Deserved a contract extension based on his last 2 games of the year but must be well done the pecking order of a game next year.

If M Brown's getting a game next year, it probably means that T Mac's continuing to be a disaster, Weideman hasn't come on as yet or Ben Brown's injured.

I like this call, especially in light of the decision to get rid of Omac, not chase Phillips harder, and trade Preuss. I agree that he probably won't play many games but if any of our key position players go down he's the kind of backup you want on your list.

I'm happy for him to be our Cam Pedersen, who pops in for a 2 goal cameo at some point and apply pressure on the senior team.

Mitch would be a good insurance for our key forwards  196cm tall and can play in a number of position. He is a very good mark. Will be 31 next season however IMO will hold his own.

Played 5 games in 2020 and his 2 games late in the season were excellent where he took 13 marks in his last game which probably tipped him in favour of another year.

If given the opportunity he will  present himself well. 

Good.  I like the cut of his jib.

Handy to have as a depth player.  As we saw with those last two games, he still has the capability to hold a spot if required and hit the scoreboard as well.

We could do far worse than him.

Would have preferred them to take a chance on another mature recruit for another position. (goal scoring crumber or even a ruckman comes to mind)

For the reasons given by BBP it doesn't seem a smart move

 

Tom Mc - potential cover at back
Mitch Brown - potential cover at forward.

If there are no injuries to Gawn or a key position player, Mitch probably won't get a go in 2021.

But with question marks over Smith/Petty/Tmac it's not the worst move in my opinion.

Happy with this - there are significant questions around all of our proposed tall forward options, and depth in these positions is essential.

Good move.  Mitch is a good average player, is under no illusion where he sits, will have a crack when he gets his chance, and is cheap depth.

I won't be slitting my wrists if he plays a handful of games this year as back up.  If he's our main target at times, then that's a different story.

Very happy with this move and a great example of not having to pay big bucks to get and keep a competent AFL player who just might come in very handy. His has know attributes rather than the hoping and praying with some others we have previously kept on the list.

He was picked twice and dropped twice before he was picked a 3rd time and the season finished  before he had time to be dropped again.

He's soft. He doesn't do the number 1 non negotiable for any key forward which is to bring the ball to ground. He doesn't defend either. He will lead up and take nothing marks on the wing but that's not a key forwards job and it means he's not where we need a big man which is competing for long kicks.

Ben Brown, Weid, Jackson and even Petty should all be ahead of him. Which means he's 5th in line, a position we could easily cover with Tom McDonald if things get that desperate, which is very unlikely.

We'll get to the end of the season and he'll retire after maybe 2-5 meaningless games if we have a terrible run with injury and everyone will wonder why we don't have the right depth of outside runners or skilled flanker types. And this is why. We're just burning through list spots on nothing footballers rather than churning the list looking for that diamond in the rough.

Agree. He deserved his spot in the last 5 rounds ahead of Tmcd on form. Mitch got better and got 2 Brownlow votes in round 18. He was only slightly behind Trac for best on ground imv. 
He is very handy as a key position forward and keeps pressure on.   

He's definitely a journeyman depth/role player. Happy with keeping him on the list, he's shown he can come in and play solid footy, will probably be even better for having the 2nd tier competition running next year.

Wasn’t overly excited by his addition to the list last year until he put in a very, very good final game against Essendon.  Some of his efforts to make contests were inspirational.

 

He’s done well to receive another contract and should be happy with himself. Hard work pays off.

He displayed courage and footy smarts knowing where to go to provide options! We need Smart players and I believe he might be more than a bits part player in 2021

T.Mac was our Cam Pederson before Cam Pederson was even on our list. 

A little bit surprised since TMac ended up staying on. But if they wanted another key position player for depth, and it was between OMac and Brown, we made the right choice.

An apt renewal of contract. Given his lack of opportunity with some at times bizarre preferences around forward selection decisions last season. A merry-go-round of one, two and three talls? with varying degrees of effectiveness v ineffectiveness. Some overly persisted with, others summarily dropped and back to just scratch matches after just one go around in AFL side. Thought his Brown low vote winning effort against the Dons was one of the better performances by a Dee tall forward for the 2020 season. A team orientated smart decision maker with clean skills and mobility plus courage. A keeper. Go the mo!

Couldn't disagree more. You obviously don't like Mitch. Must have missed watching his last two games of the season. A big reason why we beat GWS and Brownlow votes v Essendon. Oh well everyone to their own thoughts and beliefs. You are in a big minority though.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I agree with much of this. I think Mitch Brown has played a role when required but with Ben Brown coming in and TMac staying, I expected him to be an immediate delist. That he isn’t means that we have one less place for a runner which is even more significant in a year of declining list spots.
 

Personally, I find the fact that we couldn’t find a spot for Tom Phillips but are holding onto this type of player totally baffling.
