Not sure Melksham is an automatic selection.

Saints will be playing in a swamp off a 6 day break and have plenty of injuriesย

perfect time to get them

The little stadium out west is very exposed and the rain up here is going beyond ridiculous for four days already.ย  By tomorrow afternoon the ground could be barely playable.

out- Jetta

in- Hibberd

Jetta was safe today on a greenย kid like Liam Henry but a more experienced small forward, like what the Saints have, will work him over imo. Hibberd has more bounce to his game and is the preferred back pocket for this reason.

i reckon Viney will likely need another hit out in the reserves so Sparrow probably gets another week to show something.

OUT: Harmes

IN: Viney

Sparrow lead our tackle count with 6. We need that to balance out the others sadly.

ANB had some great looks inside 50 and had 5 clearances (second only behind Oliver). Craziness to suggest dropping him IMO.

Sparrow, Jones and Hunt the clear three contenders to make room for any potential inclusions IMO. Harmes wasn't fantastic but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as people are suggesting.ย

If fit, I'd consider Viney and Melksham for Sparrow and Jones. Hibberd could maybe take Hunt's spot. Yes there's a speed loss there, but Hunt made so many mistakes today it might still be a net win.

Jetta? You gotta be kidding.

Nev was fantastic today, I thought Chunky laboured. The end is in sight!

Great stat, thought his tackling was crucial, particularly his second quarter,

ย think he laid 3 criucial tackles just in the second quarter to win back momentum and intercepted the ball to give Fritsch a shot on goalย

IN: VINEY, HIBBERD

OUT: SPARROW, CHANDLER

Rivers the sub

Sparrow 6 tacklesย

jones noneย

If they want to get Jones to 300 games, just play him as the sub for a few games. ย Having said that, I thought he was very serviceable today, but I think that Harmes up forward will accomplish more.

For God's sake put Brayshaw on the ball or trade him. It's hard to watch. I feel so sorry for the bloke

Wonder if all those asking for Sparrow to go were at the game or watching fromย home?

He did a lot of good work around the contest and was never far away. I think heโ€™s quiteย similar to Viney, so would only make way as a like for like?

Hunt &ย Jones were ordinary, but Iโ€™d rather not bring in Melksham so happy for Jonesย to stay.

Hibbo can come in for Hint if required

ย

I think Jetta and Hunt will be a bit worried about their spots for next week but I donโ€™t know who played well for Casey today? Does anyone have any insights into who played well for Casey today?

A fair bit of love for Melksham.

I'm not sure what we'd do with him. He ruins our balance in the forward half.

Half back to replace Hunt who was a bit ordinary?

Also, I thought Jetta was great today - what did I miss?

Look at who we play next week. Jones and Jetta out. In viney and Hibberd. Putting Viney in may be a bit rough. Chandler and Bowey come to mind as well.

If Hibbo is fit then a straight swap for Huntย seems an easyย decision.

Viney is an automatic in, but who makes way isnโ€™t as clear cut.ย Iโ€™d pick Sparrow, tackle count notwithstanding.

for mine it's all about balance - viney replaces one of sparrow or jordon for a midfield rotation, hibberd replaces hunt for the half back role, and melksham mebbe replaces jones for the half forward general

Viney is a must, we need speed and tackle ย Chandlerย

outs ANB Jetta Jonesย

LOL viney and speed unless he has changed his game style the saints will expose him with his opponent running of him,ย ย if the game is locked down in the midfield then that is his style.

The biggest problem is Gawn he no longer jumps for a tap just stands under the ball and trying to out muscle his opponent, midfield is getting beaten more often than not as the opposition are starting to pick him off.

ย

IF Viney is ready i'd bring him back in for sparrow.

Otherwise leave as is. It's a winning team after all.

Iโ€™d prefer Hunt forward than Melksham. Hunt started looking like a footballer again last year now he gets thrown back again, why? Use his speed around half forward with the statues on the mark.ย

Fair comment re: Sparrow, but tackling can't be the only thing a player brings to the side, otherwise vandenBerg would be playing.

I didn't feel Sparrow added much at all to the game, tackles notwithstanding. Ditto Jones. Harmes might not have been great, but I saw a lot more confidence in him as a mid/forward compared to what I saw last year. I'd be keeping Harmes over Jones or Sparrow.

Agree with you but Melksham needs to prove himself with high intensity effort at Casey first

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
