putting their foot in it and saying something they're not supposed to let slip and Benny trying to cover for them.

Anyway, I think the MC is almost certain to add Sparrow and push JJ to the wing. It gives us an extra mid rotation too. JJ has played quite a bit of wing, so I reckon he'll play 70 pr 80% wing and they'll fill the remainder with a Melksham and Kozzy. The latter two have had wing time too.

Langton usually plays >90% game time, Brayshaw >85%, so not sure when Jordon has played the wing much.

Also Jordon usually plays 55-70% game time, so not sure he has the tank for the wing

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
