Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Viney officially ruled out til after the byes. so a 1-2 weeks injury has turned into 7 weeks (minimum). Its not good enough. Either jack has played through an injury making it worse or the club doctors haven't respected his long foot injury history enough. this is pissing me off so much. he is so important to us

No, it doesn't have to be "either" of your two opinions, it can be that injuries are complicated and things don't always go as expected or heal/develop how the club would like.

Typical hyperbole by you to try and turn it into a black and white issue where you have someone to blame.

Starting to suspect you may not be a real Dr...

Viney injury not ideal, but at 10-1, no point rushing him back which could potentially be to his detriment.

Don't mind the cautious approach, but as @Lord Nev said - injuries are complicated - esp. Feet.

2 weeks ago there was had to have been setback (incedent I'm guessing) in Jacks recovery - it was communicated as just an extension of his return - but I had a bad feeling in my dumplings. It gave my 'Danny from Droop Street' personality a much needed kick of glumness  - which I've been starved of this year.

Seriouisly though  - Jack deserves to be a part of the surge this year & play deep (waaaaaaay deep) into finals.

According to the report, we will have no injuries other than the 3 ACL injuries after the bye.

We really do all need to acknowledge that we are having an exceptionally good run on the injury front so far.

I'm sure a significant part of that is luck. But I wonder whether any part of it is reward for fitness/planning/training/etc.? Like, for example, are we minimising/avoiding soft tissue injuries by being fitter and by implementing a better medical programme than other clubs?

I have no idea and not sure anyone would, just thinking out loud.

Mostly luck I reckon. Each club spends $6m on getting 45 players up and running and the intel is shared across the league as staff come and go.

Guessing that if he's that 9 - 11 weeks away, then that could equate to him being in the zone of playing games for Casey around finals time.  Would be handy to have as depth around then and must also be giving the man himself some motivation to play either AFL or VFL finals.

This is about as good a position as we could be in halfway through the season. After the bye we will have virtually a full list to select from, top of the ladder a game clear and full of confidence.

This is insanely crucial any clubs hopes of pushing up the ladder and being in premiership contention. Luck is an element that is supremely undervalued when looking at premiership teams. The tigers broke their drought off the back of a stupidly good year of injuries, even better than what we currently have. The dogs had injuries in their year but their piece of luck was they peaked absolutely perfectly and got an armchair ride from the umpires. Even back to the dominant Essendon team of 2000, they had an incredible run of no injuries and no suspensions (that last part ironic given their thuggish actions on GF day).

Luck is the element that I feel like we’ve constantly missed out on. All the way back to Jimmy running across the mark in prelim, to ‘98 getting pushed over to the tougher finals draw despite beating the premiers by 50+ points in the first week, 2000 we came up against unstoppable force, and the years from 2004-2006 even though we were in contention we always seemed to get injuries right at the worst times.

So far Lady Luck is shining on us, fingers crossed that continues!

Latest training photos on the MFC website show Jack running around and kicking the footy.  Must be getting pretty close if that's the case.

My bet is that the club are both playing it ultra safe with Jack making sure he doesn't risk re-injury, but probably also getting him back to as close as possible to full match fittness, so that when he does get put into the senior side, he's cherry ripe, ready to smash some heads and make pleanty of opposition on-ballers cry.

Dangerfield, Selwood, Bont, Zorko, his old mate Wines all need to feel the full force of Jack 'The Human Cannonball' Viney come the back half and pointy end of the season.

So it appears AVB is now available to play?

His skills let him down at times but I wonder if he could be a September wild card if he somehow finds himself in the side in August?

Big bodied contested player that wouldn’t be afraid of nailing the big goal in a final.

It will be reasonable to expect some attrition come finals time. A fresh and fit AVB will be very valuable in pressure cooker finals.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
