Yep just like every other year, wrecked through injury.

Reminds me of recruiting Kelvin Templeton, perhaps the most potent full forward imaginable. It was not a good season and / or outcome.

As with Hawthorn taking Scully & Patton from GWS on seemingly favourable deals, the eagerness of NM to be done with Brown should have been a warning sign for Melbourne.

But yet again we were so desperate to add talent from other clubs, instead of developing our own, that we rushed in to sign Brown with $3M worth of contract.

Thankfully we had talked McDonald's value down so far that there were no takers, otherwise we would be looking at starting another season with Weideman as our only true key position forward.

Are you suggesting we shouldn't have taken Bernie Vince or Jordan Lewis?

I can't believe people on here believe people shouldn't be training with strapping....

Almost every player in the competition has some sort of strapping, the majority would be ankle related.

Judd played with shoulder strapping his whole career, didn't seem to slow him down.

Kicks 6 in a quarter in a practice hit out.

In full training, not in rehab - for the whole preseason so far

Swelling detected in knee

No rushed for scans, but scheduled 48 hours later (Perhaps when acute phase of swelling has concluded)

The sky is not falling, in my humble view.

Suggest this is to make decisions regarding load and management rather than ‘season ending’.

I can guarantee it’s the same people whinging about the end of our year due to Brown being are injured are the same people who whinged about recruiting him in the 1st place,

This one is less of a concern than the Viney foot injury. Brown has been very durable and only suffered knee problems for the first time last year. He’s played all matches in a season 5 times out of 7 since debut.

Viney has missed tons of matches through ongoing foot injury. He’s only played a full season once out of 8 due to injury!

Browns injury sounds like a bit of swelling while adjusting to full load again after a layoff. Not panic stations yet. Vineys is a big concern and hopefully he doesn’t miss more matches to that foot problem.

The thing with Vin is it was just a small Plantar fasciitis release, something you can snap and not get fixed so im not too worried about it, hopefully.

You are not fitting with the narrative that the club is cursed and BBB will never play a game for the MFC. I do totally agree with you though.

Let's just wait and see,  hopefully it might be a better outcome than we expected Ds 56. Have to think positive,

These things never end well, remember how Andrew Mcleod, Shaun Burgoyne and Joel Selwood all struggled after being diagnosed with degenerative knee issues.

They just couldn't get the management right and their careers ended prematurely.

???

hopefully the club stops coughing up first round picks but I'm not as negative as others. It just means that Tom McDonald must get back to 2018 form.  If he does, we will do well, if not... it's another 9-12 season with no improvement. unless we sack Goodwin early.

It’s obviously not great that his troublesome knee has flared up after ramping up training but this is common with players coming back from any sort of long term injury. We’ve recruited him for a few years not just round 1 2021. The hysteria on here is amazing. I’m dec thankful that we kept T-Mac. This is his chance prove everyone wrong.

But did he really? I've only seen a transcript of Max Gawn's comments and it seemed like a flippant, throw-away line designed to deflect more than anything else. Has it been stated by anyone else that he genuinely kicked 6 in a quarter? And even if he did, so what? He could have been playing on no-one or being deliberately the only forward that the ball was being delivered to.

I’d assume some time after the diagnosis.

That is a bit of an idiotic post.

In a video just released with Tom McDonald he slipped at one stage that Brown possibly out for a month

he said IF ben brown is injured for the next month or so, it will change where he's training as a wing or as a forward

For those interested, in the Talking Points video, Tom McDonald referred to BB as 'potentially out for a month or so'.

Haha...bit late to the party.

Gawn was just interviewed on 3AW and he didn’t think the Brown injury was anything serious.

Also said Viney should play one of the pre season games.

I wouldn’t get too excited as Gawn strikes as me as a half glass full guy.

I am going to the Doctors today wearing a MFC jumper , I should get 4  weeks off from work . Some say I should get tested.

For all of us "old Dees". The weed will take over now, just you (don't)  mark my word.....

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
